Leaving aside the Rachel Reeves put down, that was quite a complimentary post from Rummly

I thought she looked like a chess player. Laying out her strategy, taking responsibility for it. She made it clear that she had tough decisions to make but she made a budget for working people. She made it clear she expects employers to do their part. She didn't 'fix' everything and not everyone will be happy. At least she looked and sounded as though she knew what she was doing.

RafaistheKingofClay · 30/10/2024 18:13

The two major issues with the NHS are a) staffing and b) money. There’s a large side helping of problems with social care causing problems but the problems social care has are a) staffing and b) money.
You can reform the fuck out of it by deciding the issue is too many managers and inefficiency but it is unlikely to make a dent in the issue.
There are ways it could probably save money by doing things more efficiently but I doubt the savings will make much of a dent in the real issue.

It was, I’d like to think, a sensible comment.

I try to consider politics in a measured way - not just boost my preferred party, however laughably. Some Labour people on these threads could try the same.

DuncinToffee · 30/10/2024 18:29

I would say these threads are conducted in a measured way

As for 'labour people' Confused

OP posts:
RafaistheKingofClay · 30/10/2024 18:52

Do we have many ‘Labour people’ on these threads?

Oh right. So these threads are all populated by Tories, LibDems and SNP supporters? Hmm.

DuncinToffee · 30/10/2024 18:57

Not many Tories, or Reform, I give you that

Where is that one, please? (Rolls up sleeves).

Not sure it would be good for your blood pressure 😂

BIWI · 30/10/2024 19:09

You can't help having a dig, can you, @Rummly?

I’m not sure why that’s a bad thing. I try to be considered and decent. A little poke now and again isn’t so bad is it? I doubt even the most ardent Labour fan on here thinks they’re immune to comment that isn’t positively fawning.

After all, there’s plenty of vitriol poured on Tories and Tory posters.

Saucery · 30/10/2024 19:33

I’m more of a ‘natural’ Tory than ‘natural’ Labour. Always met with courtesy and reasoned debate here. Once again Rummly, you plop in, ascribing a demographic to these threads that bears little resemblance to the political views of the posters on them. It’s a tad boring now. Are you not bored with it also? It’s a strange little pastime, making up political affiliations for internet randoms, do you not think?

Not much in the Budget to impact me. Seems ok on the whole. RR’s delivery neither here nor there tbh and I couldn’t give a shit what she wore while she said some words.

I did see it. Decided not to read it!

Rummly · 30/10/2024 18:56

I am a more of a Plaid Cymru supporter these days. Voted Labour to GTTO. I have a feeling there are one or two SNP supporters on here.

RafaistheKingofClay · 30/10/2024 19:38

Let me rephrase it then. I don’t think many of us on here are Labour fans in the way you seem to think we are. There aren’t many reform voters, true. And no ardent Tory supporters. Although some of us have voted Tory in the past. I’m not even sure that the Labour supporters we do have are fans of the Starmer government. And I’m fairly certain that not all of us that voted Labour in this year’s election did it because they are fans of the Starmer government.

PandoraSox · 30/10/2024 19:39

@rummly did you not read what posters here were saying about all the "Keir's gear" stories and the WFA. Hardly fawning!

RafaistheKingofClay · 30/10/2024 19:44

I am warming slightly to this government tbh. I was a bit worried about where Starmer and Reeves were going with policy. But I’m beginning to feel like it might work out. That switch they’ve made to the fiscal rules they tied themselves into is huge.

That’s very unfair! I’m an occasional visitor - and was encouraged back by a regular poster on a previous one of these threads.

What’s boring is all subjective. There’s some fearfully boring government love being spouted on MN, IMO.

Plop?

I didn't get very far. I value my tired old brain cells too much.

I get it. It's a particular subset of carers who will benefit from the change. It doesn't (currently) benefit me as a full time carer but that doesn't mean I'm going to stamp my feet and say it was completely pointless.

PandoraSox · 30/10/2024 19:48

@Rummly, you do like to come on.here to be somewhat dismissive!

Anyway, are you hoping Badenoch wins the Tory leadership?

Same here. A bit of an increase in CA would have been welcome. Or even make it tax free. But I am glad people will be able to earn more and hopefully the cliff edge will be resolved.

RafaistheKingofClay · 30/10/2024 19:52

I think if you are an occasional visitor it might be better not to start ascribing political views to the posters on these threads. We don’t even all agree with each other.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 30/10/2024 19:53

Apologies - I missed the new thread. Tax attached. (They haven't really gone hungry post budget.)
Very disappointed by the lack of threads about VAT on school fees on the site today.

Indeed. I find your interjections on these threads boring, for the reasons I outlined above i.e. you just make twaddle up about these threads being a Labour Love-In.

fearfully boring government love being spouted
But generally, not on these threads.

Plop?
Dropping unrelated guffs on threads that bear no resemblance to what is being discussed.

The subjective nature of boredom means I am finding taking you on is becoming tedious, so do excuse me for not replying further.
