Dogs are everywhere?!

I took DS to a university open day today. Two separate families had brought their dog with them! Is this someone I've missed?! Why is this necessary?!

If I had a phobia say of children for example, would I be reasonable in restricting others choices because of that? Or would it be sensible just to deal with my phobia? It can be done. If people choose not to access treatment and expect strangers to work around something that could be sorted then it’s unreasonable. Dogs are a part of life, and that’s not about to change.

Children are HUMANS.

They have a right to be where other humans are, unlike dogs which are ANIMALS.

I feel exhausted having to explain this.

I liked dogs but not anymore. They’re absolutely bloody everywhere and the shit is just everywhere too!!!!!

Yep, I used to like them but now can't stand them because they're constantly barking everywhere you go and at night/early morning. No manners.

It's the dogs in restaurants, cafes etc that really annoy me. Dogs should not be in places where people eat.

Seeing owners stroke and pet their dogs then picking up their sandwich 🤮

Same. It's turning me from a dog liker to a dog fuck off-er. In my area which has loads of coffee shops, bars, restaurants, they are all populated with dogs. Just no need. One specifically markets itself as 'dog friendly' but I just thought 'like everywhere else around here then 🙄'. I also live beside a big park and the amount of dogs with no adequate recall just gets worse and worse. I don't even blame the bloody dogs, it's the owners.

minsmum · 27/10/2024 20:45

I agree, my dd had asked us to meet for lunch on Christmas eve because her DH is working over Christmas. She said that she will try to find somewhere dog friendly. She can being her puppy if she wants our dog will be staying at home

It’s almost hilarious, having to explain a vulnerable human has more rights to a public human made space than a dog 😂

Fireworks used to be one night a year, now its over 4 or 5 days for bonfire night, and since the millenium, its on new years eve. They are more of a problem caused by idiot humans.

There are plenty of illegal products available to buy including fireworks.

permanently · 27/10/2024 20:46

There was one in Fenwicks last week, clothes shopping 😡

Someone nearby was letting them off last night.

I hate the constant smug look of ‘oh yes isn’t he cute’ 🤢 always when they’re doing something horrible to my pram.

HowYouSpellingThat10 · 27/10/2024 20:48

I like dogs but I think I have a mild allergy. If I come into contact with a spaniel my eyes and throat itch.

The other day one appeared in my office (with someone from another building). You can say take antihistamines but I'm at work in a non public facing office. I don't expect a bloody dog there and I think it's unfair to expect everyone to be delighted about it.

It feels unhygienic in shops. The centre in Glasgow trialled it and had to stop because of the amount of poo.

Okay an outdoor shop is Keswick I get it but taking them to a shopping centre feels cruel.

We had dogs as kids. They were not carried about like humans. They were treated as dogs and taken places appropriate to dogs.

I blame stretchy leads for the lack of control.

@AgileGreenSeal were not talking about vulnerable humans though - we’re talking about cafes and other public spaces.

i don’t think dogs should be in supermarkets, doctor surgeries or pharmacies

permanently

The ones I saw were in Nike and later Pret a Manger as well as Abercrombie and Jack Wills 😳

Ugh. I hate how you’re expected to fawn over them too. Dog owners looking at you expecting an interaction when you walk past their cafe table and their dog sniffs you…. 😄 I am v antisocial when it comes to dogs.

I'm antisocial to humans
And i discourage my dog to sniffing humans
Luckily she's fussy

MaidOfSteel · 27/10/2024 20:50

Some owners seem to be treating their pets like their babies and so are taking them everywhere they'd take their family. It's ridiculous.

I hate being around dogs; I'm absolutely terrified for one thing, they're just not clean and they jump up at me. always ask the owners to keep them away but some just laugh. 'He's only playing.' Ugh. How I loathe that excuse.

user1467300911 · 27/10/2024 20:51

Dog owners were, in the main, fine before covid. Dogs fitted in with our lives and there was no expectation that we would be able to bring them to an eatery! I wish more places would ban them.

That’s totally your call! Appreciate you not letting your dog sniff humans, that seems to be unusual. The amount of times my toddler daughter has been minding her own business then intercepted and sniffed by a dog bigger than her…!

Ambienteamber · 27/10/2024 20:19

I feel the same.
I'm not a pet person really but it seems like I'm in a minority. I just don't understand why you'd want to burden yourself? There's animals outside everywhere you could admire from a distance.. and the bonus being they are mostly living out their free natural lives rather than trapped in a house as entertainment for someone.
The dogs just make me feel a bit sad... once they might have been wolves roaming the forests in a pack. Now they are bred to look ridiculous, have health problems and not even have the intelligence to run away if let go. So docile and upsettingly grateful.
I get some people love them like a member of their family.. but I'd never be able to stop feeling sad every time I looked at them personally.

Yeah, and they insist they "love" them but then say they "own" them while they order them around, force them to live in small spaces with loads of other dogs nearby living in other small spaces so they stress each other out, feed them absolute shite and don't allow them to get enough exercise. That's not love...

Happyhappyday · 27/10/2024 20:52

Agree! I was in the very busy supermarket multistory car park yesterday, walk back to car, beep the boot, bags in, ready to head home. There is a woman next to me faffing around between the cars so I don’t turn on the engine right away. She yells through the window WAIT JUST A MINUTE MY DOG!!! Is here. And continues faffing for a couple more minutes. WHHYYYY do you need to bring your bloody dog to the supermarket, and if you do, FGS, get control of it in the car park!

She then didn’t bother to tell me that the blessed creature was out of the way so I had to put the window down and ask. At which point I was informed that there were other pedestrians and cars behind me. Um yes. That’s why I’m going to check my mirrors before reversing…

I totally agree.

ban them.

I was talking about children being different to dogs, something the furbaby brigade cant comprehend it seems.

CanalBoots · 27/10/2024 20:53

Businesses allow dogs in because it's financially a good idea. A third of British homes have dogs so if you ban dogs you're potentially keeping a third of your potential footfall away.

Liberty had a guy on TV once who said that dogs have always been allowed in the shop. He added that in his long service there he'd never known a dog disgrace itself but he couldn't say the same for the humans who shopped there.

Allthehorsesintheworld · 27/10/2024 20:53

I visit a coastal village regularly. It’s more a large village than a town, one street of shops, 3-4 cafes and a craft market. The whole place is heaving with dogs. In cafes, shops, the market. Mine stays at home. He’s not going to fade away in the few hours I’m gone.

Skybluecoat · 27/10/2024 20:55

I’m not sure what you mean OP?

Obviously the university was welcoming these dogs or they wouldn’t have been allowed in.

So why shouldn’t they be there?
