I’m really ill - when do I start to worry?

I’m sorry for the TMI but it’s 3:30am and entering day 5 of illness, so safe to say I’m completely and utter drained.

On Monday morning I had diarrhea (very bad) and it has yet to ease off. I am nauseous all day (and night) and for the first 2 days would be covered in goosebumps the minute I got up off the sofa.

I haven’t eaten since Sunday (apart from the odd slice of toast) but I have been drinking lots of water.

I lost count how many times I went to the toilet yesterday and I’ve just been again and it’s all the water that I’ve been drinking is just coming straight out.

I’m on the verge of throwing up and despite drinking I’m becoming increasingly dehydrated. I really do feel awful.

Tummy is all over the place and won’t stop growling at me. I did have intense tummy cramping at one point earlier in the week but luckily that hasn’t returned.

I came back from the toilet quite literally 3-4 minutes ago but need to go again now.

Just not sure whether it will pass (looking bloody unlikely to be any time soon though) or if I need to get something, I don’t actually know what though, from the Doctor.

Feeling very weak and starting to get some mild chest pains from it all now.

@Teateaandmoretea Yes I agree - this is exactly me. Luckily the gripping stomach cramping has subsided but my goodness it was bad.

Has anyone else in your house had it OP? Noro/sickness bugs spread like wildfire, so if nobody else has had it, its more likely to be food poisoning.

Have you travelled anywhere recently? Could it be a parasite?

Hope you start perking up soon, it really is grim when you feel like that 💐

This sounds more like food poisoning. I was like this when I has salmonella 😬, by the time I got it conformed (from a sample) I was on the mend but it knocked me for six and took me a while to fully recover.

I was very similar OP for 2 weeks. This is my first week feeling better. Going hot and called, upset stomach and nausea every morning. Due to my job I had to test for covid19, it was positive. The XEC strain is going round.

Probably worth testing for covid OP.

It will be the reason for many more illnesses & symptoms than people realise because hardly anyone is testing now. There are differing symptoms and gastro is involved for some.

I had this once. I was so ill I passed out and cracked my head as I went down. My husband called an ambulance. I genuinely thought I was dying. The hospital gave me some tablets which slowed the vomiting down. I hope you are fully better soon.

Glad to hear you are managing to keep some fluids down! Hopefully you have turned a corner and will be on the mend soon. Rest up and take care of yourself lovely 💐

Yes call 111. Don't take anything over the counter to stop diarrhoea without medical advice. Depending on what's causing it, it might be better out than in!

That's not how diarrhoea works - it doesn't "flush out" the germs.
If you have diarrhoea, you want to stop it before you have extreme dehydration.

Op, hope you're doing ok now 🩷

Eckno · 19/10/2024 23:33

Coconut water with a little extra salt is a great way to replenish your electrolytes.

I hope you feel better soon. I once had extreme sickness and diarrhoea for two weeks and it turned out it be cryptosporidium. I’ve never felt so ill in my life.

Platypuslover · 20/10/2024 02:08

They should have really tested for samonella as that is exactly what it’s like. Make sure you disinfect everything and everywhere.

Kimmybot · 20/10/2024 07:59

Sounds like you may have food poisoning, I would definitely seek medical advice. My mum always gave us flat lemonade and rich tea biscuits to nibble on when we were sick as children and it still works for me now. It's sometimes the only thing I can keep down when ill.

You can actually catch salmonella from someone in your house, vis germs left on toilet etc.
