Clocks go back tonight - this is what to do

SMARTPHONE – Leave it alone, it does it with magic.
SUNDIAL – Move one house to the right.
COOKER – You’ll need a masters in Electronic Engineering, or a hammer.
CAR CLOCK – not worth it, wait six months

Any advise on how to tell the dog he has to wait another hour for breakfast?

I fed mine at 5.00 GMT and went back to bed! Then I adjust the evening timing back gradually.

No no OP, GMT is only for 5 months not six!😁. I love the fact that my sundial will be right for 5 months, it is very conservative and won't have any of this Daylight Saving Time nonsense in summer.

It was only in March this year that I realised it’s only 5 months. It really cheered me up 😂

Chicheguevara · 27/10/2024 06:29

My dogs don’t get the concept of the moving clocks. Been up since the ‘new’ 4.30. Laundry done, coffee drunk, winter puddings made and ready to go in the freezer soon. I have told the dogs that they have to wait until about now to walk as it’s daylight.
It will take them a good fortnight to adjust - I move the alarm clock 5 mins each day. I find it helps me too.

TheChosenTwo · 27/10/2024 06:31

I suspect dh changes my car one, I’ve never done it and put up with it being wrong for a bit and then one day it’s right.

Yeah- me too- I just always assumed it was 6&6 rather than 7&5, even though I knew it’s March and October.

What's winter pudding? Google came up with a million things.

Watto1 · 27/10/2024 06:37

I was wondering why I was awake so early until I saw this thread! Yes, phone has done it all by itself but I’m going to have to attempt to change the central heating timer. Lived here for 8 years but I still struggle with it.

MargaretThursday · 27/10/2024 06:39

This was quite funny the first time I saw it about 5 years ago.
Unfortunately it has worn thin having been posted around twice a year ever since.
Usually followed by several people pointing out that their car changes automatically and an argument about whether it's one house to the left or right, followed by someone (with diagram) showing why that doesn't work anyway.

I prefer to leave them anyway. I feel much better if my brain thinks I'm getting up at 8, rather than 7.

We need the recipe for your winter pudding 🍮 😀!

Mrsttcno1 · 27/10/2024 06:49

This cheered me up this morning😂 if only there was instructions on what to do with my 6 month old with the clocks changing, usual 4:30am wake up was actually 3:30am this morning so you will find me next to the coffee machine all day

AChickenPooAndABiscuit · 27/10/2024 06:51

Well here's an odd one - anyone got any idea about this? We have two radio alarm clock things, one changes automatically when the clocks do, but the other one takes about 12 hours! No idea why, it's quite new so this is only the second clock change we've gone through with it. We are now waiting to see what time it decides to change Grin and no, it hasn't yet... Hmm

Does it display the time in 12h format instead of 24h and its set to the wrong 12hours?

ClaireduLuney · 27/10/2024 06:58

I just stick to the 'old' time and gradually adjust over a couple of days.

I've a very sensitive body clock and it calls for its meals at the usual time.
I hate the clock change fiasco.

I usually eat by 8am (having had my last meal at 7pm yesterday) so I'm up and getting on with the day.

TBH I ignore the clock and carry on as usual, although going out shopping later has to wait a bit longer.

Merrilydancing · 27/10/2024 07:00

My car excels itself in this. My phone Bluetooth’s in, so one screen is correct, however the dashboard screen remains on car time and despite being set to automatically update, refuses to do so.

Will be at least several weeks before I finally remember how to update the car clock.

Patienceinshortsupply · 27/10/2024 07:10

If someone could advise how to reset the clock on a cocker spaniel, that'd be very welcome. Little bastard had me up at 5am and woke up grandchild on a sleepover for good measure. DH still snoring like a warthog.

It's going to be a loooooooooooong day.

Skybluecoat · 27/10/2024 07:12

DDog definitely doesn’t understand the situation. I am going to have to get my wellies on and take him for his morning walk now. 🤪

TickingAlongNicely · 27/10/2024 07:13

Now I have a dilemma. The dining room clock has been out by 6 minutes for a while, and I mentally adjust for it.

Do I change it to the correct time.. or to 6 minutes out again?

Halfemptyhalfling · 27/10/2024 07:17

Re-home your toddler or your dog for 6 months

Latenightreader · 27/10/2024 07:20

When I was a student a friend had a radio controlled clock. We gathered in his room to watch it change all by itself - there were about a dozen of us! Any excuse for a party…

LyndaSnellsSniff · 27/10/2024 07:23

Today marks the beginning of the annual battle with the clock on the hot water/heating control. I have to build up the energy over several days to even attempt to change the bastarding thing.

This means that whereas a mere 24 hours ago, it came on at exactly the right time, it now comes on an hour too late. So, until I can face changing it it's cold showers all round.

Needless to say, no other bugger will even attempt to sort it. They'll just moan and shiver.

daisychain01 · 27/10/2024 07:23

CAR CLOCK – not worth it, wait six months

if it's an old vehicle you can look up the details on the manufacturers website

For many modern vehicles, you should be able to tune the radio to Radio 4 and it will reset the car clock time automatically after 1-2 mins. Don't try LBC because it won't work as they don't hold the data on their RDS (server)

Try tuning your clock radio to Radio 4. As per my post above about car radios, the same applies. Depending on where you are in the country there are transmitters that emit signals including the new time. Our closest is in Birmingham but there are other ones. Radio 4 acts as a transmitter as it holds the data in their RDS.

Iloveglitterballs · 27/10/2024 07:31

My late father used to work as an electrical engineer in the cold storage warehouse for one of the big supermarkets. When I was a kid I remember him going in to work to change all the clocks twice a year at 2am. I'm sure they're all automated now, but I always remember this fondly at this time of year.

Noseyoldcow · 27/10/2024 07:33

Why is it that I never suffer from jet lag, no matter how far I travel east or west, but the one hour change in the UK clocks twice a year knocks me bandy? Especially now that I'm retired, it's not like I have to get out to work on time. Weird.
