Husband moving abroad, us staying here - what will it be like?

My husband has been offered a job abroad to be away for 1-2 years. We came back from living abroad (in a different country) a year ago and I have no interest in going back out. He's got a well paid job here…but has been offered a job that’s 5x his current salary out there. We've been happily married for years and have an 8 year old son. I can appreciate the life changes that that amount of money can bring, but I feel like he’s choosing money over our life / our child / me. Am I being melodramatic? Would love to hear from others whose partners have done similar and how they found it. I’m pretty capable but we don’t have parents or a network of friends particularly close by - I wfh full time. It just feels so weird / wrong to me to be married but I’m doing all the boring juggling while he gets to live what feels like a single man lifestyle?! Or should I just appreciate / enjoy the money and suck it up?!

His salary would be equivalent to getting paid £400k in the UK…an eye watering amount I just can’t really comprehend.

Thing is OP, he’d be paying for 2 homes out of it - unless it also has an ExPat package on top.
The US is bloody expensive too, so it will not be like earning 400k here.

If you have investment be aware that the IRS want you to hold them in a format that satisfies their tax regime. ISA’s and collective investments are not recognised.

I grew up in an ex pat community. Most people who did this divorced.

Agree. Although I also know plenty who just accept infidelity, as long as it's relatively discreet (what happens offshore stays offshore), and essentially single parenthood for the sake of the money.

Some who had not great marriages when they lived together are even happier with this setup.

I've been the one working away while my husband does all the child stuff at home. We would leave the ipad on video call while we were pootling around in our respective locations. It made everything feel closer and a bit more normal.

I know several people whose partners work abroad and have made it work - it is hard though. As much as you say he's choosing money and lifestyle over family, you also have chosen not to go, so he may view this as you are choosing a lifestyle here over you and DC being with him. It's very hard to refuse a job over that's even double your salary let alone five times.
