Neom diffuser smells bad. Help!

I have a Neom diffuser and it's lovely, I use Neom's oils or White Company. I use one for about a month then change.

At the start of the day it's lovely but by the afternoon it really stinks coming out.

I have scrubbed the hell out of it with fairy inside and out every time I switch oils, I've been cleaning it thoroughly daily now to try and get the smell away. It smells fine, and like I say starts off fine, but then it smells... funky. I put fresh water and oil in every morning.

Why is this happening, and what can I do please?

Bumping again so I don't throw the bloody thing in the bin

After I've used my electric diffuser, I empty it immediately. I then spray in some rubbing alcohol, focusing on the wee round bit in the bottom, and gently wipe it dry with a tissue.

@Hoogieflip thank you for your reply, I've just ordered some rubbing alcohol from amazon and will try that. I do empty it in the afternoon as soon as the horrible smell comes out.

Good luck! If I were you, I'd clean it like I suggested, then pour in enough rubbing alcohol to cover the bottom and leave it to evaporate. It sounds like the smell may be from mould spores which need to be killed so that wee bit on the bottom may benefit from a good soak.
If it still smells, I'd try the same with white vinegar (which kills mould).

RainbowWife · 23/11/2024 18:53

The rubbing alcohol isn't working. Any other ideas please?

Is it getting too hot so giving off a hot plastic odour?

RainbowWife · 24/11/2024 19:28

Hmmm I checked today and it's not warm at all, so don't think it's that.

Tried the vinegar again but no joy.

Has about 4 nice smelling hours before the mouldy rotten smell appears

Could it be that the water chamber has dried up and it’s the smell of charred oil ?

RainbowWife · 25/11/2024 20:34

No not a burnt smell and there's still half the water left in

Some neon diffusers you don't add water to you just slot the upside down bottle straight in so could it be that?

I'm glad you posted as I was about to buy one. I'd return to shop.

Are you using cheap oils. Mine does that if I use cheap oils. They have a top note but no depth. I also find it helps to use filtered water

Id try the filtered water then.

RainbowWife · 26/11/2024 11:22

Ok I've filled it today with filtered water from the fridge. Will update!

Have tried:

-cleaning with rubbing alcohol very thoroughly
-boiling water and fairy
-vinegar

Fucking thing. Filtered water doesn't make a difference.

Any other suggestions before I chuck it in the bin please?!

Honestly, unless the rubber seal on the top has gone mouldy it isnt your diffuser. Its what you are putting into it.

If the water doesn't make a difference then either your oil has gone off or theres a base note in the oil that you personally don't like but you only notice after a while or as the water level is decreasing the oil is becoming more intensive because there isn't enough water in it (in which case top up the water)

BringMeTea · 02/12/2024 11:39

This has happened to every single diffuser I have ever owned, from expensive to less expensive. I wash out regularly, use surgical spirit, white vinegar, boiled water. I use Aromatherapy Associates and White Company oils. They are basically shit!

Mrsgreen100 · 02/12/2024 11:42

Think they are horrible chemical things
burn essential oil instead

Take it back to the shop - they can contact the supplier.

RedVelvetIcing · 02/12/2024 12:00

Have you contacted Neom? They may replace it.
