What do you have with your crumble?

Yes, a pressing topic for a Monday.

I fee like it needs to be something cold to counteract that lava like temps of a crumble but I hear that some people favour hot custard. Are you an asbestos-mouthed hot custard consumer?

I always like ice cream with a warm dessert. I like the mix of hot and cold.

I hate custard. Happy with any type of cream or vanilla ice cream or plain.

MrsSethGecko · 02/12/2024 14:07

Ice cream for preference, but usually warm custard.
Then the leftovers the next day with cold thick wobbly custard.
I'll have evaporated milk occasionally.

Hot custard or cold ice cream, I like the hot/cold contrast but can't bear cold custard.

I like cold custard - ie the good stuff from Waitrose/M&S made with real cream and vanilla. I thought I was unusual in preferring it cold rather than heated though but I like the contrast with the hot crumble.

Yep this is what I like too. If I don’t have that I’m an ice cream and cream person.

Cold custard

Ah, well, there's a trick to it, you see. What you do is take the crumble out of the oven a good 10 minutes before serving it. That puts paid to its molten lava qualities, and you can then happily serve it with hot custard.

Custard

@LittleRedRidingHoody

Went and had a meal with another couple in their village pub , when it came to desserts the make said to the waitress ' his usual ' and out came a crumble with all 3 !
Ice cream , warm custard in a small jug and cream .
On went the lot.

I don't think I'd have the nerve to order it, but that sounds lush 😂😍

FrangipaniBlue · 02/12/2024 17:31

Warm custard.

Anything else is the wrong answer.

pastapestoparmesan · 02/12/2024 17:47

I prefer all hot puddings cold. So I’d have cold crumble with cold cream.

Hot crumble, cold custard

I sometimes do a strawberry and peach crumble in early summer, and it would be yogurt or whipped cream with that

Hot crumble, cold custard is the correct answer, and that is a scientific fact.

DarkDarkNight · 02/12/2024 18:04

I like custard or pouring cream. Never ice cream, I can’t take the contrast in temperatures.

Mikki77 · 02/12/2024 18:07

Hot crumble with lashings of warm custard

SybilTheSpy · 02/12/2024 18:50

my conclusion is that if you're serving crumble to guests you'd better have an array of things for them to choose from. hot custard seems to be the favourite though.

no not custard, too sweet, it needs cream/yoghurt to counteract the sweetness
