Following on from the 1950s thread which has been the most lovely read as that was the decade my parents grew up im wondering if we could have a 1970s one? This is the decade my parents met and got married and I would love a insight to the way people were thinking.

For me we're going on holiday to the seaside AIBU to let the children ride in the foot well of the car?

@Sporadica does Margaret Thatcher know for sure for what a woman is? A woman is surely something that belongs in the kitchen.

Nylon sheets

Carmen rollers

Braun blowdriers and heated brushes for that Farah Fawcett flick

cheesecloth halter tops

avocado bath suites

avocado pears washed down with Blue Nun

Maybe I could put all this into a (very bad) poem.

We've put a brick in the toilet cistern to save water. Do we still need to go with the no more than six inches deep in a bath?

Oo lah-di-dah You are lucky to get more than six inches in the bath in the first place! You"ll be telling me you get more than two baths a week next!

Why is marital rape still legal in the UK?

School is shut because of the coal strikes, can I take my child to work with me?

Is 4 years old too young for my child to have a latchkey?

My 12 year old wants to watch Dynasty and Dallas but I think it'll be corrupting, AIBU?

7 is definitely fine. Can your 4 year old walk home with a friend or wait with the lollipop lady until you collect them? (Isn't 4 a bit early to go to school? They start the term after they are five here, some of them go straight into middle infants if they are born after Easter)

My 10 year old DD wants to see 'Grease' at the cinema. It's only an 'A' rating but I've heard it's a bit raunchy, should I let her go?

Haven't you seen Grease?

Look at the bottom of the frying pan!

My kid has mumps really badly. The Dr is coming every day and recommended kids aspirin and my mum is here to help lift her so she can wee in a bucket. AIBU to think someone should invent a vaccine for this as well as this new measles vaccine.

Should I try this new fangled Pencil Automatic washing powder in my twin tub? (washes whiter and is new, new, new)

Sindy doll or Pippa doll for Christmas?

twomanyfrogsinabox · 22/10/2024 08:13

Strikes, power cuts, fuel shortages and queues to get petrol, three day week, inflation and spiralling mortgage costs.

My 7 year old was belted at school, I gave him another slap just to let him know that pinching Tracey under the table isn't on. Would you ground him too? Not sure if he's learnt his lesson

Went to see Mott the Hoople at the Town Hall last night. Not bad. Their support act - an interesting band called Queen - looked like they might have a bit of a future too. And pretty good value for 90p - though I had to wait on the phone for nearly 10 minutes before I could get a ticket!

I was definitely in middle Primary school when those jokes were about...

We've just replaced our Hillman Imp with a Ford Escort and the new car has got safety belts. DH says all cars have to be sold with safety belts now. I tried mine on and I was horrified. I'm only 5ft tall and the strap that's supposed to go across my body would decapitate me if the car stopped suddenly. And what about if I was pregnant, with the other strap going right across my poor baby and squashing it! I'm going to write to That's Life so that other people can be warned how dangerous these things can be.

Was this a private or a grammar school ? No one would have turned a hair at this in my school !

State C of E primary school. I was the kid in this scenario, circa 1970/71.

WIBU to complain to DC's school? The hockey teacher's dog bit them during PE, and another PE teacher laughed at them and said they would need to take the dog to get a tetanus injection.
(This actually happened - luckily not to me. 😮)
