I’m not sure why that’s a bad thing. I try to be considered and decent. A little poke now and again isn’t so bad is it? I doubt even the most ardent Labour fan on here thinks they’re immune to comment that isn’t positively fawning.

After all, there’s plenty of vitriol poured on Tories and Tory posters.

You Tories had 14 years, thats almost 3 normal electoral cycles, now i'm no fan of Thatcher but even the most ardent Labour supporter would have to say she achieved many things during her time in power.... might have been the wrong things in many peoples opinion.

But Cameron, May, Bojo, Truss, Sunak? all they ve done is wreck the country, as my very Tory brother said to me before the GE "Nothing works in the UK anymore" even he voted LibDem....

The mystery is why people still support them, given another 5 years, they'd have finished off the UK.

On jibs, Reeves nailed it with Private jets and California, oh did i laugh!!

RafaistheKingofClay · 30/10/2024 19:56

That is a picture of cats that are clearly telling you you have forgotten to fill their bowls and have let them down.

BIWI · 30/10/2024 19:57

What's important and valuable about these threads @Rummly is that we acknowledge that other posters may have different views and political affiliations. We agree to disagree, but politely.

But you don't seem to feel that's important, for some reason.

TooBigForMyBoots · 30/10/2024 20:00

That was a good budget.👏👏👏

I'm not "Labour people".

Rummly · 30/10/2024 20:00

PandoraSox · 30/10/2024 19:48

@Rummly, you do like to come on.here to be somewhat dismissive!

Anyway, are you hoping Badenoch wins the Tory leadership?

Yes, I do. I want to see her leading the Tory party. Jenrick would be a terrible mistake for the Tories. Too autocratic, too stiff, too much like Starmer.

Badenoch seemed to get a reasonable response on here after her webchat.

I don’t have a vote though - since my credo has always been that membership of a political party is the sign of a dullard and something to be avoided - so I can only hope that the geriatrics in the Tory shires see sense.

I did notice your question was first on the webchat. I have to be honest though, I couldn't watch the whole thing.

(Edited out my little dig!)

Ha! I actually think that welcoming the fact of the (prospectively, obviously) first black, female, Yoruba-speaking PM would be a good thing, and uncontentious.

But there you go.

Edit: posted while you edited. I stand by the sentiment though.

Yeah, all true if it wasn't Badenoch. She is very unpleasant.

I disagree. But it’s just disagreement. Not rancour.

Willowkins · 30/10/2024 20:18

Just caught up with NF's response to the budget. I watched it so you don't have do but it's 4h27m in if anyone's interested.
To summarise, he thinks RR is clever and he's happy with 1p off beer duty but he doesn't think the budget will stack up economically. He touched on population growth but his main argument was that we should leave it to the free market and encourage people to get rich by working hard. He said we're in deep trouble because of the growing national debt.
There. Hope that helps.

DuncinToffee · 30/10/2024 20:21

Apparently Truss and Rees Mogg are responding on gbeebies if anyone fancies taking one for the team

Do we have many ‘Labour people’ on these threads?

I've been Labour, LDs and Tory in the past - or rather I've voted all 3 at some point.

I will remain with my line drawn at Reform!!!

Was very impressed with the Greens this time round and if tactical voting wasn't needed maybe could have swung to them from my decided Labour vote.

derxa · 30/10/2024 20:29

DuncinToffee · 30/10/2024 14:57

all very niche

Niche? It’s not niche when your whole family’s future is at risk. Fuck you Rachel Reeves

Saucery · 30/10/2024 19:33

I’m more of a ‘natural’ Tory than ‘natural’ Labour. Always met with courtesy and reasoned debate here. Once again Rummly, you plop in, ascribing a demographic to these threads that bears little resemblance to the political views of the posters on them. It’s a tad boring now. Are you not bored with it also? It’s a strange little pastime, making up political affiliations for internet randoms, do you not think?

Not much in the Budget to impact me. Seems ok on the whole. RR’s delivery neither here nor there tbh and I couldn’t give a shit what she wore while she said some words.

I'm very centric so very much more a natural Tory and/or Labour voter and think you explained that well.

I'm a fan of Starmers Labour but I also think he's more one nation Tory in many ways and has out Toried some Tory's whilst they've been trying to out reform reform!!!!

I have some left leaning views but I've never been particularly left wing as a voter. I certainly didn't go near Labour when Corbyn was in charge. But I also didn't agree with the Tory's blaming him for everything they did either 😂

Are you a farmer, Derxa?

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 30/10/2024 20:33

I'm quite happy with the budget. No real surprises, good for the lowest earners, but mostly because it appears to be properly thought out and (dare I say it) was a bit boring. Hopefully the noise (and a few duff Labour decisions) that has dominated some of the press since Labour came to power might quieten down a bit now.

Willowkins · 30/10/2024 20:36

Okay not sure how long I can watch LT and JRM but they're saying the OBR should be abolished

RafaistheKingofClay · 30/10/2024 20:36

PandoraSox · 30/10/2024 20:33

Sheep farmer I think but could be wrong about that.

itsgettingweird · 30/10/2024 20:36

Yes, I do. I want to see her leading the Tory party. Jenrick would be a terrible mistake for the Tories. Too autocratic, too stiff, too much like Starmer.

Interesting take on Jenrick. I watched him on GMB this morning as he was very smooth, very clear and if you'd have taken the face away could have been Farage.

Could deliver a line that was an accusation but without being an accusation very cleverly. That - imo - makes him dangerous for the country. His ability to stir up hatred because he's such a good speaker is undeniably scary!

But Badenoch is no better imo!

I'd have preferred Tugenhat or Clevery from the final 3. And I'm fan of James Cleverly. But he was by far the best of a bad bunch.

My old Tory councillor Peter Davies was amazing. I think if he had been so inclined he'd have made an amazing PM back in the day. Probabaly about the same time he was my sociology lecturer at uni 😂😂

derxa · 30/10/2024 20:37

PandoraSox · 30/10/2024 20:33

Are you a farmer, Derxa?

Yes I am. Why do you want to destroy us? We’ve adapted and adapted and this is the final straw.

RafaistheKingofClay · 30/10/2024 20:38

I’m not stalking you derxa I just feel like your name is familiar from threads about irresponsible dog walkers allowing their dogs off lead to kill sheep.

RafaistheKingofClay · 30/10/2024 20:39

And I agree this isn’t a great budget for farming families.

Yes. We’ve had sheep killed by dogs

They think anything that doesn't allow them to do what they want should be abolished.

Bit concerning that they want to run a country with no humans rights laws and nobody over seeing fiscal decisions.

I don't want to destroy anyone. I try to support farmers in my own small way (by buying products direct and not from supermarkets).

What was the position re: IHT prior to today? Were farms totally exempt?
