What's good at Aldi?

We've just had a shiny new one open near us and I fancy a mooch. Never been an Aldi shopper before as I like my shopping delivered, but I've got a bit more time to shop now. Tell me what's good to buy from there.

Nothing?!

Everything!

Chemenger · 30/10/2024 10:54

Pretty much everything is at least OK. The chocolate is very nice, and the posh crisps are good too.

LoobyDoop2 · 30/10/2024 10:55

The Unearthed wine range has some really good ones. And Freeman’s Bay sauvignon blanc is brilliant and less than £7.
Do NOT be tempted by the low alcohol rose. I realise that probably goes without saying, but omg. I couldn’t even finish one glass, it was exactly like faintly alcoholic strawberry ribena. Set my teeth on edge.

Grumpyoldblonde · 30/10/2024 10:55

Chocolate, wine, the posher sausages, cheese. Just about everything is ok to very good.

NeedthatFridayfeeling · 30/10/2024 10:55

I like the specially select jar curry sauces for when i can't be bothered to make from scratch, sweet chilli frozen pizza is good, lots of topping, specially select instant coffee, their Christmas decs 😀fizzy worm sweets, the chocolate, toastie loaf, their own fajita kit, their filter milk, gouda cheese slices, husband and daughter love the duck legs and venison steaks when they have them

GroovyChick87 · 30/10/2024 10:56

They have a good selection of wine. The chocolate is good. The coconut scented laundry liquid.

Chemenger · 30/10/2024 10:56

The cans of Italian lemonade are very nice.

TBH, these threads always have conflicting recommendations/things to avoid. It's best to go and try things and see which ones are to your personal taste.

I've loved things which other people say are horrible and vice versa.

NeedthatFridayfeeling · 30/10/2024 10:57

Wine!
Irish cream, the £7.99 bottle, the flavoured Ballycastle (love the chocolate clementine and the white choc)
The port/cream sherry/dark rum/austins/gin

FeedMeBrunch · 30/10/2024 10:57

This. Just buy what you need and anything you want to try.

Whatnextaaaahhh · 30/10/2024 11:07

Everything except for kitchen spray, washing powder/liquid and tampons.

FrenchandSaunders · 30/10/2024 11:08

They have some fab wines at very reasonable prices.

Brananan · 30/10/2024 11:09

It's cheap. That's about it.

wizzler · 30/10/2024 11:12

The diffusers that smell like Jo Malone ones

aveenobambino · 30/10/2024 11:13

Camembert with honey and chilli glaze
Caramelised onion sausages
Their knock off dominos pizza dip
The candy floss grapes
Their face scrub
Fancy knock off jo malone soap
Colgate toothpaste is still £1 there!
Their recyclable paper bags of oats and different nuts
Their baked beans got rave reviews on Which this year
They do special posh Xmas crisps eg pigs in blanket flavour- very good

SeaBaseAlpha · 30/10/2024 11:13

I always buy my steak there, it's far better quality than any other supermarket in my opinion (although for the first time ever I did get a ropey bit on my last shop so maybe the quality is starting to slip? DH's from the same pack was lovely though 😒)

DH also prefers their 'posh' ice creams to Ben and Jerry's.

They are NOT good for anything bakery related in my opinion.

YaB · 30/10/2024 11:14

The beef roasting joint is the business! It’s fool proof as you just chuck it in the oven and it comes out lovely and tender every time. A friend of mine recommended it to me as her BIL was a chef and that’s where he got his roast beef from.

I do my main shop at Aldi because I feel it’s better value for money. Kitchen roll, toilet roll, sugar, rice, I mean who can tell the difference between those items from there and somewhere else?! We’ve all got out favourite items from different shops/companies: I do use other supermarkets too but the bulk of my shopping is from Aldi.

There are too many items to list that I think are great.

Theredfoxfliesatmidnight · 30/10/2024 11:15

It's all good to very good in my opinion!

I like
The £1.99 tubs of ice cream (they also have high protein ones if you like that)
The Moser Roth chocolate which is the best around - much better than Cadbury and the like
The Hotel Collection candles and hand cream (I like the No. 1 scent but of course part of the fun is having a sniff and choosing your own!)
Carlos pizzas
I like the ready meals - they're all half the price of anywhere else and they're really lovely in my opnion. The copy Nandos bowl (peri peri chicken) is good. I find the meat portions are more generous in Aldi ready meals than others.

Have fun looking around!

Cuppachuchu · 30/10/2024 11:19

I don't regularly shop there but got a couple of bottles of very nice malbec there(cahors, got a round stained glass window on label) on friends recommendation amongst other things, chocolate, obviously 😁

Anisty · 30/10/2024 11:22

Groovy bars!!!! Pink box in the biscuit aisle. Great for adults with a sweet tooth, though clearly marketed for kids. Kids love them too.

I am in Scotland and the beef joints in Scottish stores are Aberdeen Angus. Absolutely incredible taste. Pop a full joint in your slow cooker and 5 hours later, hey presto! Excellent quality.

Everything is great. The only 2 products i don't like is their version of muller corner yogurts (with the crunchy balls in one half)

They used to be fine but lately the yogurt splits and there's just a horrid looking watery stuff on the yogurt that doesn't even stir in well. Turns the stomach.

And their cheapest bleach is like water (consistancy of water) i pay a bit more for the thicker one in the grey container. The yellow container is not good.

buffyspikefaith · 30/10/2024 11:24

Salted caramel yoghurts
Specially selected pizza
Lemon curd iced buns
flatbreads
Chocolate
San pellegrino orange dupe
Lemon Fanta dupe

I do my main shop there and haven't found anything I really didn't like
