Can I just ask those of you earning over £70k what do you do with your £? I just can’t fathom having that amount of disposable income!

Nursery fees and a south east mortgage. Our joint income is well over £70k but these take up a large chunk.

WeregoingtoIbiza · 26/11/2024 21:41

£45K, magazine editor (salaried f/t role although I top up to about £50K with other freelance stuff). I am underpaid for my skills and experience and am currently job hunting.

Mammalamb · 26/11/2024 21:42

£60k for a 4 day week (£75k when I worked fully time)

in IT. Not a particularly senior role. In fact fairly junior despite being in my 40s.

not going to lie: it’s a brilliant job. Interesting work, nice people, my work have done everything they possibly could to support me with a disability (I work from home most of the time, and have very flexible working hours)

I know how lucky I am

25 % to pension, 15% to investment - both of which come out through payroll so don’t feel have a huge take home after tax and deductions

Sushicucumbersalad · 26/11/2024 21:43

Factory worker, £46k

Mortgage, food, bills. My husband earns £110k plus share bonus. And believe it or not, we don’t have any much left each month! It’s beyond ridiculous!

NoNoNona · 26/11/2024 21:44

€720k net, retired IT freelancer.

QueryA · 26/11/2024 21:44

£56k. Researcher and lecturer at oxbridge uni. Not great considering I’ve a PhD and 20 years experience. Academia isn’t what it was. The pensions are nowhere near as good as nhs/teachers/civil service and the holidays aren’t even that great. I seriously need to think about moving 🙁

Gimmethemoney · 26/11/2024 21:44

130k + bonus, technology in financial services.

Where it all goes? Nursery fees & mortgage. Can't wait to be free of those!

wineandsunshine · 26/11/2024 21:44

Orangesofabed · 26/11/2024 21:44

Tangfastic71 · 26/11/2024 21:44

Software sales director - £150k + bonus
35 years experience
12 hour days the norm - have worked every weekend for the last 9 weeks
Don't know why I’m justifying myself
Probably because my mum was a dinner lady so it seems monstrous

Tangled123 · 26/11/2024 21:44

£30k as an Assistant Accountant. I should qualify as Chartered within the next couple of months as I only need my work experience signed off, so I’m hoping to be on £40k-£45k by the end of next year.

Jayinthetub · 26/11/2024 21:45

Social work manager - £45k (top of my grade) and working 60hrs/wk average

Everything over £100k goes into my pension.
We are paying off our mortgage as quickly as possible so we can afford to retire by mid50s.
One child in very expensive private school. Fully funding the other through uni.

We are well off, that is not in question, but we are investing in our children's futures and it often feels a lot tighter than our income would suggest. A situation entirely of our own making.

Crayfishforyou · 26/11/2024 21:46

I work in the creative industry and earn minimum wage.

Addictedtohotbaths · 26/11/2024 21:46

It’s not as much as you think: you get taxed to fuck. I went down to 4 days recently, so lost just over £1k a month gross, but actually, after tax and being able to claim child benefit, I’ve really only lost about £500 a month.

for those in London or other expensive areas with young kids at nursery, £70k is not a lot at all
