Am I the only one who spends a ridiculous amount of time on Rightmove even though I'm not looking to move

I seem to spend so much time looking at Rightmove even though I'm happy where I am. Today's searches have been: cottages in Frome, Bloomsbury apartment, Primrose Hill houses and houses in Boscastle. A very eclectic mix both location and budget wise.

Does anyone else find themselves doing this?

Delighted to know it's not just me! I want a huge country house that needs renovating 😆

Lunaballoon · 28/11/2024 18:20

We plan to move at some point but have no specific timescale or even location. I just know I’ve had enough of where we are now (London). Random searches on Rightmove which open up possibilities gives me quite a thrill, knowing that the right property could be out there!

ThianWinter · 28/11/2024 18:25

I have a rightmove wishlist, ready for when I win the lottery. I don't want to be hunting for the perfect house with several million quid in my bank account, I want to be putting in an immediate offer. I love my current house because it has a sea view, but my current dream lottery winner house has a its own private beach.

boymamm · 28/11/2024 18:28

My DH does this alllll the time! He'll show me a gorgeous house and I'll be like oh that's lovely, where is it? His reply... Sweden!
He seems to only look at houses overseas and seems to enjoy comparing what you can get for your money 😂
Definitely annoys me sometimes when he shows me our dream house, for a good price and then it turns out the house is in Canada 😅

levantine · 28/11/2024 18:30

I do this and also love the links from the Modern House that pop up on my Facebook feed

Notgoodatpoetrybutgreatatlit · 28/11/2024 18:32

My people! I'm so hard core I use Retties website so I can look at more scottish properties. I was on the Edinburgh one so much they asked me to leave a review which I did.
I live in London and not looking to move! I have an absolute addiction to one bedroom freehold houses in London.

Bigminnie1 · 28/11/2024 19:07

Oh no- this thread has just made me start searching and I have found the perfect house, not far from me. Except it's offers over £2 million...

3teens2cats · 28/11/2024 19:09

I do. I love looking at real homes for ideas etc rather than the unrealistic homes we see on social media or Pinterest etc

I wonder how many people a day click between Rightmove and the National Lottery site...

Hobbes8 · 28/11/2024 19:10

I do this. I was most put out when a lovely house near me went on the market and they didn’t include a floor plan. How am I supposed to work out where to put all my fantasy furniture?

yes I'm there most days.

I was feeling a little sad today as the listing for my perfect dream house that I would buy the very instant I win the lottery has been sold, the listing on RM taken down & I cannot look at the photos any more.

I am also telling myself to get a bloody grip on this ridiculous habit most days.

I only look in my area, at houses I cannot and will not ever be able to afford.

Don't worry! You can come and live with us in Nosy Be, with our coconut grove and big game fishing boat and mango plantation. It's only 125,000€ and now Phillip Schofield has been safely escorted off Madagascar we'll be just fine!

We'll have romozava, chow chow and brede mafana of an evening and wonder about whether bits of Malaysian Airways Flight 370 really did wash up on the beach or not.

One of the ones I rather fancied (but was just outside my price bracket and right next to a pub) had amazing, very thoughtfully restored and furnished interiors. I saved all the pics from Rightmove to my 'house inspiration' folder on my phone, and then was not all suprised to find the house featured in an interior design magazine (occupants were in design-related professions).

TeapotCollection · 28/11/2024 19:12

I’m on there every day

Hoppinggreen · 28/11/2024 19:12

I actually get paid to look at Rightmove, one of the best bits of my job!
Rental not purchase but I often have an really good budget.

Compash · 28/11/2024 19:13

Richard Dawson's lovely song 'Jogging' (about living with anxiety) has the line:

"The days drain away
Scouring Ebay
Or looking on Zoopla at houses where I'll never live..."

Nooooo! Living the dream! Literally! 😁

mambojambodothetango · 28/11/2024 19:14

My 13 year old does this! He browses for multi million euro villas in the Canaries. He even found our current house when we bought it 10 years ago. He couldn't believe we used to have pink carpet in the bathroom!

TeenLifeMum · 28/11/2024 19:15

Yes, it’s basically my hobby.

IAm16StoneHalloween2024 · 28/11/2024 19:15

This was in my top three Reddit subs this year.

Spotted on Rightmove

ShodAndShadySenators · 28/11/2024 19:31

It's like a hobby for me, a cheap harmless one. I found my childhood home on there after years of patient checking, I was delighted as I desperately wanted to know how it looked on the inside after years of Street View only. However naturally enough it seems the owners since have ruined it. RUINED it! I used to think how gorgeous it could be if money was spent on it, it's still not up to scratch imo.

I love my current house and don't want to move, but golly I love looking at all the lovely houses in our area, and sending links to people I know for them to goggle at the disaster area properties...

I have notifications set up for anything in my postcode, my parents village or my last house’s postcode. My old house came up a while ago. It was fascinating to see what they had and hadn’t done.

TheDowagerCountessofPembroke · 28/11/2024 19:56

It’s worth knowing that if you save a property then you can always go back and look at the pictures. I’ve just looked and my old house and current house are still there from over 10 years ago.

Saschka · 28/11/2024 19:57

Yep, beach houses/potential future Airbnbs (lottery win-dependent). Mostly north Kent coast, but I have also seen some gorgeous ones in Dorset.

Mysterian · 28/11/2024 19:59

I found just the right house in San Francisco the other day. 9.5 million, near a park and shop area. I'm a nursery worker from Berkshire who'll never visit the place let alone live there.
I've also been looking at castles in Europe and beach properties in the Florida Keys.
