Any one else with a favourite song from the nineties that no one else remembers?

Mine is Operaa House by Malcolm McLaren. I spent many a happy hour being driven through New Zealand as a kid torturing my parents by singing along to this and Aria on Air but no one I’ve meet seems to know of it. Still absolutely adore it as an adult but sadly no better at singing it.

What do you want from me by Monaco love this song

CocteauTwin · 01/11/2024 21:30

Great thread! I'm a bit older so my time was the 80s, and one mentioned further upthread, Alice by Sisters of Mercy, is from 1982. I used to dance to it in goth clubs around that time.

Some really good picks already, but not mentioned yet is Cannonball by The Breeders. I loved it then and I love it still.

Roxette - Paint. I am only 29 but I grew up with my Mum listening to their albums, and sadly not one of my friends knows any of their songs apart from 'It must've been love'. Breaks my heart. Such an underrated band.

Edited

Roxette were the first band I saw live. Their album Tourism was my favourite. She had an amazing vocal range.

User135644 · 01/11/2024 21:31

Wilson Phillips - Hold on (another girl band)

AmytheDancingBrick · 01/11/2024 21:32

(Will nobody save) Louise by The Man from Delmonte - I’ve not listened to it for years.

Specksofwhiteallaround · 01/11/2024 21:32

@TheYearOfSmallThings Love One and One, I was so sad when Robert Miles passed away 😔

Birdhouse in Your Soul by They Might be Giants. Saw them in 1990 when it came out and am seeing them again the week after next in Manchester. Everyone I have told about the gig has never heard of them! Shocked.

I came on to say the same, my absolute favourite song

Thinking About Your Love - Kenny Thomas

Fantastic song ,off to YouTube.....💃

Specksofwhiteallaround · 01/11/2024 21:36

@CocteauTwin I like Temple of Love by The Sisters of Mercy, maybe I need to look up more of their songs.
Got a lot of new songs to listen to tomorrow from this thread and a lot of ones I’d forgotten to enjoy again.

Walkaway by Cast.

I was listening to that in my support worker's car yesterday!
Had completely forgotten about Dear Jessie. Just played it and my brain still knew all the words.

Re Wilson Phillips, I don't see them as a girl band but as extensions of their more famous parents from The Beach Boys and Mamas and Papas.

Alisha's Attic are Brian Poole's daughters from the Tremeloes, and Chesney Hawkes' father is also in the same band. Wonder whether they hungn out with each other?

Stars by Dubstar. Jo Whiley played it recently and I hadn't heard it for nearly 30 years!! Remembered every word

Also Into Your Arms by the Lemonheads

One Way by the Levellers

What you all need to do is ask Alexa to play songs from any random year and enjoy!!! I've rediscovered a fair few songs this way...

Oh I loved the Levellers! I saw them live several times… i had t-shirts and all their albums ofcourse. They still tour , but they look so old. I am just afraid it won’t be the same as it was back then.

xsquared · 01/11/2024 21:43

Songs that are not played so much on the radio today that I loved as a teen:

Oh Yeah! - Ash
Secret Garden - Bruce Springsteen
Stay - Lisa Loeb
Sunshine on a rainy day - Zoe

Dyra · 01/11/2024 21:45

On a night shift with nothing to do but add a load of these little hits of nostalgia to my Spotify playlist. Thank you everyone!

I Am I Feel was a good forgotten tune by Alisha's Attic.

Tigresswoods · 01/11/2024 21:48

You are my people.

Anyone fancy a bit of Stripper Vicar?

My phone decided to randomly play placebo Nancy Boy the other day what a tuuuuune!

Kula Shaker. Where is Crispin Mills now. I'm off to fall down a wiki hole.

Dollybantree · 01/11/2024 21:49

Close to you - Maxi Priest
Flying - Cast
Youre History - Shakespeare Sister (my favourite breakup song along with Yes- McAlmont & Butler) - must be played at full blast!

RockahulaRocks · 01/11/2024 21:50

He’s on the phone by St Etienne. DD is 4 and obsessed with ye olde phone boxes, and every time she dashes into one, I always find myself humming “yes, ooh ooh, she never meant to call, she did anyway…”

I went to see Shakespeare's Sister back in 2019 and they were brilliant. They finished the gig with You're History.

RichardOsmansFreakishlyBigHand · 01/11/2024 21:51

Duke - So in Love With You

Dollybantree · 01/11/2024 21:51

Oh and another one : Trash - Suede
I saw Brett Anderson at Isle of Whyte in the summer and he was fantastic.

Drinkdrinkduuurink · 01/11/2024 21:51

Saturday evening (around 5pm?), ITV, Baywatch end credits, wonderful duet (not heard since) of the Hoff and Laura Branigan.
