Neighbours obstructing my driveway: to box them in?

PoliticalPossum · 30/11/2024 11:24

Neighbours have form for this. Cul-de-sac that leads into a 40mph main road - so people don’t want to park on main road (even though they absolutely can and many do). Each driveway has space for one car, except mine as we have space for two cars after we extended driveway (removing entire front garden) and dropped curb. All legal.

Came back from my morning dog walk to find neighbour A (who I dislike on principle as they often have crap log cutting equipment for their wood burner or skips on their driveway and so end up causing chaos by obstructing driveways) have fully obstructed one side of my driveway (having parked bumper to bonnet - literally touching - other neighbour B who I really like car). DH parked on driveway. I’ve just parked across my driveway bumper to bonnet with neighbours A, who watched me do it.

They’ll need to go out soon, I know from experience (they always go out about midday on a Saturday). I know Neighbour B is out all day so it’ll be me who needs to move. Needless to say I won’t be.

I’m so damn sick of them. No one else on the road (15 houses!!!) does this. Just them. Every bloody day.

Where would B park if she/he wasn't outside of your house? I think A thinks by parking so close to car B he is leaving you enough room to get both cars on your drive. Personally I think you're all twats. If B is out all day, why does B not park his/her second car on their own drive then park outside your house when A and family go out.

HollyKnight · 30/11/2024 16:09

Imagine being annoyed about someone doing work/clearing out their house. I hope A sticks the skip on the road outside his house instead. Good luck to B trying to get parked on the street then.

It sounds like none of the neighbours like the skip and it all stems from that. Lowering the tone and all that.
Despite the fact everyone, except for skip owner, has bought property with two cars but only one off street parking spot on a narrow road.
They all need to sort the parking of their two cars out imo.

Enoughofthisnow · 30/11/2024 16:13

Could C park the other side of their drive and A & B park outside their own houses? Though innocent, C is possibly causing everyone else to have to park on your side of the road?

That's the vibe I get. They're a bunch of snooty cows judging the family for not having a naice garden. I don't know where else they think a skip should go. All the people with two cars and one drive are causing just as much inconvenience, but it makes them feel better to blame the trampy family.

Yes I thought that too. C is forcing everyone to park further down. But I wonder if they can’t park on the other side as it’s by a corner? Would be a good solution though. I’m too invested in this. It’s like a game of jenga!

Agree
Although I’m scared to on MN we’ll be blasted!

Pipsquiggle · 30/11/2024 16:21

Well done OP. I also want to try chuchvara.
Have you planned what you are going to say next?

Not my best work…but wanted to get it up before they appear and ask me to move.

Oooh fine work!
Yes block at will for a very, very long time.

This. There is a road near mine with all the houses in a type of long terrace situation with small front gardens. But just about everyone has removed their front fence or wall and made dropped kerbs. What it means is that there is literally nowhere for ANYONE else to park, as even parking on the road, a public highway, it means they are blocking someone's driveway. It's very unfair as it means the residents of the house can still park on the road in front of their own house as well as their driveway (or even instead of!) if they want to, or let their visitors do it, but no other members of the public can. It's very difficult if more than one car wants to visit one of those houses as there literally is nowhere to park without walking 15 minutes away. Very hard on elderly people or those with a physical disability or other medical issue, or young children.

But if they or their visitors didn't park in their gardens, they'd be parking on the road!

Yes true
However cars can come or go and no one has any more right over a spot than another.
Endless lines of drop kerbs mean the public highway has basically been taken over by private parking.
so I agree with @CurlyhairedAssassin

Birdscratch · 30/11/2024 16:36

Only here for the recipe.

halloumidippers · 30/11/2024 16:44

Here for the recipe and the drama in equal amounts. Is your car still there OP?

DreamTheMoors · 30/11/2024 16:50

Instead of all these elaborate plans like drinking or going on a walk or going to town, couldn’t you just tell the guy that you lost your keys?
Yeah I parked my car then 30 seconds later I lost my keys never to see them again.
Big mystery. Gigantic.

Jostuki · 30/11/2024 17:04

Don't answer the door if they knock and make loud sex noises in the hallway.

TheDowagerCountessofPembroke · 30/11/2024 17:05

I don’t understand why B is parked there rather than over their own drive.

Americano75 · 30/11/2024 17:07

Good for you, I'm really impressed!

PoliticalPossum · 30/11/2024 17:18

To answer a few questions:

A will park as close as humanly possible to his own drive, regardless of how ignorant his parking is. This includes, obstructing someones drive or at the very edge of the road where the car bumper is practically up against the main road (thereby making it dangerous for people trying to pull in/out of the road given how narrow it is).

A did use to have two cars, he sold them both and got the twatmobile he currently has.

I don't care about A's skip. But I don't understand why the skip or all the other crap he has on his drive can't be on his front garden - it does not need to be on his driveway, thereby making him park on the road. I don't like the guy simply because he's a twat who routinely obstructs people's driveways and parks dangerous (overhanging the main road). Nothing to do with his garden or driveway being 'cluttered or dirty' (arguably his plot is the cleanest on the street tbh) it's to do with him being an ignorant twatwomble. Tbh my property is probably the scruffiest on the road.

On C - there are more houses than I have drawn (another 11!) and more cars on the road. It really is like jenga. It was far worse before we got our driveway done as I have a V90 (which is possibly the longest car known to man and literally could not fit in the gap between drives without overhanging someone, and was part of the reason we ended up getting out driveway extended).

On my dinner... https://culinarycreationss.com/posts/chuchvara-recipe-mini-meat-dumplings-with-yogurt-sour-cream - this is the recipe I use for the 'dumplings'. You can use beef mince, but honestly lamb is much fattier and more satisfying (although it is more expensive). I also add fresh parsley and sometimes (when the kids aren't having any) hot paprika as it can be a bit bland...although without paprika is the more authentic taste. People also add potatoes.

I tend to serve with either Plov (because why not have lamb dumplings on lamb rice?!) or with some sort of soup/stew (I use this soup recipe: https://folkways.today/chuchvara-dumping-central-asia/ but not their dumpling recipe as I find it a tad tasteless).

Chuchvara can be eaten without the soup/stew, but it's just a bit sad without it (sort of like a creme brûlée without the crispy shell).

It's really similar to Manty (available in most Afghani or Central Asian restaurants) but apparently 'Manty is the Chicken Tikka Massala equivalent of Chuchvara' - aka not authentic Uzbek (according to DH). But there are more Manty recipes out there (if you are curious and wish to sample the delights of Turkish/Central Asian cuisine!

I thought it was illegal to park over a driveway if you had a dropped kerb, if that's right then I'm on your side Op

FastnetLundyRockall · 30/11/2024 17:37

Came for the parking, stayed for the chuchvara recipe 😊

Exactly what I was about to say! 😆 any chance of a photo of the finished dish when done OP pretty please? Sounds delish I might have to give it a go!

IVbumble · 30/11/2024 17:41

Never mind the nice cat - anyone else sitting waiting patiently & trying to work out the breed of the dog from the diagram?

Bassett OP? On account of the flapping ears?

duckduckgooseduckagain · 30/11/2024 18:32

@IVbumble Nah, That's gotta be a Cockerpoo going by the tail

EdgeofSeventy · 30/11/2024 18:54

Can you take a picture of his shit parking and post it on 'Parked like a Prick' or whatever the site is called? Get someone to tag him in it?

Pudmyboy · 30/11/2024 19:03

Next time he parks near the junction perhaps remind him it's illegal:
