How old is your Miele.

I’m a big fan of Miele appliances so was gutted when my dishwasher died yesterday. It is 20years old and apart from a small crack on a plastic part of the middle tray caused by my DS slamming the door when he was a toddler, it had been a quiet and efficient member of my household. I will be sad that see it go.

I have ordered its replacement and I’m looking forward to a long relationship with a new model.

Along with the dishwasher I have a 19yr old Miele washing machine, equally loved and cherished, again apart from a safety cut out after a flood in the garage which is easily fixed, it has been disaster free.

Along with a couple of Miele vacuum cleaners, whose joint age is about 35 yrs, the total years of service I’ve had from Miele products is a 74 yrs. I wonder if anyone can beat this?

My only other wonder machine is my Kenwood Chef, inherited from my late DM. It has been in service for approx 50yrs with only one repair and overhaul carried out last year when the wiring loom failed.

I worked out that my dishwasher has cost me between £15 per year. It cost me around £300 20yrs ago which seemed like a huge investment at the time. Its predecessor lasted less than five years and for comparison had cost £40 a year.

We've had to replace our Miele washing machine this week - gutted!!! It had done 20.5 years and there's a setting where can check how many hours it has been on : ours was 10,045!

Washing machine died. 8 yrs. switched to LG

My vacuum cleaner is somewhere around 25 years old.

I'd love to have other appliances from them, but unlike their vacuum cleaners, the difference in cost for their white goods is way too much for me to consider.

Igmum · 26/10/2024 10:57

Current Miele washing machine is a youthful 3 or so. Its predecessor made it to 21 or 2.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 26/10/2024 11:16

My Miele dishwasher lasted 13 years, I replaced it with another Miele last year. My washing machine and tumble dryer are both Miele and both around 14 years old. The washing machine had to have a repair to the door seal about 6 years ago but apart from that they have both been reliable.

Someone had a thread asking about Miele a month or so ago and people were saying that they weren't the same quality as they used to be, but when I was researching brands the last time I moved house there were people on Mumsnet saying the same. So either the quality is roughly the same or Miele has been on a downward spiral for at least 14 years.

Bought my Miele dishwasher and washing machine 25 years ago - on the strength of parents dishwasher being then about 30 years old and still going. Sadly Miele dishwasher outlived them both, and is still going in one of my brother's house.
Since then (15 years + ago, need to check date) I have a Miele fridge/freezer too.

LozzaChops101 · 26/10/2024 11:18

My Miele vacuum is 20! The door mechanism is knackered but other than that it’s perfect 😅

Doingmybest12 · 26/10/2024 11:26

I had a washing machine which we had to replace at 10 years and it had already been mended twice. I didn't feel it justified the price tag.

JC03745 · 26/10/2024 13:06

We recently renovated and bought all Miele appliances. I hope we get the longevity others have, but also heard its unlikely now. We did have a 20yr old dyson though.

As a side note, there is a Miele factory outlet and the list changes daily. We bought our integrated fridge from there and other than a tiny dent on the side (which isn't visible) its perfect.

If you have a bluelight card, you can get 20% off their new appliances too, but you need to speak to customer service for them to apply the discount.

The only issue I had was with Miele's customer service. In a long queue each time I've had to call and them getting the delivery details/postcode completely wrong, including my name.

@Anisty my sebo hoover is well over 15 years old and the best thing ever!!!!

Oldraver · 26/10/2024 14:41

Ours is about 10 years old with one repair. Tumble dryer 7 years old, dishwasher 5 years old. Vacuum is oldest at about 15 years.

Oven is just over a week old and still going 😅

Oldest appliance I've had is a very basic 27 year old Hotpoint dishwasher, though I would rather forget the Hotpoint washer

They have some bargains in their outlet. There was an oven for £405 the other week

FavouriteYellowChair · 26/10/2024 14:47

Also have a fairly youthful vacuum: coming up to 9 years and showing no signs of age.

