Anyone else still not put the heating on?

Children are teens who run hot and walk around in vests still and moan if I even mention the heating
I get chilly but layer up.

I said I'd wait till November but still not put it on.

Get it on already! Whats the thermostat say?

cariadlet · 11/11/2024 21:30

I haven't but I'm in Sussex so it's mild. On colder evenings I wrap up with an extra layer or use it as an excuse for an early night

TwattyMcFuckFace · 11/11/2024 21:30

Mine's been on and off for the last two months.

We normally stick it on 20 for an hour or so in the morning, and again in the evening.

No idea, I dont even look at it 😅

As soon as I put it on last year someone would turn it off or complain!

I’m in a well insulated flat & perimenopausal.

No need for heating here yet! Grin

RainbowZebraWarrior · 11/11/2024 21:33

I guess it depends where you live and what health conditions you have.

NE coast of England here. Currently 4 degrees. 12 year old DD has reynauds and Hypothyroiditis. I'm disabled and my arthritis is agonising. I'm fucking freezing, so the heating has been on since 6pm. No choice here really at the end of the day (I already wear 3 layers)

FromCuddleLand · 11/11/2024 21:34

We have it on every few days for 30-60 mins. Mostly to help dry the washing by the radiators. I can't bear hot rooms. The kitchen heats up with cooking. We all have woollen blankets on top of our duvets and use hot water bottles. We also all wear oldies and use blankets on our legs when watching TV. I honestly haven't felt cold yet.

username7891 · 11/11/2024 21:35

Not yet. I'm wearing a T shirt but am feeling a nip.

newdiamondring · 11/11/2024 21:36

Not on yet here on Kent Sussex border. Use a wood burner at night.

It's been so mild (14 degrees this weekend) that I just haven't needed it. However, now the cloud of the last two weeks is lifting. it's going to get chilly!

Mine has been coming on for about 30 mins a day, it comes on if it drops below 17c but it's still fairly warm
Off at night

MeanderingGently · 11/11/2024 21:38

I've had mine on since September - during the milder days only the heated towel rail in the bathroom and the hall radiator, which takes the chill off the north facing hallway.
However, it hasn't been so warm here as in the south and on many recent mornings we've had a bit of a ground frost, so yes, we need the warmth.

Serencwtch · 11/11/2024 21:39

Not yet but am South East England & temps have been well above average for November.

Have turned it on for an hour at a time a few times when I've needed to dry washing.

RaininSummer · 11/11/2024 21:44

Only used it for 4 hours in total so far. It just isn't very cold..

fitnessmummy · 11/11/2024 21:45

We've got the windows open!

TennisLady · 11/11/2024 21:46

I’m NE so definitely have to! It’s 4 degrees right now.

Comedycook · 11/11/2024 21:47

Not yet. We're in London in a fairly modern house.

Eileen101 · 11/11/2024 21:50

Avoiding where possible for the cost as a single parent. Thermostat bumps on if it goes below 16 as i have reynaurds but I'll usually press it into action for the children's bath if it hasn't already come on post school.

AgathaLioness · 11/11/2024 21:53

We had it on a handful of times at the beginning of October, but just to take the edge off, so about 20-30 mins. Hasnt been put on timer yet for the mornings, but it was cold here today

User135644 · 11/11/2024 21:55

I had it on a few hours a day last week because it was getting cold and the house needed warming up.

Yesterday and today it's mild again and i've not needed it.

Bobbybobbins · 11/11/2024 22:04

It comes on 6-8am and 4-9pm for us if it drops below 18. Mornings it's been coming on, evenings intermittent. I have two days at home in the week and not out it on yet when it's just been me- drops to 15.

Shittyhouse · 11/11/2024 22:10

We have bought a new David Wilson house and the house is so cold, mostly the living room, that the heating is on since early October.
Not really that you will expect from a new house.

usernother · 11/11/2024 22:16

Put mine on for an hour this morning to 18 degrees. Then the same this evening but I turned it off before the hour was up because I was too hot.

AppleDumplingWithCustard · 11/11/2024 22:21

I don’t understand how having the heating on for just 30 minutes a day can possibly make an appreciable difference. The temperature achieved must drop again fairly rapidly. I just don’t see the point. I appreciate though that this is a competitive thing on here.

DelilahBucket · 11/11/2024 22:25

Crikey, it's 5 degrees here right now and the wind is a cold biting one. Our heating has been kicking in as the house has dropped under 18 degrees for nearly two months now, and we have a very warm and well insulated house and always reach for blankets if we're cold. It's not been a warm year in Yorkshire at all.
