I have been through similar and had to make some very hard decisions for my loved one in order that their suffering was not needlessly extended. I really want people in that situation to be allowed to die.
But I am still on the fence because of the concerns my DH has expressed (he has a neurological condition which is degenerative, a type of MND).
It is so difficult.
I'll helpfully share those splinters because I 100% agree with this and I'm in the same situation.
I watched my mum die of cancer and I'm glad she was as pain free as possible and extremely well cared for in a hospice but I think at a certain point assisted dying can be a godsend for sufferers. But I have major questions about competence to make that decision when you're so ill iyswim?
But my ds also has a degenerative neurological condition which is a cousin to MND. His won't affect breathing etc and shouldn't make him really ill. There's no evidence of that other than him losing his mobility. But I wouldn't want it to become something that disproportionately affected disabled people - eg flu would likely affect him more badly and I wouldn't want him treated differently to someone not disabled because of this bill.
It's certainly a worthy debate but it is one that constantly raises more questions.
