My daughter is in labour and I'm a mess of emotion

As above. My adult daughter is in labour with her first baby, her partner is with her, and I will get updates from time to time.
I won't be mithering them for updates, I'm happy to hear whenever they choose to update, including if they wait until baby comes, but I'm a mess of emotion and worry. I just hope all goes well for her and the baby and it's not too awful.
She's been in early stages of labour since early this morning, has been up to the hospital and sent home again. She says she's doing ok.
Just sharing on here as I have nobody around at the moment to share with, and hoping that some can understand my emotions at my lovely daughter now being in the process of birthing her own child.
I can remember my labour and her birth so well, as if it was yesterday. I was in labour a long time, and she was born at home (as intended).
Feeling quite teary at the moment with the wonder of it all.

So many congratulations to you and your family Flowers So happy for you all.

After I had delivered my first, DH rang his mum (who was a shit "mother" to DH and also didn't like me) who said "right" and put the phone down Hmm He then rang my mum and could hear her happiness and excitement, the contrast was night and day. It had been a very long labour, he knew my mum wouldn't have been eating, and these were the days when partners were kicked out of hospital in the evening. So DH turned up on my mum's doorstep with a bottle of champagne and fish and chips which they shared. It was always one of my mum's happiest memories - and my DH's. Ironically it was the first time he experienced and really understood how wonderful parental love could (and should) be. It couldn't have been a better introduction to being a parent for him, and for her as a Granny.

It's so touching to read your thread. Love to all.

36-hour labour - whew!! Your daughter's a hero!

Purplebunnie · 22/10/2024 13:59

Congratulations to everyone and welcome to the world Imogen❤- what a beautiful name.

Welcome @Eremomila to becoming a Grandparent, it is the most wonderful thing in the world. I say this even after being woken up by DGC (sleepover) and then not getting back to sleep. I've had about 2 hours - dropped DGC off at nursery and I'm contemplating an afternoon nap

xx

BABY IS HERE!!
Baby arrived at 9.50, both mum and baby are doing great!
Welcome to the world baby Imogen, 7.2 lbs, very healthy, with a shock of black hair, feeding all ready.
My daughter is knackered but fine.
The photos are incredible. Unfortunately I can't share on here
Unable to type for tears of joy.
Thank heavens the birth is over and all is ok.
Thank you all SO MUCH for keeping me company through this. Your comments have been lovely and I really do appreciate it.
OMG so happy

how many of us were back here this morning scrolling down your posts hoping to see this one! Congratulations, Granny, and welcome to the world little one 💖

My own mum (also known as Granny) was with me when I gave birth, so it was my dad who was beside himself! He passed the time waiting for news by trawling the aisles of the nearest Mothercare extra and arrived at the hospital laden with bags and bags of gifts.

Sadly dad died last year but DS is now 21 and in a 3 year fantastic relationship so it probably won’t be too long before I’m a granny myself.

wishing you all so much happiness xxx

Such a lovely lovely thread! Congrats Granny and welcome baby Imogen 🥰

My mum went through very similar emotions and a long long wait 21 years ago for my October first baby, a girl, same weight too. Her first grandchild. She was over the moon and it was all the more bittersweet as she was terminally ill with breast cancer. She only had a year with my baby before she died at only 56. She would have given anything to have more time and to meet my other 2 .. but she made the most of that year!

It makes my heart glad to know of other Mums who are as excited as my mum was. Enjoy every second with your lovely daughter and granddaughter. You sound fab.

I have happy memories of my mum looking after me in the tiring days post birth 🥰

BettyBardMacDonald · 22/10/2024 14:20

Welcome, Imogen! 💐

Eremomila · 22/10/2024 14:21

My daughter messaged and told me she lost a litre of blood in the birth and is being kept in over night for observations. Feel shocked to hear this, I know blood loss is normal but is this a lot?
Can anyone reassure me that she wasn't at significant risk with this?
And will she be ok now?
I know she will be receiving good medical care
