How many families do you know that have been to Lapland?

I think it’s got more popular over the years.

Oncology children get to go on a day trip most from
My children's hospital. Children with other equally serious diagnosis, don't get a look in.

We've been to the Tromsø one as DH is Norwegian, so it wasn't much bother to travel as we were in the country anyway. Didn't do the Santa stuff; it was focus on Sámi culture, reindeers, and seeing the Aurora. Loved it!

I find Father Christmas visits toe curling so it's not for me.

DreamyMe · 11/11/2024 15:09

One, they went a long time ago though. It was about 20 years ago.

  1. They had an amazing time but the airline lost their luggage- at -22 that's not good!
Arglefraster · 11/11/2024 17:59

One. It was my friend's dying wish to take her small children there for her last Christmas.

My family and one of my friends and their family. I loved every minute (but was determined to because of the cost, even ten years ago!). My friend was less impressed but he is used to luxury and despite the prices it wasn't that.

My mother grew up in Lappland.

I live in an affluent area and my kids go to a Pvte School. No one from the Pvte School but about 25 families from our old state school. Plus two families within my family. They all said it was the holiday of a lifetime!

Wow, so many people! What would you say is the upper age for Santa stuff?

We took my DS over 13 years ago. We stayed over Christmas for 4 nights, in a cabin at the Santa village in Rovaniemi. Booked everything independently and did our "Santa experience" with two visits to Joulukka, rather than the village itself, which was absolutely magical and it seems is still there today.

Two of my cousins took their kids on the day trips operated by Canterbury if I recall, one old school friend took her two kids on a three day experience, as did my closest friends with their two kids.

How did their experience compare to yours?

Only us, we did a one day trip to Finnish Lapland. Wasnt actually that expensive when you broke it down into what was included, but it was such a long day. One I'll never forget, but we were ruined the day after.

We didn't tell the kids till we got to the airport. They were so confused and excited at 5am 😂

I would go back in a heartbeat, not necessarily to see Santa but to explore the region more, I adore the cold.

I honestly couldn't tell you! We never compared to be honest, and everyone did what was best for their circumstances and when to different areas/hotels. All I know is that we all enjoyed it tremendously.
