Dogs are everywhere?!

I took DS to a university open day today. Two separate families had brought their dog with them! Is this someone I've missed?! Why is this necessary?!

Some owners seem to be treating their pets like their babies and so are taking them everywhere they'd take their family. It's ridiculous.

I hate being around dogs; I'm absolutely terrified for one thing, they're just not clean and they jump up at me. always ask the owners to keep them away but some just laugh. 'He's only playing.' Ugh. How I loathe that excuse.

There was a woman on the bus the other day with one in a pram. 😐

Perhaps it was ill and being taken to the vet.

I’m not sure what you mean OP?

Obviously the university was welcoming these dogs or they wouldn’t have been allowed in.

So why shouldn’t they be there?

Because I assume that the university offers courses for humans, not dogs. Unless an assistance dog, what could the dog possibly contribute to the decision to study there or not?

I’m willing to bet the dog owners didn’t actually ask to bring the dogs. So many owners just assume they can take them anywhere now (and they’re generally the type of owners with dogs that can’t behave)

That’s fine, as long as you don’t inflict your furbaby on me and others like me who are sick of them.

2024onwardsandup · 27/10/2024 21:00

@AgileGreenSeal uiu can take the same approach I take to children - I politely avoid them.

Screamingabdabz · 27/10/2024 21:00

It’s when they let them sit on seats in cafes and on public transport… grim. Who wants that faecal arsehole residue and greasy dog hair on their clothes? But dogs actually aren’t the problem, it’s the selfish owners and dopey companies that allow it.

everythingisgoingup · 27/10/2024 21:00

I like dogs and children but I would not take my dog shopping to Sainsbury’s or Nike!

Dogs don't like clothes shopping it is dull, I wonder if they have not been trained to stay home alone?

I take my dog everywhere!

(except pharmacies, supermarkets etc).

good dog owners don’t leave their dogs alone for hours on end.

he’s very well behaved. And I don’t take him into places where they say no dogs.

ive always lived in dog friendly places and most shops have dog treats. He’s normally served with a bowl of water before I’m served at cafes/pubs.

lots of studies on how dogs lower humans stress….

No. Good dog owners train their dogs properly. Pick up after their dog's mess and instil confidence in their pets by maintaining healthy boundaries, not turn them into anxiety ridden fur babies that need to be taken everywhere with them.

Majority of dog owners don't understand the basic behavioural characteristics of dogs as pack animals and how they need to learn the social hierarchy to be confident and happy.

And if they increase a human's stress levels because of fear, allergies or neurological conditions, then what?

Are you new here? There’s lots of dog hating threads here already that you could’ve added this to? 1 each day I think the going rate is.

In contrast, kids are everywhere too & they can be just as annoying as dogs.

Businesses allow dogs in because it's financially a good idea. A third of British homes have dogs so if you ban dogs you're potentially keeping a third of your potential footfall away.

Liberty had a guy on TV once who said that dogs have always been allowed in the shop. He added that in his long service there he'd never known a dog disgrace itself but he couldn't say the same for the humans who shopped there.

It's clear by the responses to this thread that a lot don't have dogs and even quite a few owners like myself wouldn't dream of subjecting their dogs to the overstimulation of shops and especially food places.

With this in mind and businesses losing footfall maybe they should re-think letting dogs (and cats carried by the craziest owners of all) in.

The Liberty guy would say anything not to upset someone who clearly spends a LOT there. And I'm pretty sure he wouldn't be cleaning up any accidents.

But don't tend to shit on pavements for others to walk in or physically attack people/other dogs in public.

Nope, it was seemed to be its usual mode of transport, a custom made dog-pram. Bright pink. (The pram, not the dog).

Dogs in prams (for the majority of cases) are not being treated like a baby, it's because there are issues with the dog walking. Could be going for a vet appointment.

GeminiGiggles · 27/10/2024 21:04

I'll take woof places that make sense - think Pets at Home or the local dog food shop. Also I might stop at a cafe or pub on a long walk but sitting outside ideally as far from other people as possible but that's for me rather than anyone else 🤣

I heard The Range have recently allowed dogs. I love The Range and I love my dog but like hell do I trust her around the kitchen glassware aisles so she'll stay in the car for ten minutes in winter before I take her to Pets at Home next door!

Its the entitlement that goes with it for me. I work in a similar environment to The Range but no dogs allowed and when people walk in with them we turn them away

"well what if I put them in basket"
No
"Well what about my hand bag"
No
"The trolleys then?"
Fuck no, fuck off

goneaway2 · 27/10/2024 21:04

Given the Ops name, they should like dogs. Anyway I think it's brilliant that dogs are everywhere (apart from the horrible ones that bark at mine just because he's bigger than them).

CanalBoots · 27/10/2024 21:02

Pack animals like to be with their pack.

Packs don't tend to roam in John Lewis though. Dogs should be out in the countryside getting exercise and being animals, not fur babies in department stores or cafes where they are likely to be stressed by their surroundings.

Lanzar · 27/10/2024 21:04

monkeyblonde · 27/10/2024 19:54

I am so here for this! They are allowed in my local John Lewis, brushing past the clothes etc? I mean WTAF?

Yes I have seen this in my huge flagship out of town JL recently ... loads of them ....never seen this before....why would you drive your dog down the motorway to a shop like this - how do you try on clothes etc?

I bet the dogs hate it.

Would you buy a dog-pram for a vet appointment?
