I am meant to be sleeping but my three delightful guinea pigs are trashing the joint! Do they have to tear cardboard with their teeth so loudly? 😁😁 it's a good job that they're cute and I adore them!

So why are YOU up?

I normally get up really early 3-4 am but the police knocked on my door about an incident that has happened with my upstairs neighbour an hour ago. I am just up for the day now!

I have no idea what has happened as I didn't hear or see anything. I heard some noise from upstairs at 11 that woke me up but that's not out of the ordinary, certainly nothing alarming sounding. I just went back to sleep until they knocked and woke me up.

@Vates oh, how strange. My nose would be bothering me so much, I'm terrible that way especially if police needed to be involved. Hope neighbors are OK.

WickWood · 07/11/2024 03:23

Up with my 4 week old baby, like a few others. My eye bags have eye bags!

OnNaturesCourse · 07/11/2024 03:26

@WickWood what a wonderful reason to have eyebags ❤️ enjoy the snuggles but I do hope you get rest again soon.

TerrorAustralis · 07/11/2024 03:27

It’s late morning where I am. I don’t have work to do today, so I’m procrastinating online instead of doing housework.

Starseeking · 07/11/2024 03:28

Thanks @InsomniaBites. I don't feel stressed, but perhaps that's what it is.

I work at Director level, and things are pretty busy at work. Two thirds of the people who report in to me are new, so I find myself doing more of what they should be doing, so as not to overwhelm them as new joiners.

Had a big project landed on me by the Board, which I have no resources to deliver other than by me, plus I have the day to day demands of my actual business area (I run a team of 30 people fundamental to the company) to contend with.

Any suggestions for combatting stress?

RosieLeaLovesTea · 07/11/2024 03:30

I am in a country 8 hrs a head if you. It’s 11.28am here. I have just done some hill
walkong for 1.5 hrs and now having some brunch. Warm and sunny here.

Lovelyone1 · 07/11/2024 03:31

My periods just started...waiting for paracetamol to kick in

nchnchnchnhhh · 07/11/2024 03:34

Insomnia. Have researched skin care. Waiting to feel tired but my body clock is a bit of a mess. Will have to intervene after today and force myself into earlier nights. Shame as I love the wee hours!

Phphion · 07/11/2024 03:39

People up the road have captured a burglar who broke into their house and I was woken by the commotion.

InsomniaBites · 07/11/2024 03:48

@starseeking that's a huge amount to deal with - especially being handed a project on top. Is there anyone in your team you can lean on a bit more than usual? Or someone looking for a stretch goal you could pass things to? Although I realise you've likely already done this.

On the stress front, just the usual stuff really. My regular approach with stress is to list things in each circle of control and try to focus on small steps with the things I can change. It's not working so well right now as most things are in the 'can't control' bit. I'm also trying to remind myself that good enough will do and I don't need to beat myself up if it isn't perfect.

I really hope your day goes OK, despite the lack of sleep.

TwinklyNight · 07/11/2024 03:51

Differant time zone , currently 10:51 pm here.

Thanks for the advice @InsomniaBites, I hope you have a good day too, and hopefully we're not both back here tomorrow night 🤣🤣🤣

We have chicks coming in to the farm at 7 :) 7000 of the little fluffy things

Openmouthinsertfood · 07/11/2024 04:07

Insomnia coupled with noisy neighbours that didn't pipe down until 2am.

Vates · 07/11/2024 04:09

@OnNaturesCourse I hope they're ok too. The police showed me a photo and asked if I could identify that as my male neighbour but I honestly couldn't (not sure if it was just a bad photo!). The only odd thing is a woman moved in with my neighbour months ago and I have never seen her, not once in all that time. I have heard a female voice upstairs now and then.

Somebody has been up and down the stairs and I have heard the front/entrance door we share opened and closed multiple times since the police left. Could hear people talking outside but nobody sounds in distress or trouble. Genuinely no idea what's happened!

Friendofdennis · 07/11/2024 04:25

I have been trying to get to sleep since 11pm but I am too worried about some major life events. Trying to sell my house. Going through a tribunal. Close family member has terminal cancer. Wish I could switch off from it all

DrRichardWebber · 07/11/2024 04:34

I’ve got a horrible cold and can’t sleep. I’ve taken some meds but it’s not enough. Hopefully no-one else in the family gets it.

I love these night time threads.

Alwaystired2023 · 07/11/2024 04:38

Also love the nighttime threads, comforting to know others are up. Sorry to those with poorly partners, and those feeling unwell themselves x and hope the work stressed find some relief, I hate that feeling just not enough time and so much work to think about let alone do.

I'm in the baby camp - 4 month old on my chest, other DC in bed next to me - the best feeling

Itoldyousoo · 07/11/2024 04:39

Different time zone. I'm on holiday.

thepinkcow · 07/11/2024 04:39

Neighbours car alarm is going off for the 5th time tonight and woke my 18 mo at 3 so we've been up since then. No doubt she'll fall back asleep just as we need to get up for the school run.

timetodecide2345 · 07/11/2024 04:40

Pure insomnia. Stopped my HRT last month and this is one of the downsides. Been awake since 1am and will need to get up at 6. Another day ruined by lack of sleep!

OAPapparently · 07/11/2024 04:57

My brain seems to like to wake me up to remind me of everything I am getting wrong in great detail and how disasterous it all is.
A heady mix of anxiety and insomnia.

MrsPeregrine · 07/11/2024 05:10

Crippling anxiety relating to work. I’ve been overloaded for years and being given too much which means I’m constantly letting people down. Team members not doing their fair share which mean I’m having to pick up the slack all the time. I’ve tried looking for another job but I can’t afford to live on less than I am paid at the moment and anything I do see that would be suitable is too far away and requires at least some time in the office so wouldn’t be practical. I have two beautiful children and a lovely husband and they are the only reason I keep going. I feel so miserable inside and can’t see an end to this. I feel so alone and hopeless.

VelvetUnderwear · 07/11/2024 11:10

@Hillrunning that seems a good course of action. I will be thinking of you Flowers

@MrsPeregrine that sounds horrendous. Is there anyone you can reach out to in real life about this? I know it's a cliche to suggest GP or Samaritans, but it may help you feel less alone? Thinking of you too. Flowers

Too much on my mind. I can fall asleep really easily but if I wake in the night I can be awake for hours. Making lists, worrying...
