Online passport renewal error!!

Hi everyone,

I’m hoping someone here has experienced something similar and can offer some advice. I recently completed a passport renewal for my child, I got an email to say parent 1 detail (my place of birth) did not math their records. I can only think I put down my daughters birth place as my birth place… I just cant remember.

The Passport Office requested my birth certificate. I sent it first class yesterday and they have recieved it but not scanned into the system yet. I’m wondering if this will be enough for them to correct the information. Has anyone else been in this situation? Did they manage to sort it out without too much hassle?

Any insights would be really appreciated. Thanks!

I haven't had the same issue, but I've had good experiences talking to them over the phone - maybe give them a ring and explain/ask if there's anything more needed on your side?

Definitely call them over the phone. I got some major detail wrong when doing my dcs first passport. I sorted it by phone by memory - not immediately but they basically went away and sorted it over the next few days. It was a rare smooth interaction with a helpline for me

mindutopia · 14/11/2024 20:37

Yes, it will be fine. I mistyped dh’s date of birth and didn’t catch it when I checked it over. I had to send his birth certificate. We had the passport like 4 days later. Was really quick and no big deal. This happens all the time.

TerrysOrange456 · 15/11/2024 12:38

Thank you for the replies. Shall I give them a call or wait? I got an email yesterday that said allow 5 working days for document to be scanned on. Really worried

I don’t think there is any harm calling them even if it’s just to discuss the situation to calm yourself while the online stuff goes on in the background.

it might be enough to cut through the anxiety until it’s sorted

TerrysOrange456 · 15/11/2024 16:25

@Ginkypig I called them. So I put
my birth of place as my daughters birth of place.. silly me.. she said just got to wait for the birth certificate I sent to be scanned.. passport received updated quick.. why do documents take long?

See! Now you can stop worrying and let the process take its course.

TerrysOrange456 · 16/11/2024 08:04

@Ginkypig 🤞

It will be fine OP. They take ages between recurving docs to dealing with them.

olympicsrock · 16/11/2024 08:06

The passport office were really fast sorting out my minor issue recently

Wrongsideofpennines · 16/11/2024 08:08

We had really quick service a couple of weeks ago. Sent documents after last post on the Friday so not received until Monday - all passports and documents returned by Friday.

TerrysOrange456 · 16/11/2024 08:30

@Wrongsideofpennines wow thats quick. @olympicsrock aw thats nice to hear. @SunQueen24 thank you. Why am I just sat thinking my envelope will under a pile somewhere .. passport got scanned into the system the next day. I sent birth certificate first class too. It got delivered 9:00 in the morning. Just worried about it going missing 😩

OnABoatToday · 16/11/2024 08:34

Even if it does go missing you can order another one, if that's what you're worried about.

TerrysOrange456 · 18/11/2024 15:08

Does anyone know if online will update when they scan the birth certificate?

OP posts:
TerrysOrange456 · 18/11/2024 15:09

@Wrongsideofpennines did you send passports and documents seperatly or was it in the same envelope?

ThatCalmPombear · 18/11/2024 15:12

I had a similar issue recently... I put "Islington" as my place of birth when what is written in my passport is actually "London". (My DD was actually born in the same hospital as me, but her passport says Islington). Could it be something like that? It got sorted very quickly when I phoned!

Wrongsideofpennines · 18/11/2024 15:27

TerrysOrange456 · 18/11/2024 15:09

All in one. It was all the family applying for change of name, brand new for the kids and renewal for DH. They returned each passport in a separate envelope but the documents together in an A4 sized one with the old passports too.

Divebar2021 · 18/11/2024 15:32

Have you got a deadline that you need it for?

TerrysOrange456 · 18/11/2024 15:37

@ThatCalmPombear thats exactly what happened to me! Thank you for sharing your experience. They asked for my birth certificate which i sent. Nothing updating though. Did they ask for your birth certificate? Or were you able to just correct it over the phone?

TerrysOrange456 · 18/11/2024 15:38

@Divebar2021 mother in law is very ill and would like to travel to see her in december. Last year father in law died and we couldnt go out to see him.. the regret is big. Don’t want to regret it again.

@Wrongsideofpennines thanks for that. My passport got scanned the next day but nothing about supporting document.

Gotcha. I really hope you get it sorted - I’ve always found the passport office perform faster than advertised.
