I couldn't find a thread on today's budget. Anyone watching live?

I have actually been quite impressed with her delivery despite all the heckling which must be so distracting.

So every employee will cost 100s of pounds more. How grim

Not for small businesses many won’t pay more as she just said

Phineyj · 30/10/2024 13:10

Can't possibly be an improvement to public services. Too much increase of costs to do that. Maybe standstill and minor reduction in health waits.

Hopefully fix a few school buildings at least.

Augustus40 · 30/10/2024 13:10

Good news for petrol prices.

TheyAllFloatDownHere · 30/10/2024 13:10

From the BBC's live commentary: "The cost of government borrowing fell after the chancellor promised to balance the books early, with the OBR forecasting that the government would spend less than it gathers in tax by 2027."

Shakeoffyourchains · 30/10/2024 13:10

So despite all that frothing and doom mongering CGT will still be the lowest out of the G7 members.

Does that mean the UK can expect to see an influx of German, American, Japanese, etc millionaires and billionaires now?

lollylo · 30/10/2024 13:10

For the last 40 years no political party has been able to win in the U.K. if they say they will raise direct income taxation. I’d just rather pay a bit more tax to be honest. So we have all these convoluted methods to raise more tax. Tories had the highest postwar tax revenues due to freezing income tax thresholds.

AdoraBell · 30/10/2024 13:10

Not watching here, can’t stand the behaviour of apparently adults.

shockeditellyou · 30/10/2024 13:10

She’s quite impressive to be fair.

Direct access to bank accounts!!! Slippery slope

What was this point? Haven't been able to tune in!

TheyAllFloatDownHere · 30/10/2024 13:11

Sensible changes to the business/agrig limits I think.

MuchuseasaChocolateTeapot · 30/10/2024 13:11

After 35 years of working we have finally got some money behind us and thinking of estate planning. As my son said, “you mean they even tax you when you’re dead”. Yes son, yes. Despite paying income tax, capital gains tax, tax on savings, VAT, road tax, council tax, etc etc etc, they still come for you after you’re dead. At 40% potentially.

FastBeater · 30/10/2024 13:11

dnac · 30/10/2024 12:51

Hard to follow as she keeps tripping over her words

She's actually a very assured speaker; she's just not a robot.

Out of interest, how much income tax do you currently pay per year as a % of your income?

Lifelover16 · 30/10/2024 13:12

Her delivery is a little stilted I agree, but I think she’s done well given the baying crowd.

Stops people hoarding all of the money.

This has been talked about for years, nothing new.

Houseplanter · 30/10/2024 13:12

She really is rude. So smug.

It is like a bad cover lesson but think she is doing well.

Thingamebobwotsit · 30/10/2024 13:13

How many people criticising the delivery style have watched previous budgets? She is livelier than most!

TheyAllFloatDownHere · 30/10/2024 13:13

Oh no - she's going to tax my private jet 😂

(I don't have one)

No she’s not you r obviously biased I think she’s sounding great I am listening on the radio

SallyForf · 30/10/2024 13:13

Private jet tax, really!

Houseplanter · 30/10/2024 13:12

She’s delivering the most momentous budget in years, and the first by a woman. She’s doing a great job of pointing out Tory crap.

Same, not watching, but assuming it's the suggestion made months ago, to violate dignity of vulnerable people on benefits.

And somehow I suspect that the recipients of the most generous taxpayer benefits (MPs) won't be included.
