Cancer is such a bastard - just read the sad news about Chris Hoy’s prognosis

He and his wife Sarra are remarkable.

But life is really, truly just so unfair at times.

However, his determination to change how people perceive stage four is inspiring.

I feel so sad about this too.

I have just been reading this. I think it goes to show, as we all already know, that you can be super fit and healthy with access to the best healthcare and cancer can still come and take over. It really is a terrible disease. (I lost my Mum, Gran and Uncle to bowel cancer).

Needanewname42 · 19/10/2024 23:28

Shocking news. Their kids are so young too.

And Sarra Hoy has been diagnosed with MS.

AgainandagainandagainSS · 19/10/2024 23:29

Devastating. Such a lovely humble man.

Slothfully · 19/10/2024 23:30

I didn’t need one, it wasn’t behind a paywall for me.

Are you in the the UK? It says you need a subscription to read it.

omega4ever · 19/10/2024 23:45

So sad to read this Sir Chris has been a hero of mine for years. Such an amazing sportsman and all round good guy.

I wish him and his family had more time to spend together... they are far too young to be going through this. Devastating.

We so need better cancer screening programmes to catch cancer earlier.

Yes, I just clicked away the subscription part and it told me I could just read it all for free

I heard this on the news tonight. He probably knew whilst commentating at the Olympics this year. He's so modest and an inspiration and so easy to listen to. So sad to hear this.

Of course he knew. He’s known for over a year. He also knows his wife was unwell and doing what he did was inexplicably brave.

icebearforpresident · 20/10/2024 00:20

I feel so sad reading this, I actually cried reading the interview. It’s got me thinking about my mum, the first sign her cancer was back (after 10 years in remission) was a twinge in her shoulder, just like Chris had. That was March 2020, literally the week before lockdown, and she was dead by December.

He seems so incredibly at peace about the hand he and his wife have been dealt. I can only hope to have half as much of his perspective if my husband and I were ever to find ourselves in the same situation.

TheMadGardener · 20/10/2024 00:20

This is so sad. When cancer took my DH in 2019 my DDs were 14 and 12. I was terrified of the possibility of something happening to me too. Chris Hoy's kids are so young, and for both parents to have those diagnoses - it's unspeakably sad.

AllHisCaterpillarFriends · 20/10/2024 00:21

That is so very sad but uplifting as well. Astonishing character and it sounds like his wife is as well.

I hope they weren't forced to reveal Sara's diagnosis as it said the children don't yet know.

Boxofstars · 20/10/2024 01:43

Good god why does this always happen to good people?.

CheekyPombear · 20/10/2024 03:39

Im so sad about this he is one of my crushes.

I'm sad about his wife too.

rockingbird · 20/10/2024 03:43

Behind a paywall for me!

Purplelimesoda · 20/10/2024 03:47

Gutted to hear this, this evening and to find out his wife has MS as well. Some people get a shit hand dealt!

MuchuseasaChocolateTeapot · 20/10/2024 04:02

I’m here at the Track cycling world championships in Denmark and it’s been amazing. Chris Hoy’s name has naturally come up throughout the competition and I was thinking of how much I admired him and hoping he was recovering. Can’t sleep tonight so reading the news and read he is now terminal (although hopefully not for many years). It’s made me incredibly sad and I hope and pray that he and his wife get to see their children grow up and wish them the best.

JanglingJack · 20/10/2024 04:05

Very sad news indeed.

Topseyt123 · 20/10/2024 04:09

I saw this on the news tonight. It's incredibly sad.

He's a lovely person.
