What were these chocolates?

Just read a thread where the OP was trying to remember what some chocolates were and it's got me scratching my head about some that I vaguely remember. And when I say vaguely, I mean it...

All I can recall is that they were small oblongs of individually wrapped chocolate in different flavours. No nuts or anything else, just different flavours of chocolates. I seem to remember there was one particular flavour that we'd all fight over, but no idea what it was!

I think they only made an appearence on high days and holidays, probably Christmas, and I'm sure they were classed as posh and were always a real treat to have.

Am I dreaming?! I was a child of the 70s, so I'm guessing it would have been mid 70s if that helps.

Yes, Neopolitans - my auntie always had them at Christmas. She was a bit posher than us!

Wherehavetheyallgone · 18/11/2024 18:27

Yes, where have Neopolitans gone?!

AnyFucker · 18/11/2024 18:27

I used to love those ! Can you still buy them ?

Milknosugarta · 18/11/2024 18:28

Neopolitans. M&S do or did do them.

Matildatoldsuchdreadfullies · 18/11/2024 18:28

I have just spent £18 on Neapolitans from Lindt for DH’s Christmas present. Big packet, but even so… Terry’s Neapolitans were much cheaper.

Dirtyprotest · 18/11/2024 18:29

Memory unlocked! Neopolitans, saturday evenings at the grandparents. Happy Days.

Flamez · 18/11/2024 18:29

Whitakers do a very nice Neapolitan selection

WinWhenTheyreSinging · 18/11/2024 18:30

I have bought my brother most of the above brands to pander to his remembered fondness for Terry’s Neapolitans. None of them cut it, sadly.

Yes, two types of meat and two of fish 😀

Revels but they came in all shapes lol

M&S used to do a packet of wrapped mini chocolates with different flavours. Each would've been about 1cm x 7cm. This was the 80s perhaps. They were packaged with the chocolate all laid next to each other, maybe 10 in a pack. My granny always used to buy us a packet when she visited.

Mipil · 18/11/2024 18:57

Neopolitans. I would love a box of them, some Suchard praline eggs and Lindt mini eggs and a box of Weekend too! Sigh…

EmotionalSupportBiscuit · 18/11/2024 18:58

@Mipil a box of Weekend and one of Carousel please! The lime diamond - never bettered.

RomainingToBeSeen · 18/11/2024 18:58

Neapolitans! If I remember rightly they were also the right size for the 1970s Cadbury's chocolate machine.

Wherehavetheyallgone · 18/11/2024 19:02

I've googled and lots of other Neopolitans come up, but mostly flat squares. Very similar to the branded ones given away at trade shows. The Terry's Neopolitans were thicker and a rectangular shape. The coffee one was divine!

I bought something like this from an independent sweet shop in a small town last Christmas. I think the brand was Merci. Definitely reminded me of something from my childhood.

I would probably just settle for just one more lime diamond alone, @EmotionalSupportBiscuit !
