Where in London can I buy shoes for DS - size 48 feet

My lovely, enormous DS has size 48 feet (I suspect his feet are still growing) and we are really struggling to find shoes for him. We order trainers and sports shoes online but, as he really wants a pair of proper shoes, I want to find a shop where he can try some on and therein lies the problem - we cannot find any shops that have a selection of size 48 shoes in stock. We are going to London soon and I was hoping that there will be somewhere that stocks shoes for big feet. Do any lovely mumsnetters know of anywhere?

@Zimniy Try Ecco - they do bigger shoes and wide fitting. Ds has big feet and Trickers fit him

According to google size 48 is 12.5 but I don't know as we've not shopped for shoes for him in the UK yet. It is however nigh on impossible to find shoes for him here - we've tried in many many shops in Germany, Austria, Belgium and the Netherlands. It's so disheartening for DS when we can't any shoes big enough or trousers long enough.

My husband is either a uk 12 or a 48 (can’t remember which). There is a massive variation between brands in translation of eu sizes to uk sizes and vice versa. You might find he’s a 48 in some brands which is a uk 12.5 or he might be a uk 12 which can be a 47 in some brands. So if ordering online with free returns I’d order a couple of sizes. Also measure his actual foot length and look at the size chart for that brand. Good luck.

TK Maxx sometimes have big size shoes instore and like others have said Sports Direct often have them in too. There’s lots of big feet in our family, size 14, 13 and 12.5. They all buy online. It’s fiddly and takes longer than buying in store but they generally don’t have a problem finding something they like.

@Zimniy or trousers long enough. just out of interest, how long and where do you get trousers esp. joggers for him?

LostInTheColonies · 30/10/2024 06:38

Depending on your son's age & taste (!!), Converse go up to very large sizes (like 17 or something) presumably as they were originally for very tall basketball players!

Turmerictolly · 30/10/2024 06:54

Re; trousers, John Lewis and M n S I think do a 35 length leg.

Nelson.nl claim to have 1000 styles in size 48 and 1260 in 43, including Sketchers, PME, van lier, DM and Timberland. I think they'd carry at least some stock in store in a city in NL up to 45 because it's not that big for Dutch! We're a lot taller than Londoners or Germans, but you'd have to go properly into the Randstad to get big sizes rather than staying near the border or islands.

@isodontknow the joggers we get are Moonlight mansion and Vicinity for fashionable ones and Schneider for sports.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions.

Just checked. A 48 is a size 14. You're not getting a 14 on the high street in my experience

famouslastwordsagain · 30/10/2024 16:52

On the Clarks website it has 48 as 13. I've bought DS size 13 in a Clarks shop. He is a 14 in trainers and rugby boots etc so I think Clarks come up quite big.

MrsMitford3 · 30/10/2024 16:57

I have never found a shop that sells for my DS's although some of the big and tall might.
One DS a UK 13 the other a 15.

A lot of stores stock stocking at 11 although a few do stock bigger-just so few you have to get lucky. I think online your best bet.

Try zalando, adidas and walk tall. or amazon. I often just google adidas size 15 and see where it leads!

TruthThatsHardAsSteel · 30/10/2024 19:52

I've regularly bought size 15 trainers from amazon. Think when your feet are that size, there's no room to be fussy tbh. Karrimor. Sometimes sports direct do them but not always

GrandesRandonnees · 30/10/2024 19:59

Try Clarks Outlet too. My hairdresser is a 13 and he’s got shoes from there. Maybe also try Rieker as they can often order in larger sizes.

I feel his pain, I’m a 43/44 which is somewhat better served these days but as a teenager it was a nightmare to find shoes, particularly as I have narrow feet and heels.
