Any one else with a favourite song from the nineties that no one else remembers?

Mine is Operaa House by Malcolm McLaren. I spent many a happy hour being driven through New Zealand as a kid torturing my parents by singing along to this and Aria on Air but no one I’ve meet seems to know of it. Still absolutely adore it as an adult but sadly no better at singing it.

Stars by Dubstar. Jo Whiley played it recently and I hadn't heard it for nearly 30 years!! Remembered every word

Also Into Your Arms by the Lemonheads

One Way by the Levellers

What you all need to do is ask Alexa to play songs from any random year and enjoy!!! I've rediscovered a fair few songs this way...

Into your arms 😭😭😭

I've got two;

Massive Attack - Unfinished Sympathy

Alanis Morrisette - You Oughta Know.

Both brilliant songs.

Unfinished Symphony - 84 million views on YouTube

Oughta Know - 86 million views on YouTube

LOVED Atlantic252. I’m 16, on my tractor on my Dads farm in 1996 on a Sunday night listening to Graham Torrington’s late night love.

I am 23 and decorating my first house - just the words Atlantic 252 make me think of white emulsion!

St Swithin's Day by Dubstar. Walked around Oxford with my Walkman in listening to them.

I love the Disgraceful album in general by Dubstar, though my favourites are Stars and Elevator Song.

@RichardOsmansFreakishlyBigHand St Etienne! Who do you think you are, Hobart Paving, Hug My Soul. Awesome. Gary Davies used to play Join our Club all the time on Radio 1. Happy memories.
Also Mrs Robinson, The Lemonheads. I’ve no idea why I’ve connected those two bands😂

Love Hobart paving! This is the greatest thread ever ❤️

I’ve had one in my head for years and I can’t remember the title or artist - it’s infuriating!

I’ve tried searching the lyrics and singing it to friends but no one can remember it.

Do you remember this?

We were put upon this planet
to love and help each other
at least I think that’s the way god planned it
why then hurt your brother?

we come from earth
sister or brother
we come from earth
whatever colour

@DCIGeneHunt I can only find one reference to it online and it's the singer talking about it. Her name's Linda and it was her first song apparently. Not particularly helpful!

Car Crash - Candyskins
The Way I Feel - The Lemon Trees

Do you know what I loved about the 90s that we just don’t seem to have anymore - strong female-led bands. Not pop acts, but proper bands. Like Skunk Anansie, Garbage, Elastica, The Cranberries, PJ Harvey, Sleeper, Catatonia, Echobelly, etc.

L7 pretend that we're dead performed naked on the word 😱

Loved Semisonic back in the day, especially the lyrics to Singing in my Sleep.

My first boyfriend put that song and Closing Time onto a mix tape for me. Happy snogging memories!

Don’t know it but google is now my lifesaver you hum and it picks up and gives you the song google how to do this. I seriously now find songs now for playing by this method when I have got it in my head and can’t think of title or artist

One of L7 reportedly threw her tampon into the audience at a gig.

RichardOsmansFreakishlyBigHand · 01/11/2024 22:39

I know the Stereophonics were huge but you never hear of their 1st album these days. Word Gets Around is one of those rare albums where every track is brilliant. Def one to add to your playlists.

Birdhouse in Your Soul by They Might be Giants. Saw them in 1990 when it came out and am seeing them again the week after next in Manchester. Everyone I have told about the gig has never heard of them! Shocked.

Loved this song. I remember the words!

Their follow up single was Istanbul not Constantinople, why did Constantinople get the works? That's no-one's business but the Turks.

KungFuFriday · 01/11/2024 22:41

So many great songs mentioned already. I also loved listening to Atlantic 252.
Does anyone remember To Be With You by Mr Big? And Everything About You by Ugly Kid Joe? Baby I Love Your Way by Big Mountain is another good one.
Great thread!

I'm not aware of this one but I do remember he did House of the Blue Danube which I still have on my iPod.

How Bizarre by OMC

Surely everyone knows this song, it's a 90's classic

Specksofwhiteallaround · 01/11/2024 22:42

Does anyone remember Crash Test Dummies? They sang Mmm Mmm Mmm (imaginative title…) and God Shuffled His Feet. I’m beginning to wonder if I was in some kind of musical vacuum in NZ, so few people I know remember the same songs as me. My own husband reckons the only band I listened to was Crowded House. Although I am a huge fan so kinda proving him right….

That Mmm Mmm Mmm song used be played during the slow set at my local nightclub in Ireland 😂
