How many families do you know that have been to Lapland?

I think it’s got more popular over the years.

My husband took my daughter when she was 7 and then my youngest son at the same age. They both went for a week and absolutely loved it. It's still the greatest experience of their lives and they are 25 and almost 22.

Imnotarestaurant · 10/11/2024 20:56

One family.

I looked into it as I came into an unexpected inheritance, and last year would probably be the last year both my dc still believe in Santa, but I just couldn’t justify the cost for a few days.

minipie · 10/11/2024 21:03

Two. They did one of those one day trips. It sounded completely insane to me.

I’d like to go one day, but with much older kids and for a week of wintery activities and Northern lights, not Santa.

What's with all the lapland threads today? It almost seems like it's being orchestrated..

DinnaeFashYersel · 10/11/2024 21:08

None

elastamum · 10/11/2024 21:10

None, but I was having a conversation with someone whose friend has a holiday job as an elf. Apparently it helps if they can speak English.

SingingSands · 10/11/2024 21:15

Five - over the last fifteen years.

It was never something I thought about doing with my children - like Disney. Some families do enjoy that kind of thing, but I don't. Not a big deal.

mindutopia · 10/11/2024 21:23

None, I’m very middle class, but I think the wrong sort of middle class for Lapland.

NewName24 · 10/11/2024 21:28

None, that I am aware of.

ThomasPatrickKeatingsDegas · 10/11/2024 21:28

None but gosh I wish I could!!

mollyfolk · 10/11/2024 21:30

A fair few. You can do it more reasonably I think. The day visit with a chartered flight is very expensive.

They all thought it was magical. It's sounds nice but it wouldn't be top of my list:

We went as a last minute thing when the Christmas trip we'd planned fell through. It was the Christmas before Covid and it was brilliant. I'm not a package holiday person but we met some nice people and avoided the awful ones. Our DD loved it. Id definitely go back to Finland/Lapland but without all the Christmas stuff.

OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea · 10/11/2024 21:44

Twice and have a third booked. Know a couple of families who have been. We've never done anything related to father Christmas, one family I know did but the others didn't.

It is lovely and a great alternative to skiing in France/Italy/Switzerland etc. Lovely skiing, saunas, nice food, calm, no queues for the ski lifts and lots to do for non skiers. It isn't all about father Christmas and commercial shit.

DanceMumTaxi · 10/11/2024 21:46

10 that I can think of off the top of my head, but there could easily be more, and some of those have been more than once.

Mylovelygreendress · 10/11/2024 21:47

I am thinking about taking my grandchildren next year but no idea how best to do it . All ideas welcome .

Antsinmypantsneedtodance · 10/11/2024 21:49

People saying its expensive have clearly never researched it. Or are the kind of people who can't or won't travel independently.

I've not been (yet) and don't know anyone personally who've been. But it's not anymore expensive than a week in spain. Actually probably cheaper if you're clever about it.you don't need to go on some overpriced day trip or organised tour.

Ryanair and easyjet fly there. Theres lots of rentals and air bnbs. Car hire is reasonably affordable. You can pick up winter clothing secondhand cheap.

Depending on what you do when there, it can add up but thats personal choice. There's also some cheaper and free activites too.

AgileGreenSeal · 10/11/2024 21:50

Zero

Ratfinkstinkypink · 10/11/2024 21:51

None but you have inspired me to look into it.

LilacLilyBird · 10/11/2024 22:03

Some friends went

They enjoyed it but it was really really cold

No one else was there except them because it so expensive

This was about 10 years ago

They lots of lovely stuff out there so definitely a wonderful experience

TheChosenTwo · 10/11/2024 22:06

I know of a family who went last Christmas with their 7 kids! Would love to know what it cost them but I don’t really know them to ask 😂
Other than that, no one that I know has ever mentioned going so I’m going to say none.

coronafiona · 10/11/2024 22:31

I went one year, we gave up all other holiday and spending g for three days there. It was utterly totallly and amazingly magical. My favourite was being pulled on a sledge through the forest by reindeer through snow laden trees. It was absolutely fantastic. I wish I could go back.
