Excellent news 🎉

Can't stand the idiot, so glad to see the back of him.

Same. Utter opportunist. Completely negative without any thought.

Zonder · 03/12/2024 17:37

Rummly · 03/12/2024 13:25

What evidence would that be?

You could start with what was posted not far above my post you just quoted. Or do you struggle to recognise facts? Tough for some Tories, I have noticed. Definitely tough for Johnson!

Zonder · 03/12/2024 17:38

Rummly · 03/12/2024 14:00

No, none.

But you could try calling Morgan McSweeney.

Lack of facts?

Rummly · 03/12/2024 19:17

PandoraSox · 03/12/2024 15:21

So how did you hear about it?

I read about it online in an article I now can‘t track down. But the Mail is running it now in a piece by Dan Hodges.

I wasn’t playing hide and seek. I just wanted to be able to give you a source. Which I’ve now done.

ContactNightmare · 03/12/2024 19:21

Interesting news and bad news for the Conservatives.

Tim Montgomerie who founded Conservativehome has joined Reform.

Tim Montgomerie was a sensible Conservative. He is a credible person to join Reform and that is very bad news for Kemi Badenoch.

Jason118 · 03/12/2024 19:21

The Mail isn't a source, it's an excretion.

The Mail and Dan Hodges?

DuncinToffee · 03/12/2024 19:22

Dan Hodges of beergate and Rayner's council house, his article is behind paywall, convenient

The Mail and Dan Hodges?

Seriously? That’s a bit pathetic. If he claims a source why shouldn’t we believe it, any less than a Guardian journalist?

And Hodges has impeccable Labour credentials after all.

It’s not “convenient”. Just use the ‘reader’ function.
🙄

God this thread gets boring if it gets personal.

btw, it’s possible that British Steel will be nationalised quite shortly…

Yes, much better not to get personal.

ContactNightmare · 03/12/2024 19:32

Steel is the next big issue for Europe and the UK. We should be looking at that! I foresee a swift unwinding of a lot of Conservative policy in the coming years. Extraordinary stuff

This is a very big deal. We should watch carefully.

The implications for national security were not a thought in Thatchers time. Nor was the challenge on subsidies. But now they are big considerations.

BIossomtoes · 03/12/2024 19:41

The news about British Steel has made my day.

Rummly · 03/12/2024 19:49

It won’t happen. The government can scarcely afford more spending on public services, let alone massive losses in manufacturing industry. They’ve taken away winter fuel payments but are willing to spend billions on loss-making steel? I very much doubt it.

The article’s interesting for its noncommittal writing up of the government’s plans. Looks like heavy-handed messaging to me.

Hodges may have been a Labour supporter (no idea if he still is) but that doesn't mean he is a good or reliable journalist. Are you sure you can't remember where else you saw this reported? If it is only in the Mail then it is fair to take it with a heap of 🧂

ContactNightmare · 03/12/2024 19:52

It’s made the Telegraph. Loss making it may be but the considerations are now beyond pure economics. That’s the point

No I can’t. But if a national newspaper is running it I think we can safely assume that your salt can go straight back for its proper use.

He wasn’t just a Labour supporter. He is Glenda Jackson’s son, spent five years as her researcher and is a former GMB official. He’s steeped in Labour.

BIossomtoes · 03/12/2024 20:03

That’s not a national newspaper, it’s a right wing comic. Interesting that none of the others have picked it up.

Its political journalism is at least as good as the Guardian’s. I don’t favour its editorial, but opinion is a different matter to the reporting of facts.

Why on earth do people on these Starmer threads swear by the Guardian, Byline Times and The London Economic but dismiss everything else? Weird, frankly.

No way! Are you really suggesting that if something is on the Mail then it must be true?

It's really not just that it is right wing. It's fair enough to have a mix of leanings in the press. But suggesting they stick to the truth 😆
