We have booked Chatsworth caravan site for a few days next November for the Christmas market and house decorations, had to book really early as it fills really quickly. Also a week in the Cotswolds in March so far

Finland in Feb
Easter dh taking one DC to Germany for 3 days and I'm taking another to France for 3 days. Each before their oral exams for the language.
Nothing booked yet for summer. I really, really want to go to Iceland and do lots of hiking but realistically we probably need something a heck of a lot cheaper.

When we went we booked apartments and self catered. I then packed quite a bit of food in our case. Every day I bought sandwich stuff and made a picnic. We ate out twice, but only to try a local dish or two. I was a good way to control the costs. We did rebook activities and hire a car but that was quantified beforehand. It was a great holiday.

These threads do make me very envious. We are lucky to be able to afford to go abroad but it’s a real stretch these days despite us having a high family income.

Some of you mnetters must have significant incomes (though if you’ve not got school aged kids it is a lot easier, granted)

Where I live it’s very normal not to go abroad at all, lots of people rely on caravan holidaying in the uk, and there’s nothing wrong with that

center parcs. Thats the only holiday.

i dont do going abroad. Hate the heat, sand and lying around

. I can’t go in the sun, hence why going to the Arctic. No heat, no sand, no lying around.

Mummadeze · 01/12/2024 09:03

Yes we can only afford what we can as we don't have kids yet but earn £60k between us, definitely trying to make the most of doing lots of travel before we decide to have kids in the next 5 years or so!

There's a lot more to 'abroad' than heat, sand and lying around!

ByQuaintAzureWasp · 01/12/2024 10:17

January and February in Canary Islands
June in France and Italy
Possibly September ish for a couple of months in Australia

GettingStuffed · 01/12/2024 10:19

Rome early February for rugby. It's DH's 70th this year we're going to go somewhere for it but haven't decided where

BiddyPop · 01/12/2024 10:21

Nothing booked yet. Talking about a road trip around parts of Europe. Or sailing in Greece.

TheChosenTwo · 01/12/2024 10:22

Got a long weekend in Italy booked and then a week in Spain in May half term. That’s as far as we’ve got so far. Will book a couple of weeks somewhere in the summer with the 5 of us, not sure at the moment who will actually make it to Spain as one of the dc doesn’t get much leave, we’ve booked her flights but they weren’t too expensive if she can’t make it and we lose the money.

OrangeBlossom28 · 01/12/2024 11:27

Two weeks in the South of France end of July with DH and a week in Palma with DD1 at the end of August. We're both teachers so it's a nice way to end the summer holidays.

Itsmeamandaberry · 01/12/2024 13:00

Vegas in April so excited for that. Waiting on DH holiday rota coming out so don't know dates but maybe 10 days in turkey, a city break and a solo to London to see devil wears prada and clueless.

That sounds bliss! Before the kids i spent 6 weeks in canada, in January. Best thing ever.

tackychristmas · 01/12/2024 14:16

We’re expecting Dc2 in April so we won’t be going abroad this year, but we’re looking at booking a Campervan break in July/August for a long weekend.

MissAmbrosia · 01/12/2024 14:36

Weekend trips planned to Malaga and Matera with DH. Just me to Warsaw to visit friends and will squeeze in a day in our office there. Still need to organise another one with my friends - we were talking last night about Budapest. 2 weeks in Calabria - Pizzo and Tropea in May/June. We normally do another 10 days / 2 weeks end of September, but dd is hoping to do a Masters abroad and is currently weighing up her options. So maybe we will wait and see where she ends up and plan something around that - carrying her stuff over and getting her settled in etc. One scholarship she is applying for has Glasgow the first semester. Other options in Poland or Italy.

BG2015 · 01/12/2024 14:37

Going to Morocco on 26th Dec to 5th January
Egypt over Easter
Italy in July
Krakow In October

Lots of weekends booked in too. Live for holidays and time away.

EarlofShrewsbury · 01/12/2024 14:49

Duinrell and Efteling in The Neatherlands in May.

It was supposed to be Disneyland Paris but we changed it when we learnt that Big Thunder Mountain is closed for a 6 month refurb.

It will be my children's first time on a plane and we are excited.

I can't do sun/heat/sand either.

Last year we did a cruise to Norway. Best holiday ever.

DingDongAlong · 01/12/2024 15:31

Not yet booked but hoping to go to DisneyLand Paris after my daughter finishes her GCSEs. Just for a long weekend.

No other plans, saving for another Europe trip in 2027.
