What do you have with your crumble?

Yes, a pressing topic for a Monday.

I fee like it needs to be something cold to counteract that lava like temps of a crumble but I hear that some people favour hot custard. Are you an asbestos-mouthed hot custard consumer?

I like yogurt with mine, cool and tangy.

Itsamumslife2024 · 02/12/2024 12:46

Some cold vanilla custard might give a nice contrast but I tend to do a combo of cream and vanilla ice cream.

Precipice · 02/12/2024 12:48

Why no 'nothing' option?

granhands1 · 02/12/2024 12:52

Vanilla ice cream

SantaToSSD · 02/12/2024 12:52

OMG you are like my son. We had this very discussion last week when I made apple crumble. I also made hot custard but he opted for cream, which surprised me as I know he likes custard. Turns out, after nearly 30 years of eating custard with crumble, he has decided the hot crumble needs to be counteracted by something cold! I am shocked! For me, the double whammy of heat is what it is all about.

Lottapianos · 02/12/2024 12:52

Hot crumble, cold custard

I sometimes do a strawberry and peach crumble in early summer, and it would be yogurt or whipped cream with that

ManchesterRoad · 02/12/2024 12:53

Clotted cream for me.

Because you can't have nothing with it.

You just have it in its own. :p

LittleRedRidingHoody · 02/12/2024 12:53

Hot crumble, hot custard, and ice cream for good measure 😂 The only way for me!

Get weird looks in restaurants when I order though...

FannyCradocksDoughnut · 02/12/2024 12:54

Evaporated milk 😋

pimplin · 02/12/2024 12:54

I have custard. Not hot, just nicely warmed. I want to be able to taste the crumble, not burn my mouth.

WillowTit · 02/12/2024 12:54

yoghurt or cream

IAm16StoneHalloween2024 · 02/12/2024 12:55

Custard is the best, or ice cream.

I also quite like an occasional thorough drenching in evaporated milk.

sprigatito · 02/12/2024 12:56

Piping hot custard. Anything else is a disappointment.

Chocolaterocketcake · 02/12/2024 12:57

First serving with hot custard straight after dinner, and then a second serving with vanilla ice cream later in the evening once children are in bed.

I refuse to believe that walking among us are people who would eat crumble on its own.

Yoghurt and evaporated milk taking me by surprise

COLD custard, much to the absolute disgust of DP (hot custard, yet cold cream?)

neverthmore · 02/12/2024 13:01

I sure am.

I've genuinely never considered that crumble could be eaten with anything else. Mind blown.

Rainbow321 · 02/12/2024 13:03

@LittleRedRidingHoody

Went and had a meal with another couple in their village pub , when it came to desserts the make said to the waitress ' his usual ' and out came a crumble with all 3 !
Ice cream , warm custard in a small jug and cream .
On went the lot.

Reverence · 02/12/2024 13:06

More crumble

Lemonyfuckit · 02/12/2024 13:15

I like cold custard - ie the good stuff from Waitrose/M&S made with real cream and vanilla. I thought I was unusual in preferring it cold rather than heated though but I like the contrast with the hot crumble.

dollybird · 02/12/2024 13:20

Many years ago when DH and I were first dating he went up to the bar to order dessert in a pub. I'd asked for crumble with custard. They didn't have any crumble left, so he ordered me cheesecake.. with custard! We always laugh when we remember that 😆

ginasevern · 02/12/2024 13:35

Isigny sur Mer creme fraiche for me. Tangy but luxuriant like clotted cream.
