Where in London can I buy shoes for DS - size 48 feet

My lovely, enormous DS has size 48 feet (I suspect his feet are still growing) and we are really struggling to find shoes for him. We order trainers and sports shoes online but, as he really wants a pair of proper shoes, I want to find a shop where he can try some on and therein lies the problem - we cannot find any shops that have a selection of size 48 shoes in stock. We are going to London soon and I was hoping that there will be somewhere that stocks shoes for big feet. Do any lovely mumsnetters know of anywhere?

What size is this in UK sizing? How old is he?

showmethegin · 29/10/2024 21:19

Is that a size 15?

Zimniy · 29/10/2024 21:25

Sorry, it's a 12.5 / 13 depending on the style.

Slater menswear do size 13.
But not many other places.

My son is a size 14. It's a nightmare.

Zimniy · 29/10/2024 21:39

Oh no! I was hoping that London would have a shop we could go to. Have you ever considered having shoes made? We're seriously considering it when we're sure his feet have stopped growing.

Hi, my husband takes size 50 extra wide (H) which used to be a nightmare, but no problem since we found this German supplier: www.schuhplus.com/. Orders arrive within 48 hours fully tracked, and the quality is excellent. Hope this helps!

isodontknow · 29/10/2024 21:44

DS is almost that size and I found the same. I've also always had difficulty finding size 43 for me! I order a selection online, it's the only way. I found a shop who agreed to order but only if I agreed to buy the shoe...

check the delivery, return and payment costs. I only order if I can pay on receipt (I.e. I can try, return the ones I don't want and pay for what I keep) and returns are free.

famouslastwordsagain · 29/10/2024 21:45

Isn't 48 only size 12 in UK sizing? That shouldn't be too bad to find. Clarks etc have size 12. DS is 13 or 14 which is trickier and normally have to order online.

Zimniy · 29/10/2024 21:47

Thanks for the tip - I'll pass the link onto DS.

John Lewis go up to a 13 i think as DB got his shoes from there when I got married. Not sure if they have any in stores though or if its online order only.

isodontknow · 29/10/2024 21:49

Clarks, dockers, josef Seibel, DM's, Ecco all go to size 48.

doihaveacase · 29/10/2024 21:50

My DH is size 13, it's so hard to find shoes in his size. Church's do usually have a few pairs but they are very expensive. Loake we've had some luck with as well, also pricey but not as pricey. Otherwise you could try a big department store like Selfridges and hope they have a few pairs in 13.

Ecco shoes online have some great styles in 13/48 - they're on Amazon so returns are easy.

Zimniy · 29/10/2024 21:52

According to google size 48 is 12.5 but I don't know as we've not shopped for shoes for him in the UK yet. It is however nigh on impossible to find shoes for him here - we've tried in many many shops in Germany, Austria, Belgium and the Netherlands. It's so disheartening for DS when we can't any shoes big enough or trousers long enough.

John Lewis, Next and M&S all go to a 13. However I think with regard to Next it’s online only.

Try Wide Fit Shoes Kenton Rd, NW London.

TruthThatsHardAsSteel · 29/10/2024 21:57

Jacamo used to have stores but I don't think so anymore. Might be worth looking them up online.

I've a family member size 15. 😭

shellyleppard · 29/10/2024 22:26

Ziminy my son has very large feet. We used to get school shoes from deichmann or jacamo (online)

Mountainyapyap · 29/10/2024 22:34

Most stores go up to a 12 max. We have never found a physical size 13 shoe except trainers in Nike. Possibly a Chelsea boot in Slaters, but that was an outlier!

We just order shoes online - normally from Schuh - and return if they don't fit. London isn't going to be any easier to get big sizes in person - the high street stores will just be the same as they are elsewhere.

famouslastwordsagain · 29/10/2024 22:36

You could do a click and collect to Clark's or John Lewis and just try them on in store and return if needed. But I think you'll be OK with size 48 in store. We find Sports Direct sometimes has the odd pair of 49 and 50 trainers as well.
Hollister and Next do trousers for long legs- but again, usually need to order online.

HellofromJohnCraven · 29/10/2024 22:41

Not for shoes but have you tried 2tall for clothes? Lifesaver for my very long bodied dh who is also reasonably slim

Primark for trousers/ jeans. Check measurements in the shop tho on the actual trousers as label doesn't always match. TK Maxx often has bigger size shoes. My son is nearly6 ft 7 in with a size 13/14 shoe . The shoe shop named Schuh ( however you spell it ) has a few larger sized shoes too.

DS2 has had size 13s from there too but it was a few years back now (and very expensive for school shoes 😭).

Looking at Schuh, brands that go to size 13 include the brands below and they seem to have stock available for immediate pick up in the Oxford Circus branch.

  • Nike
  • converse
  • puma
  • adidas
  • CRUYFF

There are lots of shops that sell Men's shoes around Oxford Circus so I'd probably start there.

Aldo - have some size 13s online
Footlocker - Nike and Jordan brands
Adidas store

Selfridges also have several hundred men size 13 shoe options online, so hopefully will have a few available in store, though you could order them for delivery to store, collect them, try them on while he's there and return any you don5 like immediately.
