Old-fashioned foods which should make a comeback

I am just making a cheese and potato pie for lunch, which I last ate circa 1988. It's basically mashed potatoes mixed with an egg and a fuck load of cheese, more cheese on top and then baked in the oven. Bloody lovely, relatively cheap and filling.

Which other old-fashioned foods do you make /have you made recently which you think should make a comeback?

I still occasionally make corned beef hash like my dad used to make me it when I was ill. I know it varies regionally, but for me growing up it was always just mashed potatoes, lots of butter and a can of corned beef mashed into it. My dad used to fry it to get crispy bits but it never works for me so I just have it as it is, with ketchup or sometimes baked beans on the side.
My two kids won’t even try it 😂

My mum used to get sliced corned beef from the butcher. Her corned beef hash was done in a small pyrex dish.
Alternating layers of mash, layers of corned beef. With mash on the top. Then in the oven until the mash on top was crispy.
Sometimes she would put a couple of layers of baked beans too.
You would get a scooped out portion so got all the layers.

I always add a bit of boiled onion (something I never do with onions in any other circumstances) in the mash for my corned beef hash, and sometimes some cooked cabbage or kale as well. heat it all in the microwave, then stick it (in its pyrex dish) in the air fryer for 7 or 8 minutes to brown and crisp.

I was visiting my 84 year old Dad yesterday, who had a tin of corned beef on the worktop ready to make a cottage pie. Yum!

Looked pre-eaten, though.

You can get packs of semolina (dry goods) from the food hall of M&S. Cook it with milk on the hob and serve with a dollop of jam. Yum.

My DM used to make a jam tart then put cake mix on it and put it back in the oven. I think she called it matrons of honor or maids of honor? They were my favourite treat. Best still warm from the oven.

I used to make Maids of Honour! Absolutely delicious
