Such a stalwart of theatre, classic TV and film. Loved him on the Canal Journeys with Prunella Scales. RIP

A sad loss. A great actor - it's hard to think of a bad production he appeared in - and he certainly seemed like a very loving and devoted husband to Pru. I really enjoyed the canal journeys series, both because it was interesting from the travel/history perspective but also because they were so open about Pru's dementia, something which I believe is much needed in society.

Pemba · 13/11/2024 11:53

Oh what a shame. It feels as though I've seen him acting in stuff quite recently. Didn't realise he was 90.

He was a good man and so devoted to his poor wife Prunella who's been suffering from dementia for years. Now she's left behind, how sad.

WinterCrow · 13/11/2024 12:01

I met him once after one of his wonderful monologue performances at a drinks thing. He was lovely to everyone, despite it being a very long night for him.

piscofrisco · 13/11/2024 12:02

Oh no, I loved him.

NewGreenDuck · 13/11/2024 12:12

Yes, I loved the canal boat journeys. He was so caring towards Prunella, I hope she copes without him. RIP. May his memory be a blessing.

Sad news

MisterPNumber23 · 13/11/2024 12:15

Oh I'm sad he's gone first. I wonder how his wife will cope. 😕 Poor lady.

levantine · 13/11/2024 12:15

This is sad news.

HuaShan · 13/11/2024 12:24

How sad. I'm just listening to an audiobook narrated by him. He always seemed a very fine man.

DramaAlpaca · 13/11/2024 12:26

Sad news. RIP to a very fine actor.

LadyofRutshire · 13/11/2024 12:29

Oh this is sad news. Just watched Tales of the unexpected with him in it the other night. Royal Jelly think it was called.

RIP

ExhaustedHousewife · 13/11/2024 12:34

Aww so sad, this happens a lot,in my experience when the carer passes first.God bless him.

OliviaRodrighost · 13/11/2024 12:37

I was lucky enough to see him playing Lear when we went to see it with my English class as a teen. What an unparalleled actor. He ignited my love for Shakespeare that has continued to this day. A true talent and by all accounts a lovely man. RIP.

My thoughts are with his wife.

Ineedanotherheropreferablyatwix · 13/11/2024 12:44

Oh that is sad he was a brilliant actor and clearly a devoted husband and father. I've not long finished watching All Creatures Great and Small with his lookalike son in.

Yes, I've met him too , sad news.

PinkTonic · 13/11/2024 12:53

That’s sad news. They were very brave to do the canal series and share so much of the experience of dementia.

BringMeTea · 13/11/2024 12:58

Sad news. A fine actor. May he RIP.

DonnaGiovanna · 13/11/2024 13:00

Oh no, RIP. First saw him in the very funny ITV drama Brass, which I recently bought on dvd for old times sake. Might have to dust it off and rewatch.

BananaNirvana · 13/11/2024 13:01

Oh that’s devastating news for his wife - he was so utterly devoted to her 😢😢.

Illjusthavethebreadsticks · 13/11/2024 13:16

Lovely man and lovely couple. A total love story.

RB68 · 13/11/2024 13:17

Another of our legends.

I too feel for him - it is often the carer ends going first, worn out with it all

May he rest in peace.

flapjackfairy · 13/11/2024 13:19

yes I feel v sad about the news. I am sure he was really hoping Pru went first. It will be v hard on her and his children.

Cynic17 · 13/11/2024 13:21

Very sad. A great actor - such a range. Saw him and Pru at the theatre last year - they had people escorting them, but you could hear her say "Tim, darling, are you there?". I wonder if she will be able to understand what has happened, bless her.

Samcro · 13/11/2024 14:57

thats sad. love the canal programmes. his poor wife.
