I’m really ill - when do I start to worry?

Spuck · 18/10/2024 03:48

I’m sorry for the TMI but it’s 3:30am and entering day 5 of illness, so safe to say I’m completely and utter drained.

On Monday morning I had diarrhea (very bad) and it has yet to ease off. I am nauseous all day (and night) and for the first 2 days would be covered in goosebumps the minute I got up off the sofa.

I haven’t eaten since Sunday (apart from the odd slice of toast) but I have been drinking lots of water.

I lost count how many times I went to the toilet yesterday and I’ve just been again and it’s all the water that I’ve been drinking is just coming straight out.

I’m on the verge of throwing up and despite drinking I’m becoming increasingly dehydrated. I really do feel awful.

Tummy is all over the place and won’t stop growling at me. I did have intense tummy cramping at one point earlier in the week but luckily that hasn’t returned.

I came back from the toilet quite literally 3-4 minutes ago but need to go again now.

Just not sure whether it will pass (looking bloody unlikely to be any time soon though) or if I need to get something, I don’t actually know what though, from the Doctor.

Feeling very weak and starting to get some mild chest pains from it all now.

Have you had rehydration sachets/ electrolyte sports drink or just water ?

NigelHarmansNewWife · 18/10/2024 07:33

I hope they are able to see you swiftly and help OP. Good luck.

hopeishere · 18/10/2024 07:36

Hope you feel better soon, we had a similar experience and turns out it was an infection from appendicitis!

Choochoo21 · 18/10/2024 07:52

I’m glad you’re on the way to A&E. I hope you feel better soon 💐

In future, if you can’t manage solid foods then eat things like soup and drink milky, sugary teas etc.
Water alone won’t help because although it’s fluids, you need to also have things like salts and nutrients to keep your body going.

I always try and force myself to eat things like toast too, which it seems like you did.
As I find having V&D actually feels worse on an empty stomach.

TenWeeCaramelJoeys · 18/10/2024 07:54

That sounds awful OP. Glad you're going to A&E. It'll be a challenge to sit in A&E with that awful shivering, sick all over feeling. Hope they don't keep you waiting too longFlowers

TheHorneSection · 18/10/2024 08:01

I’m sorry you’re feeling so terrrible and hope you get seen soon

BoundaryGirl3939 · 18/10/2024 08:04

Get some natural salt into you (sea salt, himalaya). You sound dehydrated and low on sodium. Salt can make a huge, huge difference and replenishes the cells. It helped me when I had the worst tummy bug of my life last year.

Ineffable23 · 18/10/2024 08:07

All the best OP, I'm glad to hear you're off to get some in person care. It sounds really nasty.

LushLemonTart · 18/10/2024 08:10

Sounds horrendous am so glad you're in hospital.

merrymelodies · 18/10/2024 08:13

Feel better soon, OP! Flowers

SplendidPendips · 18/10/2024 08:22

Hope you feel better soon. Will be interested to hear how A&E are with you. I was on a thread a few weeks ago where people went to A&E with similar issues and were just told to see their GP instead (and then GP tells them to go to A&E, and repeat). Hoping they are helpful in your area.

YouShouldBeDancingYeah · 18/10/2024 08:23

Hope you feel better soon OP. I had similar back in May and needed rehydrating and antibiotics in hospital, I had campylobacter.

letmego24 · 18/10/2024 08:27

Can you call your Gp? You need a blood pressure check etc and a stool sample to go off. Possibly bloods. Is it bloody diarrhoea as that is usually bacterial- Camplyobacter, E. coli, Salmonella, Shigella and if excessive diarrhoea or unwell you may need to be admitted. You can get colitis from infective diarrhoea

letmego24 · 18/10/2024 08:28

Sorry I didn't read on - apologies. As I said may need to be admitted.

crystalize · 18/10/2024 08:29

Good luck OP, hope you get seen to quickly.
Always handy to have seasalt to put in the water for rehydration.

hlc123 · 18/10/2024 08:46

Hope you feel better soon. I have had similar symptoms the last few weeks and on Monday was diagnosed with Cryptosporidium.

justasking111 · 18/10/2024 08:53

I had this last year after a meal in a restaurant was so ill. After three weeks of not being right, phoned GP who gave me medication. Lost a lot of weight, the only plus.

Glad you're at the hospital.

Teateaandmoretea · 18/10/2024 06:20

You definitely need medical advice. I think the assumption is always these things are just d&v but your symptoms sound just like when 25 years ago I had salmonella (which is treated with antibiotics as it’s bacterial). No sickness but the worst diarrhea of my whole life by about 10 times. It was the illest by far I’ve ever been.

My partner had what seemed like a very bad virus a few years ago - he didn't have sickness and diarreah but a really painful stomach and head and he was also getting worse and worse, and even though he was drinking was getting dehydrated, I convinced him to go to A&E and he was kept in for 3 days on fluid and antibiotics and it was food poisioning, I think you should probably get checked out at this stage OP.

hotcrossbun5 · 18/10/2024 09:01

I had this 5 years go. Doc thought it must he vital gastroenteritis, and it should pass in 2 days. I was sick for 2 WEEKS and it was bacterial. My stomach wasnt right for a year. serves me right for eating fish fingers that werent cooked well enough

ifonly4 · 18/10/2024 09:12

Glad you've managed to get some support and hope you feel better soon.

I've had something similar to you OP. GP put it down to gastroenteritis and it was in the days where they told you they couldn't do anything and sent you hope.

I was literally sicking up and passing water. It lasted two weeks and sorted itself out on it's own. What I'm saying as whilst I know it's awful now, you will feel better soon especially as you've managed to get some help.

JustForTheTasteOfItDC · 18/10/2024 09:24

Hope you are feeling better soon OP

ImTheMidsomerMurderer · 18/10/2024 09:30

@Spuck I hope you got well-taken care of at the hospital and will be feeling better soon. D&V are symptoms I've hated the most when ill.
