Am I the only one who spends a ridiculous amount of time on Rightmove even though I'm not looking to move

I seem to spend so much time looking at Rightmove even though I'm happy where I am. Today's searches have been: cottages in Frome, Bloomsbury apartment, Primrose Hill houses and houses in Boscastle. A very eclectic mix both location and budget wise.

Does anyone else find themselves doing this?

Yes always! I also like to pretend I've won the lottery and imagine what I'd buy!

ssd · 28/11/2024 17:07

God i do both of these. I also like looking at penthouses in London/new york worth millions...

Oh well

LadyWiddiothethird · 28/11/2024 17:07

Yes,I do it all the time.Today has been,Pimlico,Sussex and North Cornwall!

RosieFlamingo · 28/11/2024 17:08

I love fantasy shopping on rightmove! I always go from highest price to lowest price!

TheDowagerCountessofPembroke · 28/11/2024 17:09

All the time. Especially tiny but beautiful London studio flats.

MrsSethGecko · 28/11/2024 17:10

Oh I do. I love it. I look up huge country estates.

This!

I have my beautiful farmhouse in the Home Counties, flat in Greenwich (for after all the shows I'd go to at the O2!), apartment in Edinburgh and cottage by the coast, all saved and ready to proceed when I win big 😂

Yes I do and love to criticise all the things I would change about this completely non-existent home that I'm never going to afford/own. "Oh I wouldn't put that chandelier there and the swimming pool is the wrong shape."

MrtwiceKnightly · 28/11/2024 17:11

We call doing this property porn 🤣

I also do this! Am having real issues loving the flooring in the 4th guest bedroom, may need to renovate...

StormingNorman · 28/11/2024 17:13

Mine are €30 million villas in Ibiza, Mayfair townhouses, ski chalets in France and Switzerland and New York penthouses 😂😂😂

Hatty65 · 28/11/2024 17:13

Frequently. I dream of living on a remote Scottish island - and then reject houses on ridiculous grounds.

I once dismissed a house on Rum (population 40) because I could see the neighbour's house and it felt 'too close'.

ScarlettSunset · 28/11/2024 17:14

I do it too.

I did once look up flats in the area I lived in as a student and was shocked to see how expensive they were now (poky little hovels that haven't really changed since me and my friends lived there either).

But usually I like to look up what about 2 million quid would get me in various parts of the country.

gardenisblooming · 28/11/2024 17:14

I do this all the time, love looking at the interiors. I’ve never thought to do it in Manhattan. That is a game changer 😜

fussychica · 28/11/2024 17:14

I do but usually a bit more boring. Think of a place we might like and look what, if anything, is in our budget. We're not seriously looking to move as we like where we live but definitely wouldn't mind a less rainy spot nearer the coast or closer to DS.

h7htj392 · 28/11/2024 17:15

Oh yes, I do this. Not so much with mansions I know I'll never be able to afford, but usually with houses just a bit out of the realms of affordability (for me).

KnopkaPixie · 28/11/2024 17:15

I play tropical island fantasy Robinson Crusoe lifestyle property hunt. Normally when the neighbours are kicking off or I've had a utility bill.

Problem is, I start off being happy with a beach hut and within half an hour I've raised my expectations to having a private dock with big game fishing boat, a coconut grove, a mango plantation and...

SoloSofa24 · 28/11/2024 17:23

I do the fantasy stuff sometimes, but also I have been planning my current move for more than five years and have kept a close eye on Rightmove in my target area all the time, so when I actively started looking I knew exactly what sort of properties were out there and how much they should cost.

So when estate agents tried to get me to go and look at an exciting property just coming on the market, perfect for me, I could ask the name of the street, say "is that the side backing on to the railway line? No thanks," or "but aren't all the houses on that street under 70sqm?" (my requirement was 100sqm or more) and not have my time wasted.

It feel a bit weird walking past so many houses and knowing exactly what they look like inside, and even recognising the dog sitting in the front window from the Rightmove pics of one that was on the market for a long time.

And it's also weird to think that quite apart from the eight couples who actually came to view the house I just sold, possibly dozens or hundreds or even thousands of strangers have seen the pics online and had strong opinions about my taste in interior design...

Not2identifying · 28/11/2024 17:29

Yes, I do. What amazes me is that no matter my pretend search criteria (budget, location, size, etc) I very rarely fall in love with a property. If I could magically buy it, I probably wouldn't. Really my secret wish is to 100% design my own place.

EducatingArti · 28/11/2024 17:30

Yes. I call it fantasy rightmoving!

ViciousCurrentBun · 28/11/2024 17:36

I’m looking to remodel my hallway so have been perusing ideas on rightmove. I know there are idea on websites and magazines but I just want to peek at real homes for ideas not staged ones.

UggyPow · 28/11/2024 17:42

My current searches are......
Llandudno
Anglesey
Cornwall
Seahouses
Shetland
Some of these are areas where I could up size & release equity - but the thought of dealing with adult health & social care again for my adult child puts me off even though it would mean I could stop working
😁😁
If anyone knows of any coastal nice places I am always up for a new search area 😁

RedToothBrush · 28/11/2024 17:54

Isn't that what Rightmove is for? Not actually to buy a house but to nosy?

RobinEllacotStrike · 28/11/2024 18:02

yes I'm there most days.

I was feeling a little sad today as the listing for my perfect dream house that I would buy the very instant I win the lottery has been sold, the listing on RM taken down & I cannot look at the photos any more.

I am also telling myself to get a bloody grip on this ridiculous habit most days.

I only look in my area, at houses I cannot and will not ever be able to afford.
