Please could someone recommend some hardwearing non stick pans?

I was looking at the Ninja Zero Stick range, but the lady I was speaking to in Lakelanf said that you're just paying for the name with Ninja.

We seem to get through saucepans very quickly, and have done spectacularly well this time, and totally trashed a set of pans in under 5 years. Non stick is all chipped, and the rims of the pans are really pitted - it's as if the lids are made of a harder metal than the pans. They were Green Pan.

Previously we'd had a set of Ciculon non stick pans for about 8 years.

Prior to that, a set of Prestige pans for 15 years - not non stick, but eventually all the handles fell off. We did put them in the dishwasher, but haven't with the more recent pans.

We do cook from scratch most nights; often a veggie meal and a meaty meal, so we are pretty hard on our pans.

The non stick bit of pan is a coating which will eventually always peel.

I have Ikeas stainless steel pots. They are 15 years old now, go in the dishwasher and are not expensive.

In 1988 I bought a milk saucepan at QD, it has a wooden handle and is still going strong. It’s been a back up pan for quite a few decades though. In the 90s I bought a good set of stainless steel pans by Prestige. Only the largest of these has had to be replaced as the plastic lid knob cracked about 2 years ago. Its replacement is good, but I’m not keen on glass lids. John Lewis own brand.

Non stick pans will always wear out. Like so many on here we've got Stellar pans. They're the best you can buy and still look like new after years of use.

Le Creuset Stainless , got them in a New Year sale a few years ago - used everyday and cleaned in dishwasher and they are still immaculate plus lifetime guarantee

CMOTDibbler · 18/10/2024 09:39

Stellar. Like a PP I replaced my 25-30 year old Stellar this year as we got an induction hob and they were pretty much immaculate still. I have a non stick milk pan, and Tefal non stick frying pan but everything else is just metal . All mine go in the dishwasher

We have tefal pans, I can't remember the exact name of the range but they are the ones where the handles are detachable so way easier to keep tidy in the cupboard.
Have have them a few years now and happy with the quality, they also go in the oven which is great.

Tefal Ingenio. I have them too and am very happy with them.

I have a set of prestige from marks and Spencer which were a wedding gift in 1989 that are still perfect.

Daschund · 18/10/2024 09:58

I have a tiny kitchen (seperate utility and dining rooms). I like to entertain and have a range cooker so often use more than a set. I have one set of on display, le Crueset, and whilst very heavy, they are great pans, will last forever and look great.
Day to day, I use a set that cost about £40 in Asda. They're brilliant for the price and probably better for not sticking than the expensive set hanging there looking pretty.

Footle · 19/10/2024 08:47

I'm so old that I can't spell aisle any more. Whatever next?

deeahgwitch · 19/10/2024 09:06

If I was starting again I'd buy a set of Tefal Ingenio stainless steel saucepans and a set of their non stick ones too.
They are so handy for storage.

JMSA · 19/10/2024 09:11

Thanks for the Scoville recommendation/link. I've just bought the set. I had been intending to replace my Circulon ones anyway, as the non-stick coating has come away (despite handwashing).

TossedSaladandSE · 19/10/2024 09:19

My Tefal non stick frying pans have lasted ages but I never put them in the dishwasher

I bought them to use instead of my cast iron frying pan where eggs kept sticking, drove me nuts

My enamel coated le Creuset pans have lasted years

I did buy some Scoville non stick frying pans because I wanted a couple of different sizes

Non stick items don't last at all if you put them in the dishwasher but everyone knows that by now

Daftasabroom · 19/10/2024 09:21

Yep. We have a set of stainless pans that are the same today as they were 25 years ago.

Itsagrandoldteam · 17/10/2024 21:15

These

They are on offer at the moment, they really are excellent pans.

Thanks for that. Just ordered a set. I have the baking trays and a large frying pan. Our old ones needed replacing!

jackstini · 19/10/2024 09:37

Scoville never stick here too - brilliant re non-stick and great value

I would love Hexclad - but can't justify the cost!

LadyOfACertainAge · 19/10/2024 09:42

When my DH turned 21 his rich aunty gave him £250 and he bought a set of viners saucepans/frying pan/steamer. He’ll be 44 in January. It’s crazy how decent they are. They are not non-stick but clean so well. We then have a small non stick one for the odd occasion we fry eggs or cook pancakes. But there one do get replaced often.

Wow, never heard of Hexclad but they look amazing! Ive always shied away from non stick coatings but I could be tempted to try a sauté pan.

willowpatternchina · 19/10/2024 10:08

Stellar stainless steel. I've had mine for 10 years and my mother has had hers for almost 30. All good as new. No need for non stick, just soak in cold water for half an hour before they go in the dishwasher. The only thing that requires a minor bit of scrubbing with a silver scourer is scrambled eggs and it's not at all difficult to get off - 2 minute job. They're not even very expensive - absolute bargain for the quality. I got mine from Harts of Stur online.

kitchenhelprequired · 19/10/2024 11:07

Stella stainless steel bought 30 years ago. Absolutely nothing wrong with them except they don't work on an induction hob so will have to go. Regularly buy a cheap Ikea non stick frying pan but that's the only non stick I would buy.

HopeSpringsInfernal · 19/10/2024 11:11

I've got le creuset cast iron pans. They're 40+ years old, still going strong & nothing sticks to them BUT they weigh a ton, I can hardly lift the largest one now even before it has stuff in, they don't go in the dishwasher & if you drop them they break

TenWeeCaramelJoeys · 19/10/2024 11:35

I have had my stainless steel saucepans for over 30 years. My mum donated them to DP when he moved into his first home and they were still there when I moved in with him. They were already about 15 years old when Mum gave them to him. I have had various non stick saucepans come and go over the years, but the stainless steel ones are still going strong. I only threw out the smallest one about a month ago because the handle had finally given up the ghost.

So forget about non stick coatings would be my advice😃

BestIsWest · 19/10/2024 11:42

Stellar pans here too. Had them years. They work on our induction hob.

Shinyandnew1 · 19/10/2024 12:37

We have a stainless steel Stellar saucepan jug which is great on induction hobs. Still looks as good as new.

soupfiend · 19/10/2024 12:39

Stellar steel pans

Not pretty, not fancy, no fancy name

They manange to go in the dishwasher without ending up all skanky like everything seems to come out of it looking like. Heavy bottoms. Nice lids (when they dont get lost)