GinnyPiggie · 26/10/2024 14:49

My Meile vacuum is over 20 years old and I got it serviced this year. The engineer was in AWE of it and said I must never let it go because it's 2400 W which is now not allowable. I do love it.

Vacuum cleaner about 5 years

Ladylalaboo1 · 26/10/2024 14:53

Our Miele washing machine came with our house ( we rented from my grandparents) and they bought it early 2000's. Had been going strong , family of 5 - three young kids eldest two play a lot of football and husband plays hockey so had awful things running through it. Only recently had to call someone out to replace some water pump part for £45. It's fantastic and once it does die I'll be buying a Miele myself to replace it! - in comparison we have a generic cheap dryer - that's 1 year old and had been replaced as the original was only 6 months and had to be fixed 5 times before it was replaced - this one have had call outs on it 3 times already 🤣 so once that does break I'm going to get a Miele dryer I think it's just not worth the bother of a cheap machine , having to arrange call outs and not having them for weeks on end. Die hard Miele fan , always recommend them when I can!

minisomum · 26/10/2024 14:54

We've been through two Miele vacuums since we got married, so 16 tears now (first one was a wedding present). The second one is on it's way out as the retracting mechanism has broken for the flex.

I've not been that impressed to be honest.

StressedEric · 26/10/2024 15:00

I was fed up of buying cheaper appliances which died after less than 5 years and heard of the fabled longevity of Miele , so when we renovated this house in 2019/20 I went for laminate worktops instead of quartz to allow the budget for all integrated Miele appliances ( washing machine , heat pump drier dishwasher fridge/freezer) . I am touching wood and crossing my fingers so as not to jinx it when I say all have worked perfectly with no issues so far ! Eek I hope I haven’t tempted fate .

Isabelle70 · 26/10/2024 15:07

My cat and dog vacuum is 15 years old and still going strong but looking a bit battered and scuffed. I inherited my Dm Miele vacuum and have started to use that one as well.
My DS takes either of them to work to clean his DHL van as the work vacuum is rubbish!

Highlighta · 26/10/2024 15:17

All my big appliances are Miele

I replaced my washing machine after 22 years, it was well used. Travelled to two counties and saw two babies through in cloth nappies.

So my newest one is the next washer, now about 5 years or so.
Tumble dryer also well travelled, about 20 years old now
Dishwasher is 12 years old

My fridge and freezer were both bought 2nd hand when I moved here. I've had them about 18 years and the previous owner said they have them for 20 years. So they are coming up for 40 years old each. They are not the prettiest, they were quite yellowed white when we got them. The ex gave them a spray paint and they are still here.

I don't expect the new appliances to last like the older ones, I think this is the case with most items now though.

housemaus · 26/10/2024 15:21

We've got a 19 year old dishwasher and washing machine still going strong! We had someone out to look at our fridge recently and were offered one of those appliance cover plans that you can add a few appliances to, and the man was very apologetic when he said they weren't covered as they were 19 years old (we inherited them with the house). I was quite surprised - the dishwasher needed fixing last year when one of the pumps got stuck but other than that they've been fine. I'm very impressed and was considering shelling out for new Mieles when they die, but it seems like maybe they're not as worth it any more?

We've got a fabled pre-regulation-change Hoover and DH always says the same, that we need to look after it because they're not as powerful now. The thing could strip the carpet bald if you're not careful!

KnittedCardi · 26/10/2024 15:24

Miele fridge and separate Miele freezer, now both relegated to the garage are 28 years old. Just thinking about changing them, although they work perfectly well, I think they are perhaps not as efficient as new models and the seals are starting to go.

Miele fridge in the kitchen did fail after about 10 years, but it was a big fridge in a small hole, and overheated. The replacement, smaller, so air flows around it, is 10 years old, and like new still.

Bosch dishwasher is 21 years old. Bosch washing machine about 15 years old.
