SMARTPHONE – Leave it alone, it does it with magic.
SUNDIAL – Move one house to the right.
COOKER – You’ll need a masters in Electronic Engineering, or a hammer.
CAR CLOCK – not worth it, wait six months

Thanks Op that made me smile this morning!

I now have a whole day when DH ( aged 62 ) spends the whole saying ‘ well it’s really 11 am you know…. Well it’s really 2pm you know …..well it’s not lunch/dinner/bed time yet as it’s only xx o’clock. Drives me up the wall.

speedqueen · 27/10/2024 07:36

I’m down staying in my sisters house to look after Dad so she can go away on a well deserved break with her hubby. Half way through the week I realised I’d be staying in someone else’s house on hour change day!!! Managed to change Dads bedside radio alarm last night with a lot of fiddling…the microwave is beyond me! Definitely trying the 12.00 turn off at the mains! Thank you!

Tumbleweed101 · 27/10/2024 07:36

The woke me wanting be let out. It would have been half 7 by yesterday's time. It won't matter tomorrow as I have to be up for work at half 6.

Hotafternoon · 27/10/2024 07:36

I only have to physically alter the microwave, my watch and the clock in the car. The cooker clock I've not reset since a power cut and that was about a year or more ago. I know I should get the instruction sheet out but as I don't use the cooker much, I use the air fryer instead, I can't be bothered to look for it.

Many years ago I stupidly put my clock forward an hour instead of back. By 3pm in the afternoon, I couldn't understand why the day was dragging so much. I had something to eat and messed about in the garden a bit more then came in and put the news on around 4pm and realised by the time check what I'd done. Doh!

You would have thought I would have never been so stupid after that but no, I actually did it again a year or two later.

Thank goodness for tech now, all the important stuff readjusts itself. 😆

FormerlySpeckledyHen · 27/10/2024 07:39

My Fitbit has lost the plot overnight and thinks it is 0938 Saturday!!

Giggorata · 27/10/2024 07:41

We've got a few old clocks that need changing.
DH will do a couple without telling me, then I will do them again, or redo the wrong one that hasn't been touched, and no one will do the big one.
Every clock in the house will be telling a different time for days. ☹️

MrsMoastyToasty · 27/10/2024 07:43

How do you re-set a teenager?

PlayDadiFreyr · 27/10/2024 07:43

Poland change their clocks a week after us, and I was on holiday for that week.

Clocks changed, flew to Poland, time difference, clocks changed again there the following week. Flew back.

Miracle we made the flight tbh.

Chasingsquirrels · 27/10/2024 07:43

My car has a BST setting, you go into settings, toggle to it, tick/untick the box and it adjusts the clocks.
There are 2 clocks - a digital which just changes and an analogue which whizzes the hour hand an hour.
When the kids were smaller we used to sit there and do it 3 or 4 times ("do it again mum"). Makes me smile thinking about it.

You forgot something important.

HAVE THE FOLLOWING CONVERSATION WITH SEVERAL PEOPLE

“The clocks change this weekend”

”Ooo, we get an extra hour in bed”

”Is it forward or back, I can never remember”

”Isn’t it spring forward, fall back?”

”It’s not fall, it’s autumn”

Were you in our house yesterday? Pretty much word for word the conversation we had, with an added extra "is it this weekend? I thought it was next weekend".

The electronics and wall clocks change themselves.

It was just the oven to change and I did that when I got up for a wee at 3/4am.

DC1 is having great fun telling us what time it "isn't" as he's not updated his watch yet.

DatingDinosaur · 27/10/2024 07:46

I'm still trying to work out whether I need to ask my neighbour to cut or grow their hedge so the sun rises over it at the correct time Confused

honestasever · 27/10/2024 07:46

Don’t forget to check your smoke alarms!

ThatGutsyHedgehog · 27/10/2024 07:48

Anyone got suggestions for a baby who doesn’t realise the clocks have changed to woke up at 5 for the day ?😂

NewGreenDuck · 27/10/2024 07:49

MrsMoastyToasty · 27/10/2024 07:43

How do you re-set a teenager?

I don't know, but can you tell me how to reset a 68 year old. (me). I woke up at the wrong ie right time and I'll carry on doing it for ages.
Please for the love of God can't we stop this nonsense twice every year?

Skybluecoat · 27/10/2024 07:54

Forgot to add, I much prefer GMT to BST as I am a lark and love the early mornings. It’s hard going that last two weeks of BST when I am getting up in the dark and it’s not light til gone 7am.

I really do think we should stop all the clock changing and just keep GMT.

mydogisthebest · 27/10/2024 07:59

I wish we would stop the clock changing.

It takes my body clock ages to adjust plus I have 7 clocks around the house and 5 watches to change.

Oh and I hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate that it gets dark even earlier in the afternoon/evening

Today marks the beginning of the annual battle with the clock on the hot water/heating control. I have to build up the energy over several days to even attempt to change the bastarding thing.

This means that whereas a mere 24 hours ago, it came on at exactly the right time, it now comes on an hour too late. So, until I can face changing it it's cold showers all round.

Needless to say, no other bugger will even attempt to sort it. They'll just moan and shiver.

Mines on 24 hours, no timer. I just use the thermostat when necessary. I claim it's for other reasons but to tell the truth it's cos I can't be arsed to work out how to do the timer.

No! Most of us don't live our lives symmetrically around midday nowadays. At the equinox I'd bet most people are out and about more 7am to 7pm than 6am to 6pm. In summer even with BST it still gets light too early but long late evenings are lovely.
I'd go to double summer time in summer, and 'BST' in winter.

TheDandyLion · 27/10/2024 06:53

Does it display the time in 12h format instead of 24h and its set to the wrong 12hours?

I don't think so... you've now got me wondering... I'll have to go and check, thanks!

AChickenPooAndABiscuit · 27/10/2024 08:06

daisychain01 · 27/10/2024 07:26

Try tuning your clock radio to Radio 4. As per my post above about car radios, the same applies. Depending on where you are in the country there are transmitters that emit signals including the new time. Our closest is in Birmingham but there are other ones. Radio 4 acts as a transmitter as it holds the data in their RDS.

Thanks! 😀

Flamingmentalcats · 27/10/2024 08:07

Our central heating unit is actually the right time now. We have never been able to fathom how to change it when the clocks change so we just leave it. We can actually put it on timer now for the heating to come on, yay

Essentially, you just have to grit your teeth until they are a teenager when you will suddenly find yourself wishing they'd occasionally emerge from their stinky pit before noon of a Saturday.

And if they kindly bring their mould-covered mugs with them you'll be ever so grateful.

😄

@brightpompoms I have had the heating on all year. The height of summer we never got over 20 degrees. Most of the summer we were very lucky if we had 14/15 degrees during the day. The temperature variation in different parts of UK is huge. People in the south of England always seem to struggle with this concept.
