Changing to google pixel from iPhone

teacoffeeorpassthegin · 30/10/2024 06:18

Would I be making a stupid mistake?

I have an iPhone 11- it doesn't have enough storage and I'm just fed up with it.

I've been looking at the pixel 9 and with trade in I can get it for £650 which seems a good deal!

Awful idea. Just don’t.

Rafting2022 · 30/10/2024 06:21

You’ll regret it instantly just get a better iPhone.

SweetBobby · 30/10/2024 06:22

You'll never look back and wonder why you didn't do it sooner.

Oh ok!

It's so much money to buy a better iPhone! That's why I was looking to deviate!

I have a Google Pixel - amazing phone. And charges completely in about 20 minutes.

This 👆

I got shot of my iPhone some years ago. There's a reason why iphones are not the most popular phones. There's so much more you can do. I went to Samsung, but the Google Pixels do look great.

TheSeagullsSquawk · 30/10/2024 06:32

I have a pixel 8. Previously I've always had Samsungs I was tempted by the commitment to years of updates. I do prefer the Samsungs - pixel phone is ironically annoying to use camera - it's 3 clicks to turn flash on and battery life is shoddy. I get just a day (16 hours) out of it

But you know it's fine. I think all smart phones are pretty good now so like you I think I'd put up with having to learn slightly different ways of doing things (how to set up home screen - what sends you back a page etc). In order to save money and spend it on something else.

CookieMonster28 · 30/10/2024 06:39

I have Google pixel 8
Best phone I've had
Camera is amazing

Never been an iPhone fan though!

friskybivalves · 30/10/2024 06:59

Hated my pixel. With a passion. Had had it a week and was already minded to turf it in. I then dropped it onto my own foot - ie a softish landing - abd the screen smashed. Awful thing. Samsung are a far easier transition from iPhone. Believe me!

Zampa · 30/10/2024 07:01

I have an iPhone for work and a personal Pixel. Hate the iPhone, love my Pixel (have had one for a number of iterations).

Android is vastly superior imo but I think it mostly depends on what you're used to.

NormalAuntFanny · 30/10/2024 07:02

We are a divided household here, apart from the apple watch which is great, the iphone itself including camera is less good than the pixel - things like translation and song recognition are remarkably worse on iPhone.

summer555 · 30/10/2024 07:07

I have a Google Pixel Pro 8. It's very good and the battery life is the best I've had on any phone.

My husband works for one of the big telecoms companies so we've had a variety of free phones over the years - iPhones, Samsungs, Google, Nothing, Oppo, Huawei. Genuinely, they're all pretty much the same.

iPhones are fine but I'm amused at the premium people are prepared to pay for what's essentially phone snobbery. I think Apple also trade on the incompatibility issue but it's really not a big deal to change to an Android phone.

My favourite is probably Samsung but I'd buy a refurbed one from GiffGaff as it's better value for money. I used to drop my Samsungs almost daily and the screens never broke which is a big advantage over iPhones (my friends regularly have cracked iPhones).

CaptainSeven · 30/10/2024 07:14

I have an iPhone. I love their approach to privacy and tracking.

I actively avoid giving too much of my data to Google.

For this reason I'd NEVER have a Google phone (even though some of the capabilities are really tempting).

Privacy and my data are really important to me. Security too. So that's why I (unfortunately) pay a premium for fecking Apple. 🤦🏼‍♀️

babasaclover · 30/10/2024 07:23

If you get direct from apple they are doing 0% over 24 months. Just for my 16Pro it is awesome even the screen is a brighter colour

Roserunner · 30/10/2024 07:30

I have a Google pixel 6 that I've had 2 and a half years now and the battery is still going strong. I love the phone and just waiting until black Friday to see if I can get a deal on a pixel 9 pro.

Butterworths · 30/10/2024 07:31

I just switched from Apple to a pixel 8 I'm.happy with it. Very easy to transfer everything.

How do you get by without using youtube, waze, never googling anything, etc?

I know what you mean, but there isn't a way to avoid it completely, just minimise it.

WishingForTheImpossible · 30/10/2024 07:36

I've got the pixel fold, but had pixels near enough since they launched - I can't imagine going to anything else as it's all so logical and simple. I get ridiculously frustrated using my husbands honour android so I do think people's references are less about what's better and more what works for them and is familiar

If you change you'll have a period of adjustment, doesn't mean it's better or worse it's just something to get used to

Nasyan · 30/10/2024 07:38

When I look at what trackers have been prevented on Safari the top one is Google, no surprise there

CaptainSeven · 30/10/2024 07:42

@HappiestSleeping I don't really use YouTube and I've never heard of waze!

I don't have a personal login for Google and when I use it I block tracking etc. I tend to use Firefox as a browser which is more private.

I know I can't avoid it completely but I do what I can to minimise ANY company having my data.

Having a Google phone would give them so much data it's unbelievable. So not having a Google phone is an easy way to avoid giving them data. I loved my Fitbit but got rid when they were bought by Google.

I appreciate the Apple approach to privacy.

Hannahthepink · 30/10/2024 07:42

My husband switched from iPhone to Pixel about two years ago, he loves it, especially the camera and the battery life. I'm definitely considering switching too when I next upgrade.
We're much more of a Google family though in terms of everything else in our lives so it makes more sense for us than if you're fully tied into Apple products overall.

Nasyan · 30/10/2024 07:46

All my product are Apple but DH uses an Android Motorola phone and Microsoft but his phone seems to be run by Google

Maddy70 · 30/10/2024 07:49

Anything is better than an i phone. Honestky. When you make the switch you'll realise why. Battery. Life, storage options, felixibilty

itsgettingweird · 30/10/2024 07:51

My ds and I had iPhones.

He got a google phone and couldn't understand why I stuck with iPhone. Think it's because we also have iPads and so pictures etc all link?

My nephews phone wouldn't work and he was waiting for my sisters upgrade (to a google phone) so borrowed ds old google phone (he's recently upgraded from a 4 to a 7).

My ds said he'd love it and never give it back!

Day 2 he was still having my sister old iPhone.

Day 4 - yep - that phone ain't coming back 😂

I have an old iPhone 7s. Seriously considering upgrading to a google phone but if it's a newer model to ds swapping as hell use far more of the features but I feel that the google phone love does actually mean something.

Only thing stopping me right now is the fact my iPhone is fine and I'm sim only on it - so it'll be more expensive. The thing persuading me right now is the fact I've just had a pay rise ☺️
