Following on from the 1950s thread which has been the most lovely read as that was the decade my parents grew up im wondering if we could have a 1970s one? This is the decade my parents met and got married and I would love a insight to the way people were thinking.

For me we're going on holiday to the seaside AIBU to let the children ride in the foot well of the car?

Has anyone got one of those 'trim phones'? They look stylish but I'm worried it would be flimsy compared to a normal telephone. I did want a cream coloured telephone but the GPO only had black available and it's a dull spot in my brown and orange hall.

I've lost the key to the telephone lock and can only dial 1111111. A friend told me I should just press the plungers down the amount of times corresponding to the numbers I'm trying to dial, and that still works, has anyone tried this?

Yes, I have and can confirm it does!

Bannedontherun · 19/10/2024 21:38

@SeatonCarew yep, it is true. She used to buzz about at the time.

Findus Crispy Pancakes and M&S Fisherman's Pie: AIBU to never cook from scratch again?

You had to be rich to shop at M&S in the 70’s.

My mum ate “aids” toffee which turned out to be laced with. Speed.

I remember that too! It had a dramatic drop in sales in the early 1980s, after the unfortunate similarity in its name - to the disease. They changed it to AydSlim, but it didn't save it!

GoForARun · 19/10/2024 21:39

What shall I wear to my friend's Pippa Dee party tonight?

I'm thinking my purple C&A flares with a cheesecloth angel top. I've curled my flicks out with my Braun independent.

Is this ok?

Really interesting as I was 4 when the decade ended. Does anyone have a link to the 1950s thread, I’d love to see what we would have been chatting about then?

I don't think Dr Spock would approve of that OP.

Yes I have a trim phone.
I can recommend the avocado one, it matches my bathroom suite

Should I let my teen go into London with her friends as I am worried about IRA bombs? Is it safe for the children to have nightlights burning in bedrooms since we have power cuts? How many green shield stamps are needed to get a toaster?

LikeWhoUsesTypewritersAnyway · 19/10/2024 21:41

I've won £325 on the pools!

GU24Mum · 19/10/2024 21:42

DD (8) is going to a party at the weekend. I've managed to get her a lovely tartan long dress with a lace collar - just like the one I wore to the neighbour's cheese and wine party last week.

Who's on the grapefruit diet?

You need to come over to the Scarsdale Diet thread. Me and my neighbours are doing it, it's costing a fortune and I'm having to cut back on other essentials but it'll be worth it to look good for the church pie and pea supper next month.

I've just found out my so-called best friend had a Tupperware party last week and didn't invite me. Should I hold one myself and leave her out so she knows what it feels like?

The Crayola perfume stick brought my daughters wrists out in a rash, should I take her to the GP?

Crayon Girl, not Crayola... getting my decades mixed up.

AtmosAtmos · 19/10/2024 21:43

Thanks

AIBU to let my DS (7) play out after his tea?? He went out at 10.00 this morning on his bike with his mates and he took a spam sandwich and a wagon wheel with him for his lunch. I told him I didn’t want to see him back until teatime at 5pm. He’s a good boy and was back for his tea, I don’t know where he went but he had a lovely time…but is it wrong to send him out again til bed time?

My neighbour is going to Benidorm for her holiday! What's wrong with Blackpool I'd like to know? Neighbour says lots of people are taking holidays in Spain now but I don't think it will ever catch on.

Smokedcloud · 19/10/2024 21:48

Has anyone ordered of these new foreign 'Duvet' covers for their bed from Kays Catalogue?

AtlasPine · 19/10/2024 21:48

My dc have been laughing at my beehive. Time for a change I think. Any suggestions?
