What are you missing from the 90s, 2000 era

Just that really. Times have changed massively especially with social media and all the new technology in the world, what's everyone missing?

My waistline

Looking at cds and deciding what to listen to .

Shouting Siri and thinking up tunes to ask for is not the same .

AutumnLeaves24 · 21/11/2024 01:20

My energy & enthusiasm!!

Stickykidney · 21/11/2024 01:24

Going to miss Selfridge and looking at nail polish

Yuckyyuckyuckity · 21/11/2024 01:24

Recording 'mixtapes' off the radio. Sprinting to the 'hifi' to record it once you heard the song you wanted come on and waiting with your finger above the stop button to stop it just before the radio presenter started to speak 😂

NotAPersonPerson · 21/11/2024 01:26

The silence of my joints, cheap groceries & good music.

Garlicpest · 21/11/2024 01:30

Being slim, fit and well-off!

RogueFemale · 21/11/2024 01:32

The old days

Time40 · 21/11/2024 01:37

Everything!

OliviaRodrighost · 21/11/2024 01:41

The excitement of anticipating and saving up and buying a new CD of the song you love that has just been released rather than listlessly scrolling though every song ever produced and not fancying any of them.

TwinkleDee · 21/11/2024 01:42

The boredom of not having constant distractions (ie portable technology) and free time that led to unexpected adventures and fun. Whether it was calling in unannounced to visit someone, or an impromptu drink that inevitably resulted in a great night out. I miss that unstructured time that seemed to enable fun to just occur.

Poppins2016 · 21/11/2024 01:43

I miss dial up internet (well, I don't, it was infuriating, but bear with me...), because I hate being always "switched on" with constantly accessible emails, internet and apps. It's not so much that I can access it (I can choose to put my phone down whenever), it's that others expect me to be instantly available/accessible because of it... and there doesn't seem to be a store these days that doesn't require an app for discounts.

So I guess I miss the slower, comparatively tech free pace of life...

Side note, I've noticed a few of these 90/00's nostalgia threads recently... it's interesting that we're all suddenly feeling the need to reminisce... sign of the current times, I guess...

OctoblocksAssemble · 21/11/2024 01:47

Optimism.
But in more material terms; I miss mooching around the shops with friends, buying nonsense like blue glitter lip gloss, spending ages flipping through movie posters on a giant rack in Sam Goodie, and browsing bowls of mini soaps and bath pearls in the Bodyshop. Swimming without time slots, and the lockers were 20p instead of a pound. Free postcards at the odeon, that I used to decorate every inch of my bedroom.
I'm sure a lot of it was my age (oh for the days when clothes looked good on me, sigh) but it's rather hard to imagine my daughters having the same fun as teens in this era of social media and online shopping.
Edited for the many typos

It's so annoying for me because I can never think of songs I want to listen to, or what mood I'm in lol

Haha, also downloading music and putting it on a CD for the car. Now it's Bluetooth or usb

Mine would be
Having only one tv in the house, so we all would sit as a family.
Waking up early on a Saturday morning and grabbing a bowl of cereal and getting the tv remote first so you had control of what was on tv
Going into town for shopping instead of online.
Getting the new Harry Potter films on video the day they were released and watching them when you got home.
Not having to worry about your picture being taken and put god knows where, everyone grabs the phones out these days.
Downloading Music
The Films were so much better
Not everything was so serious and people didn’t get offended so much

I will never forget the dial up sound 😂
Yes everything is so serious these days, everything moves so quickly, new way of living.
I think we're all reminiscing because those times where the best, we had a childhood, we could go out on a night out and didn't care how we looked, now people lack confidence because always getting judged
As in we have to have the perfect bodies and there is pressure to "look good"

30s English girl here, so I was under 20 but there is lots I can say on this.
I miss how the world felt like it was optimistic and booming. Now it all feels very doom and gloom.
Trying on jeans in new look in any small town.
3p a message virgin to virgin mobile - 3 rings to a friend to say I was on my way,
Mobile devices being really fun affordable even for the most 'in' ones - having a pink flip phone one year, and then all the random Motorola devices
Dorothy Perkins in any small town!
Body shop in any small town Grin
Better quality everything even apples available in farm shops
I got social media in my teens but even that was way less serious and scaled down than it is now

amipretnant · 21/11/2024 02:48

Adding to that, packed town centres. Packed nightclubs and really glam fashion.
Fashion a little boring in comparison now

I bought a second-hand little hifi unit for this exact reason recently. It sits on a small table in the corner of the living room. It has a tape deck, CD player AND record player. I just need to fetch all my old music from my parents' loft to get the full experience of my youth but I'm loving it so much more than using the Alexa.

IThinkImGonnaBeSadIThinkItsToday · 21/11/2024 02:59

Being able to afford an occasional night out.
Woolworths. 😭
That peppermint foot lotion and Oceanus perfume from The Body Shop.
Being able to afford The Body Shop!
Being able to afford cinema and a huge bucket of popcorn!

Being able to buy Potato Triangles from Tesco and Sainsbury's . Now they gone! 😭
Being chubby as opposed to obese.
Being able to remember what I did 5 mins ago!

Girls could be tomboys, and nobody cared about labelling or genderwoo.
People could agree to disagree.

IThinkImGonnaBeSadIThinkItsToday · 21/11/2024 02:59

Cancel culture being much less of a thing.
Being able to see a GP in a timely manner.
