They've gone and bloody discontinued it! 4 weeks from the big day and they've stopped bloody making it.

Gutted.

I've tried EVERY cranberry sauce on the market - EVERY ONE - and they're tasteless in comparison.

I'm bloody raging.

RAGING.

I haven't tried Tescos but Sainsbury's is very very good

Make your own! It is so easy.

At the most basic, it is putting fresh cranberries in a pan with a little water and a decent amount of sugar, and letting it boil for about 10 minutes. I love when the cranberries pop. The is so much natural pectin in cranberries that you get an instant jelly as soon as it cools down.

I am a fan of making your life easy but yes, easiest festive thing to home make!

I'd imagine you are apoplectic after reading these replies OP.

I feel for you. 'tis dark times indeed.

yohohoCrimbo · 28/11/2024 23:46

Yep. Proper rage.
Sampling jars from all over was costly and bloody time consuming. There's only so much cranberry one can ingest.

You can stuff your Sainsbury's offering - yuck.
Marks and Sparks - no thanks.
Asda - don't make me laugh.
Co-op - non event
Ocean Spray - tastes like soap
Waitrose - keep it.

The ONE brand Iikds

Pressed send too soon in my frothy rage.

The ONE brand I loved and they go and pull it from production.

Then, THEN, they go and add some port to the mix and now it tastes bloody hideous.

Tesco. Not impressed.

I buy a year’s supply of fresh cranberries at Xmas and freeze them, so I can make “fresh” cranberry sauce every time, I do roast chicken or turkey, because DC love it! It tastes way better than any bought one imo and only takes about 2 minutes of work and 10 minutes to cook!

ISeriouslyDoubtIt · 28/11/2024 23:55

Honestly, just make your own.Takes a few minutes and you can freeze it in advance.

Thoughts and prayers op. Thoughts and prayers.

I used to love cranberry sauce until I watched a Ticktock. Omg the spiders Confused put me off for life.

Hope my happy little story has now put you off cranberry sauce op and then all your troubles will be over Grin

DiscoBeat · 29/11/2024 01:24

Make it! It's so much nicer and so simple!

DiscoBeat · 29/11/2024 01:25

NB if you add actual proper port it's lovely.

Northumberlandlass · 29/11/2024 03:50

It’s so easy to make & can be done a few days in advance. I make Nigella’s

Spiders? So all these Christmases I've been eating cranberries that have been darked on by spiders rubbing their willies on them?? NOOOOOO!!!! 😫😫😫😫😫😫😫😫

Aroastdinnerisnotahumanright · 29/11/2024 05:23

The lidl finest one is really bad, if it saves you a few quid.

I love cranberry sauce so much, sad I never tried tescos. If you can find Ocean Spray brand it's very good.

DullTopic · 29/11/2024 08:56

I think the Ocean spray one is a bit rubbish but sometimes outside of Xmas it's all you can get.

BuzzieLittleBee · 29/11/2024 09:04

Another vote for homemade. No more than 10 mins of your time needed and you can flavour it however you like (spices/orange/port...) Of all the special Christmas things, this is by far the easiest to make.

Grannyinnwaiting · 29/11/2024 09:49

I make my own it's lovely - heat slowly in red wine and add brown sugar and cinnamon, cloves too if you fancy to taste - easy peasy and so much nicer

ProssecoSparkle · 29/11/2024 10:16

@2SliceHilly unfortunately so. First they come for our sheets and then our cranberries 🕷😫

yohohoCrimbo · 05/12/2024 23:24

Still grieving my Tesco Finest Cranberry and you lot hijack my thread with talk of spiders and their genitals?

It's only nice if that's what you like. Cinnamon and cloves do not feature in my cranberry sauce!

My cranberry sauce is the big standard Tesco one. It's simple, has whole berries in it, and is much better than the branded ones (imo). I make lots of things from scratch, but Tesco bog standard is our traditional cranberry sauce.
