My poor, sore, raw nose

Soursop · 18/11/2024 19:35

What is best to put on my nose for soreness caused by heavy cold nose blowing? Nose is still streaming and I'm using a billion tissues so it's only going to get worse. Waah

Balsam tissues are excellent.

shellyleppard · 18/11/2024 19:37

Sudocrem last thing at night, hopefully you can get some sleep and the cream has a chance to work. If not any night moisturizer works too x sympathy I've just had it for a week x

Florafaunafish · 18/11/2024 19:37

Do you use the soft balsam type tissues? They work for me. The cheaper ones have the skin raw within a day.
Hope you feel better soon!

If you're at home, try blowing your nose straight into your hands when you're in the shower or even standing at the sink. It's gross but it's more gentle on your nose than a million tissues. You could also try using a neti pot or a nasal syringe to flush saline solution up one nostril and out the other. This is what I do with my children (several times a day at the moment) because they're too small to blow their noses hard.

Happinose Nasal Balm

MerryChristmasYaFilthyAnimals · 18/11/2024 19:39

I swear by those little tins of Vaseline. Before bed put the thickest layer ever on. Like layer upon layer (and don't let any pets near you otherwise you'll end ip with a furry mustache). By morning it will have eased loads.

WorriedMillie · 18/11/2024 19:39

Yellow metanium nappy rash cream! Makes you look a bit daft, but it really works!

SuperfluousHen · 18/11/2024 19:39

Balmond’s Skin Salvation.
I had the most horrendously sore eyelids last year and nothing helped - except this.

slather it on at bedtime.

It feels greasy but it really works.

Happinose. It's a bit like vaseline in a tube but much more soothing. I totally rely on the stuff because my nose turns into shreds when I wipe it constantly.

ShrimpBoil · 18/11/2024 19:40

Lip salve is good - spread all over (using your finger, not direct from the stick).

TheOnlyMooncat · 18/11/2024 19:41

Blistex (I think that's the name). Lip balm in a little blue pot. Only think that works for me and is also slightly numbing 👍

TheFlis · 18/11/2024 19:41

Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream is the only thing that saves my nose when it’s like that.

cortex10 · 18/11/2024 19:43

Another vote for Blistex - smarts a bit at first but very soothing.

IDontDrinkTea · 18/11/2024 19:44

This might sound odd…

but lansinoh nipple cream that’s made for breastfeeding. Heals so quickly once you’ve put a bit of that on

Dreamingofgoldfinchlane · 18/11/2024 19:44

Another vote for Happinose - it's the best!

MissEloiseBridgerton · 18/11/2024 19:44

Lanolin nipple cream! Absolutely swear by it for chapped lips, noses, cheeks etc!

User364837 · 18/11/2024 19:44

When at home I use muslin cloths or cotton hankies instead of tissues, and dab/hold against it rather than blow or rub.

and Vaseline/quality lip balm stuff all over my nose

Soursop · 18/11/2024 20:04

Great suggestions, thanks. I have some Elizabeth Arden eight hour cream so will start with that then sudocrem at bed time. Thanks

Happinose

TheTecknician · 18/11/2024 20:21

If your other half has any Nivea after shave balm, use some of that. It is cooling and moisturising.

Swizzel · 18/11/2024 20:23

Another vote for Happinose, it's absolutely brilliant.

Balsam tissues are excellent.

I came on to say don't use them! I had a massive eczema flare up all over my face when I used those tissues when I had a cold.

ManhattanPopcorn · 18/11/2024 20:26

Kleenex balsam tissues make a big difference.

Balloonhearts · 18/11/2024 20:32

Cover it in vaseline BEFORE you wipe or blow it. Prevents friction from the tissue making it sore.

Got any metanium? That will help it now its sore.
