There's only one floating pile of garbage in this story and it lives in Mar a Lago.

To Kamala Harris and all the other Democratic candidates on the ballot - May your courage, determination and hard work bring you the success you deserve. ❤️
To Donald (Jessica) Trump - May you get everything you deserve... and then some.

Yeah fuck democracy, who needs it?

Your ds's map is great @prettybird. But also made me gulp. Can't believe the day is finally here. 😟

An exit poll released by our US partner network NBC News shows voters are most concerned about democracy and the economy.
Democracy ranked most important, with 35% of voters saying it was the top issue informing their vote.
The economy followed with 31%.
Trailing behind them was abortion (14%) and immigration (11%), while just 4% named foreign policy as the most important issue.
However, among women, abortion was most important for 19%, compared to 8% of men.
Harris and Trump supporters were sharply divided on which issues were of greatest concern.
Half of Harris voters named the state of democracy as their top priority, followed by abortion (21%) and the economy (13%).
By contrast, a majority of Trump supporters said the economy was their biggest concern, ahead of immigration (20%) and democracy (12%).

I can’t work out if this is good or bad for Kamala?

Notonthestairs · 05/11/2024 22:18

"I can’t work out if this is good or bad for Kamala?"

Neither can I!

I suppose it shows that abortion is a big issue, but only really for women, men are significantly less interested in reproductive rights. So while the women are coming out in force for Harris, partly as a result of this, men are less bothered, but everybody is interested in the economy, and fortunately democracy for the most part.

After being so confident for days, I'm starting to get a bad feeling...

Wallaw · 05/11/2024 22:21

Honestly, these exit polls are mostly a way for media to feel relevant right now. Don't read too much into them, positive or negative. You'd need to know way more than we do about methodology to interpret anything from them.

Amusingly, Trump has been smacked down by the Philadelphia police department

I get the impression there are 5 choices and you can only pick one. So state of democracy might be their key issue but it doesn’t mean reproductive rights aren’t also important to them.

letsallchant · 05/11/2024 22:24

I see democracy being the top priority as good for Harris. Trump is the one who's been making overt threats to it, after all
🤞

@boatyardblues - the cushion was a Christmas present from us with a picture of our two boys, so that he and his girlfriend could still cuddle up to them, as they've moved out into their own place a few months before.

It was a brilliant idea for a present, even if I say so myself WinkHalo

Completely! I’m going to steal it for DS1 who is at uni & missing our cat. 😄

prettybird · 05/11/2024 22:32

Got it via Tesco.com - it was amazingly simple to do and not expensive Smile

isteppedintoanavalanche · 05/11/2024 22:36

My hopeful heart says that the exit polls favour KH. On the hand, I'm barely hanging onto any optimism.

isteppedintoanavalanche · 05/11/2024 22:36

*other hand

TokyoSushi · 05/11/2024 22:39

So, I think I'm going to go to bed and set an alarm for 4am, and have a look at what's happening then...

Igotjelly · 05/11/2024 22:41

Reports of high levels of Puerto Rican turn out in Pennsylvania which is good!

CaveMum · 05/11/2024 22:45

Right, I’m going to bed. Up at 5.30 to go for a run so I’ll check in with you all then. Stay sane folks!

BustingBaoBun · 05/11/2024 22:47

Yes I need sleep....well, some anyway!

Maybe catch up at some ungodly hour...

BruceAndNosh · 05/11/2024 22:47

What time will we run out of thread? 😁

Depending on the time, and the state of the results my suggestions for new thread titles are...
a) Oh fuck, it's Trump!
b) Holy fuck, it's Harris!
c) what the fuck, it's mayhem!

The orange one is already tweeting about cheating in Philadelphia

Doesn’t exactly scream confident does it!?

DuncinToffee · 05/11/2024 23:01

Just now on CNN, statement from Philly authorities:

we are in constant communication with the RNC, there are no issues, we have no idea to what he is referring

BruceAndNosh · 05/11/2024 23:03

Seth Bluestein, a Republican Philadelphia city commissioner, called Donald Trump’s claim of “cheating” in the city “disinformation”, and said the vote so far has been “safe and secure”
