Duinrell and Efteling in The Neatherlands in May.

It was supposed to be Disneyland Paris but we changed it when we learnt that Big Thunder Mountain is closed for a 6 month refurb.

It will be my children's first time on a plane and we are excited.

Efteling is a million times better than Disneyland Paris IMO. Enjoy

I've heard many people say this. It was half the price too!

Would love California tips from anyone who has been!

Join the FB group "California Dreamers and West Coast Wanderers". Recommended to me on here when I was plannign our first trip. We've been a couple of times now. It was invaluable.

center parcs. Thats the only holiday.

i dont do going abroad. Hate the heat, sand and lying around

You probably mean you don't do package holidays to the med? You do realise there are LOTS of different places that are "abroad"? Put your own holiday together, it's much more interesting than lying on a sunlounger for 2 weeks sweating.

CurlyhairedAssassin · 01/12/2024 18:24

A week's med cruise with DH for our silver wedding annivesary at Whit. (First full holiday just with him for 21 years,- can't wait!)

A few nights in Prague with mum and sister in August.

We visit young adult kids at their uni cities through the year and that can get pricey so that's probably all we'll do.

I'd love to go back to the US and do a Grand Circle road trip but as I work in a school it's going to have to wait till I've retired because August school holidays is the wrong time of year really. I just hope we don't die early before we've got the chance to go in May!

Indeed. There is a wonderful world to explore. Only a fraction of it is hot and sandy

Lallydallydune · 01/12/2024 18:44

Nowhere booked yet but I would like to go to the Faroe islands or Iceland next year

BloodyWolves · 01/12/2024 18:47

Two weeks in Crete at the beginning of May. I’m nervous… I stupidly didn’t check the weather before booking and have had a few people tell me it might not be as hot as I was hoping. Severely disabled daughter who loves the pool will not be happy if it’s too cold to swim.

I may book somewhere like Bluestones for next Christmas. I’ve done Disneyland Paris the last two years. First year was great in a stressful way, this year dd found it far too much and couldn’t cope. She wails every time someone says the word ‘Disneyland’! I’ll take the hint she’s not keen to go again!

Lallydallydune · 01/12/2024 18:47

I went on a couple of "holidays" this year and I felt more stressed after I went.

As I hate going through airports, and I hate travelling on a tiny seat on a cramped airplane, and I hate how crap a lot of hotels are abroad, is it really a holiday, if I hate a lot of it?

No it's just stress.

I think I've realised that a good holiday for me

: is staying at home and relaxing in my own house.

GameOfJones · 01/12/2024 18:52

We have a week in a cottage in Anglesey booked for the Easter holidays for a big family birthday.

And we're going to Eurocamp in Germany in August. We always try to have holidays booked over a year in advance as I like having things in the diary to look forward to!

DitzyDoes · 01/12/2024 18:53

Spain in February
Turkey in March
Albania in June
Not booked yet but the plan is Argentina and Belize in November. I only like to do one long-haul flight a year as I find them so tiring and stressful!

These threads do make me very envious. We are lucky to be able to afford to go abroad but it’s a real stretch these days despite us having a high family income.

Some of you mnetters must have significant incomes (though if you’ve not got school aged kids it is a lot easier, granted)

Where I live it’s very normal not to go abroad at all, lots of people rely on caravan holidaying in the uk, and there’s nothing wrong with that

Agree, we bought a micro caravan a few years ago and have had 3 spring/summer seasons with it travelling in the UK. It's great fun and a big change from the numerous long and short trips we used to do abroad. We are enjoying the outdoors, the freedom and the relatively low cost. Even though we could afford to go abroad, we have decided we'd rather save and build up our pensions now we have reached our mid 50s.

eakjoy · 01/12/2024 18:56

@BloodyWolves have you checked if the pools are heated? They weren't when we went to Kos and they were freezing even though the weather was lovely (end of May) you might be able to change your holiday, but it'll likely be more expensive, they often sell Greece cheaply April-May due to weather, though you may get lucky.

Whattheduck · 01/12/2024 19:16

Touring around Ireland (will visit family whilst we are there ) in April
Looking at going to Croatia in August
Maybe New York just after Christmas 2025 for DD’s 21st (January) although that might change to elsewhere

Lallydallydune · 01/12/2024 19:16

The airports are so bad these days, I think I'd rather stay at home.

Last time I flew, we were at the last stage where you show your boarding card for the final time.

I went through that final check in desk, then they left hundreds of us standing on a very narrow and dark stairs for another 40 minutes. It's just awful.

Elphamouche · 01/12/2024 19:23

We haven’t got anything booked yet, but I’ll be booking our breaks next month. Time to have a year celebrating after a lot of shit.

Vegas
Florida
Centre Parcs
We will do another UK weekend as well.

Issorryreallythehardestword · 01/12/2024 19:43

Ten days in Pompeii and Sicily in the summer with my partner, a week in Germany with my best friend wine tasting/spa/rhine valley walks, and a week on my own in northern Spain cycling the Camino Ingles. A good balance i think!

ImageMirror · 01/12/2024 19:47

I’m taking DS to New York next month with my mum then in Feb I’m off to Las Vegas with DP for his birthday.

Hoping to take DS to Centerparcs in May half term and big family holiday in August for my mums 60th. I’m then planning a solo trip in October but I’m not sure where to though.

I know I lucky I am, a 6 years ago I was literally on benefits but went back to uni and have managed to get a good job as a nurse, i book holidays as far in advance as possible and do a LOT of overtime to pay them off monthly

whiteroseredrose · 01/12/2024 19:48

Finally after over a year of planning I have booked Vietnam in March. Just DH and I for this. DD will be working for her finals so she and DS aren't coming.

I am 60 in August so have booked a couple of weeks off. I want to celebrate as a family but DS is applying for secondments to the US which would kibosh that. Maybe New York but it wouldn't be my first choice.

We're supposed to have a couple of long weekends away with friends. One to Belfast and Giant's Causeway and one to Copenhagen. Not sure if they will happen.

Gutted because I had been planning to go to Jordan in November. Obviously on hold as insurance would be cancelled if the Foreign Office said not to go.

Ooh where does the camino ingles go through?

Lallydallydune · 01/12/2024 20:06

I've done the camino Portuguese way

Ooh where does the camino ingles go through?

It runs from either Ferrol or A Coruna in Galicia, for either 75 or 115 km. Looks beautiful, i think I'll do the longer one.

Ratfinkstinkypink · 01/12/2024 20:25

I am going up to Fylde for a week, staying in an adapted cottage with a hydrotherapy pool and sensory room on site. I am going to book the pool out for a couple of sessions while we're there. It's the furthest I have travelled with my little one who is a fulltime wheelchair user, registered blind and has profound disabilities. I am nervous about the drive as we haven't done much more than a two hour trip before so I need to plan places where we can stop and I can get him out of his chair for a change of position and a stretch, he is unable to shift his weight when sitting so needs regular changes of position else he's at risk of pressure sores.

Inspirationfailure · 02/12/2024 15:40

@Issorryreallythehardestword would you mind sharing a bit more detail on your Germany trip? That sounds right up my street. I’d also love to do one of the Caminos (walking not cycling), but that will realistically have to wait until DC move out….

We are travelling by train to Rüdesheim am Rhine via Köln for wine tasting (check out RheinWeinWelt!) then moving on to Wiesbaden for day spas. The area is also beautiful, lots of Schlosses and walks. We will fly home from Frankfurt I hope you enjoy it of you go!
