😴I can’t get no sleep 💤

It must be a week now since I haven’t been able to sleep for more than a couple of hours a night. Sleep has been a problem for me on and off for a long time.
Anybody else struggling too?

Magnesium helps me occasionally especially the flakes in the bath (I use a lot, not just a handful)
If you like a bath this is lovely, can't promise sleep but it's relaxing and on offer

Podcasts help a bit mostly so I don't start overthinking, I did like the calm app ones best

MessyNeate · 10/11/2024 02:15

Also awake. Also with an annoying cough, though my sleep is always terrible cos I work nights, and also peri menopausal

If it's really bad I've used Kirkland sleep aid or night nurse

I couldn't sleep after my mum died and the doctor gave me 3 sleeping tablets like they were precious gold
I said "what do you need to get a week, your entire family to die?"
I don't think he got my sense of humour!

😂😂😂

im here too!

I've never been a good sleeper.

About 6 months ago, I had 2 nights that were brilliant (for me) & I felt like a whole different person. It's been years since I slept like that.

i tried to replicate the day:evening/night, but it didn't work

it created a terrible spiral that I can't get out of.

I am single. I need a human teddy bear! I
might put up an Ad for a man overnight!! Sex first and a teddy bear until the morning!!

Kneenightmare · 10/11/2024 02:32

I’m here too. Sleep has been awful for years but is particularly bad at the moment. I do think it’s partly lifestyle though when I was on holiday a couple of weeks ago I was walking around outside all day and slept much better. Now I’m back wfh 8-6 hunched over a lap top I’m back to 2-3 hours a night. Peri menopause is also factor but feel like that will go on forever. Will try the magnesium flakes though.

Ebabllisstggoffor · 10/11/2024 02:36

My sleep is terrible. I always seem to have something to worry about. Currently we’re waiting DH’s MRI results. He’s being investigated for pancreatic cancer. I’m so worried.

RainbowSnake · 10/11/2024 02:43

Same here. I wonder if it’s perimenopause but I think I’m too young and it’s been happening for too long.

I'm with you.

Kneenightmare · 10/11/2024 03:02

Hope he’s ok @Ebabllisstggoffor. that must be really worrying.

Yes it is and here I am awake again.

CarolinaWren · 11/11/2024 03:30

I've had major sleep issues for my entire life. Sleeping pills were worthless, but I now take gabapentin before bed and that makes all the difference for me.

AutumnLeaves24 · 11/11/2024 03:33

I'm here again tonight, but I'm going to log out, have the 37th 'last' wee & try again. Good luck everyone!!

greenrollneck · 11/11/2024 03:39

I'm here, but mine is acid indigestion keeping me up. Bloody painful I have a glass of milk and I'm sat up reading hoping it will ease enough to nod off.

When I do go through bouts of not sleeping I use the calm app, there are sleep stories, one is by Shaun mendes and his voice is lovely, I've never heard the end of the story.

giggly · 11/11/2024 03:50

Long term menopausal insomnia . I have tried every bit of sleep hygiene advice non helps. I have self medicated on alcohol, promethazine, night nurse , magnesium, melatonin and co codomol not all at the one time obviously or I’d be dead but then I’d get that sleep😂😂
what works best for me is 2x 30 mg co codomol and 2x3 mg melatonin. I buy the melatonin online and I get pain relief for a back injury but only take them at night.
The treatment options for insomnia is shocking as prescribing guidelines are really strict for dependence and tolerance reasons.
My GP is sympathetic but their hands are tied and they know what I use.

The irony is I am in more danger of driving exhausted than tolerance issues.
No surprise that I’m awake tonight as I forgot to collect my co codomol prescription yesterday as the melatonin on its own is no use.

Soonenough · 11/11/2024 04:00

Long time sleep issues. Wide awake with brain whirring and have gotten into the habit of scrolling as distraction but then that isn't good for either is it . Most meds just leave me groggy next day.

TiredCatLady · 11/11/2024 04:16

Wide awake again. I’m bloody knackered. Even the cat is flat out snoring (no zoomies here).
Reasoning that I probably need to change the mattress as I think that’s part of the problem. Our second memory foam one and I regularly wake up with hip/lower back pain which isn’t the case when sleeping on pocket sprung elsewhere. It’s not the root cause but it doesn’t help.

ohyesido · 11/11/2024 04:34

Awake at 3.30 on the dot every morning. I love being up early but I'm falling asleep on the couch at 8pm every night as a consequence

Cantbreatheeasy · 11/11/2024 04:47

Been awake since 12.45 thanks to my son, have to get up at 6.15, so assume I’ll fall asleep about 5.30

Cantbreatheeasy · 11/11/2024 04:48

Oh and my son is 20 not a newborn, just really noisy going to bed 😡

stayathomer · 11/11/2024 04:50

Told myself a few days ago the least I’d do is no screens from earlier and no drinking tea after x o clock. Did I do it? Nope. I’m so fed up of an hour or so then awake. Need to start magnesium too

Flubadubba · 11/11/2024 05:07

Long term sleep issues here. Up at 3m30 every day, and issues falling asleep.

Also not helping that 5 year old DD has decided she would rather sleep in our bed. Even a super king isn't big enough to avoid her kicking and wiggling.

Chardonnay73 · 11/11/2024 05:10

Can I join? Been awake since I tried to go to sleep at 1.30, after trying to go to sleep at 11pm 🤦‍♀️ Just getting over a really nasty bout of Covid, so been in bed constantly for just shy of a week. As a consequence my sleeping pattern, not good at the best of times is completely out of whack...

rockingbird · 11/11/2024 05:16

I'm a terrible sleeper and have been awake since 4am this morning! I just want to sleep 😴 I went to bed at 11pm woke again at 2am, then 3ish and gave up around 4am! Same every night..

Squirrelsnut · 11/11/2024 05:17

I'm awake partly due to cat and partly worry about DS.
I had appalling insomnia when I started peri and only HRT and antidepressants saved me.
(I have 10mg melatonin tablets too, and they'd knock out a bison)
