Hi all new here.

I did post in Scotsnet but didn’t get much intrest

need a little help my son has been transferred over to child disability payment from DLA and his claim runs out this coming December!
I have sent away a change of circumstances to child disability payment at the start of October, has anyone recently went through this process and knows how long it’s currently taking? My friends mum recently when through the process with adult disability payment and took around 4/5 months calling up is no help I always seem to get the same women and she says they don’t give updates as much now.. I’ve had lots of updates before when I’ve called when it’s not the same lady.

A COC is taking months 5/6 at the very least usually. In terms of review they usually send a letter just after the date asking you if there are any changes. I'm not sure how this will work with you doing a COC so close to review though.

I actually received a letter today about his review saying it will be revived soon I think this was just standard letter every one gets nearer the time.

The complication is that you already have a COC in, so that will be done but then you have the review which will re look at the award all over again. Make sure you give every detail in the review that you have for the COC if it hasn't been completed by the time you send the review. If you get the COC through first you are probably good to 'no change' the review.

Also, your award won’t stop. It’ll keep being paid, I’m sure you know; it just might be adjusted to take into account your change of circs. If everything’s the same tho it shouldn’t need to be

I was advised today on the live chat that the change of circumstances will be a 2for1 lol! Pritty much meaning they’ll do both together so there won’t be a need for a review because the change of circumstances will cover that.

but the man did say on the phone there is such a long back log at the moment it’s taking a while.

When I did a change of circumstances for my son’s child disability payment, it took about six months to be processed but we got the extra money backdated. He was transferred over from DLA so not sure how long new claims for CDP are taking, the SSS webchat service is decent, doesn’t take long to get an advisor, I can never get an answer on the phone!

I’m in the same boat, I applied in august and was told that likely it will be next year I will hear back about a decision. The woman on the phone was really cheeky tbh and kept interrupting me saying “there are no timescales”

Yeah I had one like that was really rude I used to always get nice advisors and very supportive! Online chat seems to be helpful though

I'm confused ,why did you send a change of circumstances, when his claim was due to run out in December?
Assuming his needs have changed. ,that will all be reviewed on renewal anyway ?

well u answered the question yourself his needs have changed and when someone’s needs changed they have to be reported as soon as possible his claim is for renewal in December so I’m not going to wait nearly 7 weeks, then when his renewal comes and they ask why I didn’t report it when it occurred. So yes I did put in a new change of circumstances not that it’s any of your business for the reason why I did a change of circumstances or when I did it.
thats not the advise I was asking for thank you very much.

I went with the guidance as to report change of circumstances. 🤔

I wasent being rude I assumed maybe I'm wrong?
That ir was similar to DLA in that they send the renewal forms many weeks before the actual renewal ?
So was merely wondering why.you would make more work for yourself apologies if I'm wrong.

I’m not making more work for myself because come December when his renewal is due this will be irrelevant because the change of circumstances would be completed and that would take in to account his renewal

I know this is an old thread, but does anyone have any updates? I’ve been waiting on a COC for nearly 10 months…

kirstblxo · 18/02/2025 16:24

Moro, we aren't waiting on a coc, but i made a new claim in october and only now has it been picked up to be looked at

NPen · 01/03/2025 21:45

I did a coc in August. Spoke to them mid Feb they were only looking at may 2024 coc at that point.

Hawkmoth · 01/03/2025 21:49

I just had a COC come through in late Feb. It took 10 months since they received it and made their decision.

Moro93 · 02/03/2025 00:48

@NPen @Hawkmoth Hopefully I’ll hear something soon then, I made the change at the beginning of May last year.

NPen · 15/03/2025 17:56

@Moro93 have I heard anything? It’s

Yeah, I got a backdated payment on the 6th but didn’t get the letter until the 8th. But I did the COC at the very beginning of May, so you might still wait a while for August.

NPen · 17/03/2025 11:37

Aww I’m so glad you did. It’s terrible the length of time u wait. Xx
