My daughter is in labour and I'm a mess of emotion

As above. My adult daughter is in labour with her first baby, her partner is with her, and I will get updates from time to time.
I won't be mithering them for updates, I'm happy to hear whenever they choose to update, including if they wait until baby comes, but I'm a mess of emotion and worry. I just hope all goes well for her and the baby and it's not too awful.
She's been in early stages of labour since early this morning, has been up to the hospital and sent home again. She says she's doing ok.
Just sharing on here as I have nobody around at the moment to share with, and hoping that some can understand my emotions at my lovely daughter now being in the process of birthing her own child.
I can remember my labour and her birth so well, as if it was yesterday. I was in labour a long time, and she was born at home (as intended).
Feeling quite teary at the moment with the wonder of it all.

Hope there is news for you this morning ❤️

TheShellBeach · 22/10/2024 08:16

Hopefully by this time tomorrow, the baby will have arrived.
First labours often take days.

Foo2 · 22/10/2024 08:30

Still with you virtually OP and sending all good wishes to you and your daughter. Hopefully not long now.

Like everyone else I’m ridiculously invested in this thread! Hope all is well with everyone and you’ll have your news soon x

Janey3090 · 22/10/2024 09:16

Oh how exciting OP, hopefully not long now for your DD and she'll have her baby girl (and you your first Grand-DD!)

ssd · 22/10/2024 09:18

Im late to join in but just wanted to wish you and all your family all the best op, you will be a wonderful granny.

UsernameNameUser · 22/10/2024 10:28

Ahh, congratulations to ye all. I’ll keep ye all in my thoughts. When my oldest sister was in labor, it was the first grandchild, and my mother was an absolute mess. 11 years ago now and I can still picture her pacing the living room, muttering at the clock to hurry up, and obsessively checking her phone 😂😂 Took 16 hours of labor for my poor sister, but her baby boy was born happy & healthy. He’s a little menace now (in a good way) 😂😂. She was the same when my middle sister had her two DDs as well

Eremomila · 22/10/2024 10:44

Oh thank you all for coming back and checking, and your lovely comments, it's really helping me.
But no baby yet! Last update was around 5 am, still active labour and mum and baby said to be doing well.
My goodness this is a marathon, my poor girl. I wish there was something I could do

I'm sure you'll hear quite soon if she is in active labour! The waiting to hear is the worst bit!!

OlderGlaswegianLivingInDevon · 22/10/2024 10:52

aw i nearly got excited when I realised you had updated, I was all ready to type congr......

gosh, it really does show how every pregnancy is different for everyone, as mine was done within 9 hours from first indication.

hopefully you will hear any minute now...

MyOtherCarIsAPorsche · 22/10/2024 11:01

Yes - can totally relate!

I was with my older daughter when all of her three children were born. There were complications with all three and I'm sure I was more traumatised by her experience than my own.

My younger daughter had twins and her pregnancy was complicated by many hospital admissions for extreme morning sickness. She went into labour (waters broke) on Thursday morning and had them early hours (4am) Saturday morning.

I was looking after her two year old daughter at their house - waiting for updates. I was so worried.

They finally rang me at 9am because they didn't want to wake me. I'd had two nights with zero sleep Grin

Hopefully you'll hear soon.

My six grandchildren keep me busy and bring me pure joy.

Best wishes - the anxiety you're feeling will all be worth it.

icebearforpresident · 22/10/2024 11:13

Still here, checking up on you and appreciating the updates OP! It really won’t be long now even if it feel like an hour is lasting all day!

OP, why don't you write you DD a lovely letter, telling her how much you love her and how proud you are of her, how excited at becoming a Granny etc. I think it will be something she will treasure and it's such a special time for you both. 💏

GameOfJones · 22/10/2024 11:45

Ahh your poor daughter and poor you. I had a very long labour with my first and am really glad I didn't tell my mum anything until DD had arrived and it was all over. She'd have been the same and been worrying about me.

Hopefully you get some news soon.

Eremomila · 22/10/2024 11:58
