Do cash machines ever close. Would it be odd if I went to scotmid just now and withdrew some money or would it look suspicious

Suspicious? Maybe leave the balaclava at home.

PhilosophicalCheeseSandwich · 30/11/2024 20:53

I don't know what Scotmid is. ATMs don't close. Why would withdrawing cash look suspicious?

Letmegohome · 30/11/2024 20:56

ATM's can run out of cash but they don't close just Googled scotmid it's like a co-op is the cash machine inside the shop?

Eh? So much is cashless these days, but surely many of us have been to a cafe machine on a night out, etc.

Sasannach · 30/11/2024 20:59

What?

WhimsicalGubbins76 · 30/11/2024 21:00

Are you high?
drunk?

wtf is Scotmid 🤷🏻‍♀️

niadainud · 30/11/2024 21:00

Definitely don't use a Scotmid cash machine after 8pm or a SWAT team will turn up at your front door within ten minutes, closely followed by MI5.

It's like the Co-op, in Scotland.

dementedpixie · 30/11/2024 21:03

Do they charge you to withdraw from them (not all give free withdrawals)?

P.s. for PPs, Scotmid is like a small supermarket

Sasannach · 30/11/2024 21:03

I mean, I know what Scotmid is, but what is this question all about?

If you're going Scotmid can you get me a bag of those onion ring crisps. Ta.

No I just need to withdraw some cash to give someone tomorrow morning early. I was supposed to go today but I forgot until just now

It used to be common to wait till just after midnight to take out your wages/dole money and go buy fag's from the petrol station

dementedpixie · 30/11/2024 21:15

Is it inside the shop?
Can you buy something small/cheap so you feel less conspicuous?

MrsMoastyToasty · 30/11/2024 21:18

No but they do run out of money. I don't know if it still happens but they used to get refilled over Christmas and Easter by bank staff. (I was one of those staff).

eRobin · 30/11/2024 21:08

Really

Well obviously not. But you know the saying: ask a stupid question...

Needmorelego · 30/11/2024 21:24

That's kind of the point of cash machines.
24/7 access to your bank account.

Needmorelego · 30/11/2024 21:26

To be honest at this time of day on a Saturday the people running the shop probably won't even notice you using the machine. Saturday night there might even be a queue.
(unless you live in a teeny tiny village)

FrangipaniBlue · 30/11/2024 21:27

You know you're on Mumsnet not Facebook, right?

Bongosbanjo · 30/11/2024 21:55

You need a permission slip signed by the chief constable to use an atm after 5 pm so phone your local police station to see if they're available to pop round to yours with one

VegTrug · 30/11/2024 23:02

I often wonder how many people today, survive day to day Confused

DreamW3aver · 30/11/2024 23:11

Are cash machines in Scotland not the same as English ones? South of the border we take money out willy nilly at all and any times of day. Is it shameful to need cash up there?
