How old is your Miele.

I’m a big fan of Miele appliances so was gutted when my dishwasher died yesterday. It is 20years old and apart from a small crack on a plastic part of the middle tray caused by my DS slamming the door when he was a toddler, it had been a quiet and efficient member of my household. I will be sad that see it go.

I have ordered its replacement and I’m looking forward to a long relationship with a new model.

Along with the dishwasher I have a 19yr old Miele washing machine, equally loved and cherished, again apart from a safety cut out after a flood in the garage which is easily fixed, it has been disaster free.

Along with a couple of Miele vacuum cleaners, whose joint age is about 35 yrs, the total years of service I’ve had from Miele products is a 74 yrs. I wonder if anyone can beat this?

My only other wonder machine is my Kenwood Chef, inherited from my late DM. It has been in service for approx 50yrs with only one repair and overhaul carried out last year when the wiring loom failed.

I worked out that my dishwasher has cost me between £15 per year. It cost me around £300 20yrs ago which seemed like a huge investment at the time. Its predecessor lasted less than five years and for comparison had cost £40 a year.

I'm not sure how old my Miele vacuum cleaner is, because I inherited it from my grandma when she went into a home. But I've had it about 18 years.

It’s reassuring that many others have had the same outstanding service.
Re the newer models, I’ve noticed that Miele do a sort of budget range exclusively for some retailers. I wonder whether these models are not as long lasting. The new dishwasher I have ordered is similar to my old one in functions etc but with a more up to date control panel. John Lewis sell one for nearly half the price as an exclusive so maybe build quality is not as good or they may be manufactured by another company.
I know that Liebherr manufacture for Miele but they also do a budget range for Curry’s. The Curry’s fridge are no where near the quality of the ranges you can get elsewhere.

I can recommend Liebherr fridges. I had one for 15yrs and only replaced it because I need a big fridge freezer. I was rubbish at using a freezer properly when I worked full time. It was only used for frozen peas and bread so I didn’t bother with a freezer when we replaced the kitchen. I’m now retired and DS has gone to uni so I have the time to batch cook and plan meals. The fridge, although working, perfectly was not dog secure, the seal was worn and our lovely lab had learned how to open it. I replaced with a Bosch freezer.
The new one has an alarm so if the dog opens the freezer ( and she does) the alarm goes off.

My parents have an ancient Miele vacuum cleaner that looks (and moves) like R2D2 - it hasn't been the main hoover for many years but still very much in use keeping my Dad's double garage/workshop clean. It's nearly 55 years old!

Our Miele washer-dryer is 10 years old and going strong. It did have a control part for the TwinDos replaced at about 6 years though but it was under warrenty so all fine. I love it a lot but it's really heavy so I'm pretty scared about when it dies and getting it out of the utility room.

My Miele washer is almost five years old and still going great.I have a Sebo vacuum cleaner which must be about 10 years old and still works very well.
My biggest regret is selling my Pfaff sewing machine which was 34 years old.I cannot afford to do sewing now due to the increasing cost of good quality fabric
I sold it in a mad moment as I am now 80 years old and thought if I die soon my family would take it to the nearest tip, as none of them have any interest in sewing.
I mourn it like a beloved friend. It was made in Germany and built to last, not like the ones now.

I have an old pfaff from mid 1970s. It was inherited and has had very little use but has always worked when called upon.

Oh I’d have been here but for my hugely expensive Miele dishwasher that died dead after 7 years!! I don’t buy them any more because they cost double what other decent German brands cost…

Babyboomer60 · 26/10/2024 23:12

My Miele vacuum is about 13 years old and brilliant still.
